Small rooms, clean, prime location

The rooms in this hotel are quite small but I was impressed with how clean they were. The staff was helpful. The breakfast provided substantial options compared to other hotels in the area. I like to do yoga while traveling but the room didn't have any floor space. The hotel has air-conditioning which was a real bonus. There is no room service or hotel restaurant. There's a mini-bar in the room. The hotel is right off Piazza San Marco but can be hard to find. Be prepared to get lost.

Un petit coin tranquille et très placé à Venise...

Très bien situé dans le quartier de San Marco, sur la place San Stefano, à 2 ou 3 arrêts de Vaporetto de la place San Marco… Entre les arrêts San Angelo et Accademia (le plus pratique) de la ligne 1 du Vaporetto.
Nous avons eu la chance de découvrir l’adorable propriétaire, Raphaela, qui a su prendre soin de nous dès notre arrivée. Un accueil chaleureux, humain et nous a donnée de bons conseils pendant tout le séjour.
Ces vacances étaient tranquilles. Ce n’est pas un palace, il n’y a pas de balcon romantique ni de terrasse avec vue sur le Rialto… mais il y a tout ce qu’on peut attendre d’un hôtel à Venise avec un rapport qualité prix à nul autre pareil.
J’ai cru comprendre que nous avions eu l’une des plus belles chambres (la « Morosini ») qui donne sur la place (et non... non la chambre Morosini n’est pas morose, Morosini est le nom d’un Doge de Venise).
Le petit déj, simple mais bon. Le café était parfait. Pour les amateurs de salé (dont je fais partie), il y a au rez-de-chaussée, sur la rue, une sandwicherie avec une collection de délicieuses petites merveilles qui valent la peine de descendre compléter son petit déj. !
Je vous le recommande sans réserve !

Accueil très sympathique. Chambre 5 pers idéale pour famille, spacieuse, avec terrasse, 2 salles d'eau. Petits déjeuners très copieux. Décoration intérieure de l'hotel chaleureuse. Situation parfaite au centre de Venise (10 minutes à pied de la placce San Marco), tout en étant au calme.

Convenient to St. Mark's Square, quiet hotel. Room was small but adequate. Very clean, and bathroom had a good shower. Breakfast buffet is included, but the layout of the dining room leads to chaos when it's busy, and it was busy every day. Hard for the staff to keep items stocked, hard to gather what you want.
Suggestion: check the flyers of tours and special activities that you can sign up and pay for through the hotel; we did a fun wine tasting evening and a good behind-the-scenes walking tour this way.

Nous sommes venus entre Noel et jour de l'an 2011 dans cet hotel avec nos 3 enfants, très contents de notre choix.
l'emplacement est vraiment exceptionnel, à 1 mn à pieds de la place st marc.
L'hotel est un peu désuet, mais c'est aussi ça venise !
seul point pas terrible, le petit dejeuner assez simple, mais on n'est pas venus pour ça.
La déco des chambres est un peu vieillotte mais tout est en excellent état et parfaitment propre.
Conclusion : je le recommande vraiment.

Beautiful 5 start hotel on the Grand Canal in Venice Italy. Excellent location and staff. The only downside is the cost at the hotel bar (to be expected) was high but considering the outside seating over the Grand Canal, it was worth it. We had a newly decorated room that was very nice.

This hotel is located so central that it does not get any better. Highlights are all in walking distance. The hotel room was small but offered everything we needed. The breakfast was more than sufficient. The Staff was formal.

Everything next to Rialto bridge is overpriced but it was really nice being right on the grand canal. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants right there because we heard that the food wasn't good and the Italians were actually embarrassed by it-- and way overpriced. We wandered our way into Venice just a couple streets back to get excellent food. Staff was very helpful, you could purchase internet time. Good breakfast buffet and a couple outdoor tables. Very comfortable room with safe, mini bar, window looking right out on Grand Canal and boat stop. There are no alarm clocks or clocks in ANY hotel room in Italy, they don't cut the pizza, all of the beds are actually two twin beds pressed together (crack in the middle), and you shouldn't bring anything you can't pick up and carry in Venice since it's not handicap accessible. We brought a hiking backpack which was invaluable and whenever we saw people lugging their suitcases up and down the many stairs throughout Venice, we were so relieved that everything we needed was on our backs! I highly recommend the Rick Steve's ITALY book. Rialto Hotel was in a perfect homebase location, buzzing with activity.

Ein kleines, feines, versteckt und doch zentral gelegenes Hotel.
Der Weg von der nächstgelegenen Bootsanlegestelle für öffentliche Busboote (Giglio) ist nicht recht weit entfernt. Sollte man sich ein Taxiboot bei der An- bzw. Abreise leisten, sind es gar nur ein paar Meter bis zum Hoteleingang.
Für venezianische Verhältnisse sehr geräumige Zimmer mit schönem Tageslicht-Bad. Absolut nicht schmuddelig oder abgewohnt, alles top und sauber!
Sehr freundliches Personal an der Rezeption, die Frühstückscrew etwas mürrisch, aber trotzdem ok.
Das Frühstücksbuffet ist erstaunlich reichaltig bestückt. Wir werden beim nächsten Besuch sicher wieder dieses Hotel wählen und können es nur wärmstens weiterempfehlen.

j'ai séjourné 2 nuits les 7 et 8 janvier 2012 dans une chambre double supérieure. les 15 m² ne m'ont absolument pas gênés. La chambre était vraiment très agréable. Je suis d'accord sur le fait qu'une chambre "vue sur canal" ne doit pas apporter grand chose de plus. Mais cela doit dépendre peut-être de l'étage... . L'hôtel est particulièrement raffinée et bien placé, à proximité immédiate de la place Saint Marc. Les salons du rdc donnent directement sur un canal, et on peut contempler le passage des gondoles. Vraiment magique ! C'est un plaisir que de se poser là quelques instants après ou avant une journée de visite ! J'ai lu sur le site des commentaires négatifs concernant le petit déjeuner. Cela a dû changer, car pour ma part il était plus que complet et copieux. Le personnel était chaleureux. Vraiment une chouette adresse.

Très bon accueil, en Français. Chambre très bien chauffée (il faisait très froid à Venise), très propre. Tout fonctionne (téléphone, télévision, etc..).
Petit déjeuner très copieux (omelette, jambon cru et cuit, saucisses chaudes, fromages, viennoiseries, beurre, confiture, etc....
Après ce déjeuner vers 10 heures pas possible de manger à midi...
Bref à recommander sans hésitation.

The hotel layout was initially confusing but once you learned it, it was easy. The staff was freindly. The room was exceptional for Europe at that price range. Beautifully decorated, spacious, and clean. The only thing we did not like was that the bed was VERY firm and not comfortable if you are used to sleeping on a soft mattress. The location was excellent, only steps away from St Marks Square. Overall we give the hotel a 4 out of 5. Breakfast WAS NOT INCLUDED.

This hotel is 1-2 minutes from St. Marks Square, yet in a fairly quiet side street. From our windows we could see the gondula station. The breakfast buffet in a cozy breakfast room was great with freshly brewed coffee upon sitting down at the table.
We liked the small size of the hotel, made the stay feel very intimate. Cleanliness was excellent. All in all, a great place to stay!

Hotel à 2 pas de la place Saint-Marc et accessible en bateau taxi. Nous avions une très belle chambre spacieuse (ce qui est rare à Venise). Le personnel est compétent et agréable. Hélas pas de wi-fi dans notre chambre nous avons du aller au Dona-Palace? Il manque simplement un coin détente. Très bon rapport qualité-prix, à recommander

Bon accueil et à l'écoute de nos besoins.
Chambre confort (lit 160) avec SDB pas luxueuse mais propre.
Bon adresse dans l'ensemble où nous retournerons sans hésiter compte tenu du rapport qualité/prix.
Le resto associé à l'hôtel : il y a un ambiance chaleureues mais la cuisine ne vaut pas celle que vous feriez vous même...

We arrived by train at night and the hotel was a bit hard for us to find as there were no water taxis less than 50 Euro and the shops were all closing up making it difficult to find people to ask for directions. (Beware if you ask directions—everyone will say, "Just go straight. Be sure to just keep going straight!"—you will soon find there are very few "straight" passages in Venice!).
However, once we finally found our way to the hotel we were warmly greeted and shown to a lovely, nicely appointed, very clean room.
Breakfast, included with the price of the room, the next morning was wonderful with many choices both hot and cold. And, again, the staff present was incredibly gracious and fun to visit with.
The only thing we noted was an odor in the main staircase hall, both the evening we checked in and in the morning. Otherwise, we found the hotel to be clean and very comfortable.

We spent 2 nights at this cute little hotel, which is very well situated - about a 10 minute walk from San Marcos in one direction and the Rialto Bridge in the other. The hotel was very clean and the staff was extremely nice. The room we had was a triple, and we were very comfortable, but I must admit that the room was pretty small with the third bed in it. (But who spends much time in the room when they can be out exploring Venice?) Breakfast was very good - bread, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, fruit, etc. but no hot food. We loved it!

The staff was gracious and welcoming and very efficient. Our room was lovely, spacious and quiet. Our room overlooked the canal which was charming and the breakfast was delicious with great service. Every detail was handled efficiently. I would definitely stay at the Becher again.

Great location (once we found it!). Very comfortable room for two people, large bathroom, 24 hour friendly and helpful reception particularly valued after a tiny bit of snow delayed italian trains... Excellent reduced rates for last minute booking. Small crowded breakfast room but great food and coffee; fresh fruit salad was fabulous.

Hôtel très bien situé, accueil très sympathique, belle chambre, nous avons passé un excellent séjour à Venise, le petit déjeuner copieux . Bref, rien à dire tout était parfait, le plus un très bon restaurant à côté le VINNO VINNO , je vous le conseille il est excellent!!!! Si je devais revenir à Venise,sans hésitation, je choisirai cet hôtel.

Nous avons été très bien accueillis à l'hôtel. Le personnel est très agréable et disponible. Lhôtel est idéalement situé; à deux pas de la place San Marco près du Campo della Guerra.
La chambre était confortable bien qu' assez petite. Un bémol cependant, elle donnait sur une cour intérieure où les fumeurs se retrouvaient et nous ne pouvions donc pas ouvrir les fenêtres à cause des odeurs!!!
Le petit déjeuner qui est inclus est assez copieux.
Bon séjour à tous!!!!

The hotel is beautiful, nicely appointed, and in a great location (just down a narrow alley from the San Giglio water bus stop). The breakfasts are wonderful and quite ample, and the staff are all lovely and most helpful. Our only complaint was that our room, located just off the central staircase, was quite noisy as a result of the considerable morning guest and housekeeper traffic. We would definitely recommend requesting a room further away from this busy area.

We stayed in the top room (room 53 in the hotel) a triple. Our daughter (age 5) had her own little room (about the size of a long wide closet) that was one of her favorite rooms during our Europe trip(except for an upstairs loft in Beyeux France). The room had a view of the church across the square. the bathroom was kind of different,(just be careful not to fall off.) The hotel was in a good location, not far from the square. If you stay there, I would recommend taking a water bus to the Giglio stop and getting off there with you luggage. You can just walk down the alley after the stop and the hotel will be to your far right. This way you dont have to drag your luggage up and down over the bridges at the canals. I wouldn't rate this hotel 5 star, but based on location and character I would say 4 star is a good rating. I stayed their in Novemeber, so I dont know how hot it gets in the summer.

Cute little hotel, really close to piazza s marco. You can't expect the same comfort in Europe that you could expect when paying the same in the US, but compared to the other hotels booked during our trip to italy, this one was ok!
If you have to catch an early train, you might want to consider staying closer to the train station...otherwise, staff was great! We had to check out before breakfast time, and they kindly prepared a breakfast box for us.

Nice little hotel in a fantastic location. Room was a bit small but it did not really matter as we were not there that much. Breakfast could be better but we were not left hungry, would go there again.

I was very satisfied with this hotel. The hotel was located in the center of everything we wanted to see. From the hotel it was a short walk to St Mark's Square. A water bus was close by to take us every where else. The hotel was very clean and the staff was very helpful. The best part of the morning was the hotel breakfast.

Description
The Gritti Palace dates back to 1525 when its construction began. At first the official residence of the Gritti family, the palace was later used as the residence of the Vatican ambassadors to Venice. Later still, it was home to successive noble families, as the Pisanis and again the Grittis in 1814, when it was purchased by Camillo Gritti. Over the centuries it has had illustrious guests, as it was the habit for noble palaces.
At the beginning of the twentieth century, the palace was converted into a hotel and annexed to the adjacent Grand Hotel. Following the Second World War, Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi acquired the palace and, after important restoration works, the hotel officially opened on June 5th, 1948 as Hotel Gritti Palace.
It soon became the favourite of intellectuals, artists and royalty. Among the many guests who enjoyed its exceptional hospitality feature Sir Winston Churchill, Graham Greene, Ernest Hemingway, Andre Malraux, Igor and Vera Stravinsky, Luchino Visconti, and Orson Welles.
Ernest Hemingway once described the hotel "as the best hotel in a city of great hotels".
In the words of W. Somerset Maugham, "There are few things in life more pleasant than to sit on the terrace of the Gritti when the sun about to set bathes in lovely colour the Salute, which almost faces you. You see that noble building at its best and the sight adds to your satisfaction. For at the Gritti you are not merely a number as you are in those vast caravanserais that are now being built all over the world; you are a friend who has been welcomed as he stepped out of his motor boat, and when you seat down to dinner at the very same table that you sat at the year before, and the year before that, when you see that your bottle of Soave is in the ice-pail, waiting for you, as it has been year after year, you cannot but feel very much at home".
