Comfortable but distance to the centre is a drawback
-
GoingJapanese
- Nov 15, 2011
This hotel doesn't look quite so smart "in the flesh" as it does on the pictures but everything is clean and comfortable, breakfast is excellent with a big choice and the staff are friendly and generally helpful. The big disadvantage is the location, which is quite pleasant and quiet but the additional long walk is very unwelcome after what is typically a very tiring day in a crowded city. Worth getting an ACTV pass just for the "commute" as the Sant'Elena stop is very close by.

Posizione e prezzo ottimi. Molto disponibile il personale dell'albergo.
Ritornerei senza alcun dubbio.

The hotel is situated at the valperato stop so is very easy to find about 30 mtrs up the alley. Our room overlooked the square and was nicely decorated with comfy beds. We visited in Nov and the hotel was warm. Breakfast is taken in the sister hotel near the water which suited us. Staff are happy and very helpful. If you turn left and left again when leaving the hotel, you pass shops and restaurants and get to St Marks square entering at the side of the Bailica, which you must make time to visit. I will be going back to this hotel.

For a reasonably priced hotel, this place was spectacular. The room we had was quite large by European hotel standards, very pretty, and quite comfortable. The location is superb, right near St. Marks and directly across from the San Zaccaria vaporetto (water bus) stop. The view from our room was spectacular, looking directly at the church of San Zaccaria and the small square in front of it. The concierge, Tomas, was helpful beyond words, and the rest of the staff were all excellent. We'd stay there again any time we are in Venice.

Good start to Venice strolling

We enjoyed the stay over there very much. The location is perfect for sightseeing, especially Basilica di San Marco, its Campanile and Palazzo Ducale. You can use San Zaccaria or San Marco to access from airport by ship transport. The hotel staff are very friendly but they do not forget politeness. Room is relatively small but the average size of Venice in this price range. Cosyness and cleanness of the room will make you relax. The breakfast is no-distictive continental but good for early morning start. I strongly recommend this hotel for the ones who wants to stroll around Venice as short-term tourists.

A little difficult to find, but that is bout true for most hotels in Venice. Once you unpack, you are only 2 blocks away from St. Mark's Square and many other attractions. Excellent breakfast (included in your hotel fee). Friendly and helpful staff. Most of them speak several languages, including English. You can also have a water taxi take you from the hotel door to the rail station or marco Polo airport (100 Euros to the airport, but worth it if you travel with small children, old people or in a group).

Good value and centrally located

We were in Venice to take photographs but it rained five days out of seven. However, our room (in a separate building, round the corner from the main hotel) was very spacious (more like a suite). It had its own safe and fridge with mini-bar. The breakfast buffet offered a wide choice of tasty fresh food. The staff were all very helpful and efficient. The hotel is very centrally located but in a quiet location, apart from the passing gondoliers (but then you are in Venice). The only facility missing in the room was a means of making tea or coffee (take your own). The bathroom was fitted with excellent contemporary facilities. We would choose this hotel again.

The hotel is lovely, the position also. The rooms are very nice, the bathrooms also. The staff is not very friendly. They tried to give us a single room instead of a double room and also for breakfast they wanted us to eat in seperate tables, quite upsetting.

The room was small but very functional - plenty of room for our baby to crawl around once we unpacked. The staff is fantastic - the rooms are very clean. This was a great place to stay with a baby (they don't have a working elevator yet, but you can store a stroller downstairs). The location is really ideal - five minute walk to San Marco square, and just slightly off the tourist route so there isn't madness outside your window. The breakfast is pretty bare bones - yogurt, cereal, butter, bread, etc., but with great coffee - and there is so much food in Venice, who wants to fill uyp on breakfast anyway? Highly recommended..

Description
The great fascination of the Metropole is the result of many factors: unique atmosphere, halls enriched with period furniture, an impressive antiques collection in the Gallery, and uniquely elegant rooms and suites, all full of personality and generously equipped with original furniture, including antique bed canopies and rare Art Deco pieces. Rooms are pervaded by a mysterious and somewhat oriental allure, with burning incense spreading a delicate fragrance. Service is prompt and elegant. The picture is completed by a splendid Citrus Garden with exotic palms and a sixteenth century well, the perfect backdrop for your evening meal. AN ATMOSPHERE that is suggestive and seductive, is created by means of a profusion of perfumed candles and subtle incenses. PRECIOUS FABRICS of different periods and of great beauty decorate the hotel's salons and every bedroom, contributing the Metropole's unique style..
The hotel also offers Dry cleaning, Lobby, Reception and Smoke-free hotel.

This hotel is fabulous. However, make sure you don't get the cheapest room like we did. You will end up on the first floor, next to the concierge desk, literally. Also, it's a handicapped room....the shower is a sit-down...and it pretty much flooded the bathroom every time we used it.
The hotel itself was amazing though. Great breakfast, staff and bar.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone seeking to be off the beaten path, but near enough to EVERYTHING to get the best of both worlds.

My husband and me decided to begin our honeymoon in Venice and it was the best first impression ever. The hotel was convinintly located in an area that is closed to almost all the most importants sites to visit; breakfast was included and there was lots of variety for all kind of taste including champagne! The personnel was very helpful giving us all type of hints of places to visit and answering all our questions! For the gondola ride the personnel on the check in area found someone who picked us up on the area designated for boats on the hotel. The room was huge and very clean, mixing modern and. Antique look! The Rialto water bus station was very close and it was easy to get from there to the Ferrovia station to catch our train to Verona and Florence! Just the best experience!

I am giving Palazzo Schiavoni 3 stars since we never got a room there! Even though we prebooked[...] when we had made our way from Allilaguna to the hotel (quite a challenge, although the hotel way description was decent), a friendly guy at the reception told us that we would actually be staying in another hotel by the same owner. Well, the other hotel was closer to San Marco, but not what we had booked (and the hotel had some issues), and were we mad to grab all our things and walk through town again! We got some inconsistent explanations about the move (no beds free, water issues), and even worse explanations about why we weren't contacted before (they didn't have our contact info ... please!).

Just steps from the water bus stops, St Mark's Square and all a tourist would want in a hotel location. The staff is friendly and helps those struggling with Italian. Breakfast is good but does get tiring after a few days- my favorites were the fresh bread and ability to make my own soft-boiled egg. The welcoming fruit basket and espresso were fantastic. Special attention on my birthday was appreciated. Housekeeping not consistant..when good it was fabulous. Other times ho hum (they didn't notice when the TP was down to it's last few sheets). The resturant is small but nice, with a spectacular view. Pricey but worth it. Don't forget to ask for the free water taxi to Murano and the private glass factory tour.

We stayed in Rome, Florence and Venice. This hotel was our favorite. Formerly the home of a famous composer. The rooms were elegant although not large by American standards. The staff was very friendly, courteous, and helpful. Beautiful courtyard garden with a real Rennaisance feel.
Although not cheap, it was the least expencive of the three hotels we stayed at.

Hotel are facing the sea and the maritime lifeblood of Venice. They have dedicated each room to an elegant sailboat, creating rooms like the Officials quarters in the unforgettable sailboats in the novels of Cecil Scott Forester and Patrick O'Brien. They have provided the best comforts and selected the name of the Doge's ceremonial boat for sea weddings, the Bucintoro. This is how Hotel Bucintoro was founded, giving Venice an elegant 4-star hotel inspired by Venice's authentic maritime tradition. And with its location, on the Docks of San Marco, on a magnificent tract of land on the banks between the Aresnale, the Naval History Museum and the Morosini Military Naval School, it could not be otherwise. Those who choose Hotel Bucintoro are selecting a splendidly located, elegant luxury hotel in Venice with all the comforts and services of an international hotel but with the carefully furnished spaces and attention to detail of a small charme hotel, to spend an unforgettable vacation in Venice.

Description
The origins of the palazzo that hosts the Hotel Scandinavia go back deep in time. The building dates from the year 1000 and it is said that this is the very place where Desdemona met Othello, the "Moor of Venice." The palazzo was renovated in the 16th century by the Trevisan family, a wealthy merchant dynasty, that lived in it for generations.
In the Fifties, the Tinacci family transformed the palazzo into the Hotel Scandinavia, managing to preserve the atmosphere of an ancient Venetian residence handed down through the centuries. The is one of the Venetian Hotels that most reflects the spirit of an aristocratic Venetian residence.
The Hotel windows provide a stupendous view: to the building's left is the Church of Santa Maria Formosa, whose name is linked to an ancient legend. It is said that this "Campo" was the site of the apparition of a rather prosperous-looking Madonna and, to celebrate this miracle, a church was built in 1492 that was given the name of Santa Maria Formosa (the Buxom).
The Hotel occupies one of the best locations in Venice: Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge are only a few minutes away on foot; from the nearby vaporetto landings you can reach the train station, Piazzale Rome and all the places of artistic interest.
The hotel offers concierge, internet access-wireless, non smoking rooms, pets allowed, reception and safe deposit box.Breakfast is included.

Venice was the last stop on a trip to France and Italy with my teenage daughters. The room was nicely appointed but a bit tight. Having our own private rooftop terrace made up for lack of space, but we didn't have a view. The staff was very helpful and accommodating, breakfast (included) was adequate but nothing to rave about. The location was questionable - it was almost the last stop on the #1 ferry - close to the park housing the Venice Binnaele but a long walk from the center Venice. A good hotel if you are looking for a quiet time away from the action.

Visite de l'ensemble de la ville sur 2 jours.
Situation parfaite entre les 2 points d'intérêts majeur. Accueil super sympa. Belle chambre, climatisée. A recommander.

smallish room , but you're in Venice. very clean and nice, with a friendly staff who speak english, very good value. It is very centrally located, if you can find your way through Venice's maze of streets. The first thing they do at Da Bruno is give you a map that shows how to get around and get back to the hotel, but street markings are very sketchy. It's in decent walking distance of everything, which is good because there are no options to walking in Venice. I definitely recommend this place
