This hotel was located in a quiet piazza with the San Zaccaria church across from the front door. It was one bridge away from the St. Mark's Piazza. The vaparetto stop was in front of the hotel. The hotel is operated by its sister hotels (Savoia and Jolanda), so you had to check in at their front desk, then a bell hop took you around the corner to the hotel. The rooms were elegantly decorated and the bathroom was very spacious by European standards. The free breakfast was great. Scrambled eggs, prosciutto, cheese, breads, yogurts, coffee, cakes.

Great place to stay

At first we had a bit of a problem finding the hotel, because Venice is kind of like a maze. It really is not far at all from the main street. We thought that the staff was very friendly and answered all of our questions. They kept us up to date on the events that were taking place in the city, which was awesome because we got to see the best fireworks show of we have ever seen! The room was lovely. It was nice that they had free internet. I would stay here again if I ever came back to Venice.

Location can't be beat in Venice. Next door to Doges Palace and the boat stop that goes to anywhere in Venice including the outer islands and the airport. Breakfast was surprisingly good when we only expected a croissant and cappuccino. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful, calling restaurants for reservations and giving directions to find places. We chose the economy double and that means very very small bedroom that barely fits a queen size bed. The bathroom was very large though, so that kind of made up for the small bedroom size. But again, for the price and location, this was a high value hotel.

Description
The Hotel is situated in the heart of the romantic city of Venice, in a very quiet position despite the fact it is just 200 m from the beautiful St. Mark's Square and the famous Rialto Bridge.
It is the ideal starting point to set off through the alleys to discover the wonderful monuments and typical shops which hide all the ancient, fascinating mysteries of Venice.
The hotel takes its name from the famous Venetian artist, Antonio Canal, who was known as Canaletto. Those rooms where the artist used to live (1697-1768) have now become our elegant hotel rooms.
A friendly, elegant, romantic and quiet atmosphere furnished in typical 18th century Venetian style, with stuccowork, damask, hand lacquered and gilded furniture, Murano glass mirrors and lamps.
All rooms are soundproofed and have private bathroom with shower or bath, air conditioning, telephone, minibar, sat TV, hair dryer and safe. There are also our superior rooms with views of the canal or the typical square with the well-curb.
The elegant public rooms (breakfast room, bar, TV room, internet point) are all decorated with stuccowork and the antique smoothed lime finish, and have some lovely reproduction of Canaletto's works on the walls.A tax has been imposed by the city for stays beginning 1 October 2012, and will be collected directly at the property. The location was very central. We walked everwhere. It was less than 10 minute walk to Rialto bridge and about 15 minutes or less to San Marco. Room was nicely decorated and nice size for European standards. It looks recently refurbished. The⦠breakfast was not included in the price but we took advantage of the service. The breakfast was an average buffet style with cereal, boiled eggs, assorted cold meats, breads, fruits, juice and coffee. The breakfast was self-serve with no attendants. The desk was manned around the clock. The staff was helpful. There is no lift and you must attend your own bags although the man at the desk was kind enough to carry my bag upstairs. The Wi-Fi works in the room very well. The first 3 hours are free and I assume you pay for additional. The hotel was difficult to find the first time. However, everything in Venice is difficult to find at first due to the canals, bridges and curving alley ways which are also part of the charm. Would recommend and would stay again.

... it's all good! The trek is not for people who are physically challenged. Do NOT try to navigate Venice without specific instructions and an accurate map - unfortunately, I had neither. Once you get off the water taxi, water bus, or gondola, you must walk with your luggage, carrying everything up and down steps when you cross canals. I got lost several times, but people try to be helpful. Even when I was within 100 feet of the entrance, it was not easy to find. Entry to the hotel is from what I would characterize as an alley. You must locate a plaque on the wall, press the button, and the desk clerk unlocks the door - nothing like the traditional hotel lobby entrance in the U.S. The reception desk is on the first floor, and I saw no elevator - I carried all my luggage up one flight of stairs. Once I arrived, the room was large, very clean, comfortable, and air conditioned; it included a TV, private bathroom, and all the expected amenities. I had breakfast at the hotel, which was a traditional Italian breakfast, nice selection (cereal, fruit, juice, coffee, croissants, cold cuts, cheese, etc.), good quality, and cost 12,00 Euros. The room tax (3,00 Euros per day) must be paid in cash when you checkout.

Very pleased with every aspect. Hotel staff were efficient, friendly and very helpful. Location was great as only 10 mins walk from San Marco and rooms were well equipped and very clean. We booked a few trips before we arrived which was as we had to make the most of a couple of days. Entrance tickets for Doges Palace also included entry into various other museums which proved invaluable to escape the intense heat or rain for an hour or so.

Being my second visit I knew it was a very high standard with a perfect location since a colleague whom lives on the Lido recommended the hotel first time around.
A cheaper and simpler breakfast would have been good, the one offering at 28 Euro is over the top when all you want is Coffee, Cornflakes and a Ham Roll to start the day.Not everyone wants an American style spread.

B+ for the Danieli
-
5 star traveller
- Jul 28, 2012
The Danieli is a beautiful place but the lobby - spectacular as it is - is a little tired. Time to redecorate! Our room was in the recently renovated annex which was excellent, but the service was not up to par for a 5 star property. The concierges were a little lazy and more intent on finishing their personal conversations than assisting guests queuing up at their desk. The rooftop restaurant is fantastic with the best view in Venice. Location is convenient but guests walk out of the deluxe calm of the lobby onto a mob of people, water taxis, vaporetto ticket booths and street vendors which isn't my idea of a 5 star experience. Next time I am going to try the Bauer Il Palazzo.

Good value and centrally located

We were in Venice to take photographs but it rained five days out of seven. However, our room (in a separate building, round the corner from the main hotel) was very spacious (more like a suite). It had its own safe and fridge with mini-bar. The breakfast buffet offered a wide choice of tasty fresh food. The staff were all very helpful and efficient. The hotel is very centrally located but in a quiet location, apart from the passing gondoliers (but then you are in Venice). The only facility missing in the room was a means of making tea or coffee (take your own). The bathroom was fitted with excellent contemporary facilities. We would choose this hotel again.

Description
The interiors, spacious and elegant, have period furnishings and exquisite Murano glass, in an ambiance typical of the great Venetian residences. Guests from all over the world have stayed here, including Franz Kafka. Polichrome marble adorns the walls and floors of the halls and bar where you can sip not only the typical 'Spritz' but specialty cocktails like the Gabrielli, the Bellini or the Rossini. On summer days the courtyard in flower is the ideal place to have breakfast or dine by candlelight. In another courtyard is a beautiful well, probably from the late Byzantine era. On the hotel's terrace, from a comfortable chaise longue, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the lagoon. But the real jewel of the Hotel Gabrielli Sandwirth is its enchanting garden populated by palms, roses, wisteria pergolas, aquatic plants in antique stone basins, all dominated by two majestic cedars of Lebanon. The hotel also provides meeting rooms (max 70 people) and is equipped with a water entrance. The Hotel Gabrielli Sandwirth, a XIV century palazzo, one of the most exclusive hotels in Venice, is run by the Perkhofer family who can boast of 150 years in the hotelkeeping trade.A tax has been imposed by the city for stays beginning 1 October 2012, and will be collected directly at the property. Stayed 2 nights during our 2 weeks train ride from Rome, Venice, Innsbruck, Zurich, Milan and back to Rome. Although located at the furthest end of Venice (from Santa Lucia), but there are merits. U take a short ferry ride (minimal stop) which takes u there via the open sea or, u enjoy the 45 mins slow ride and enjoy all the stops! Decent hotel, nice setting and plenty of nice place nearby for pasta or gelato....

Peaceful Oasis in a sea of tourists
-
Anonymous
- May 28, 2009
Old fashioned elegance is clearly visible in the main rooms and gardens of this historic hotel but it has seen better days (as has much of Venice!) Location is very convenient to 2 "water bus" stops and you can also walk down the wide street(Rio degli Schiavoni) in front to St. Marks in about 10 minutes. Staff is gracious and most have clearly been there a long time. The owners are also very much in evidence at mealtimes.
The church where Vivaldi was baptized is right behind the hotel and is still a parish church. The Scuola Grande of San Rocco, filled with works by local boy Tintoretto, is right down the street. (We noticed flocks of tourists from the cruise boats, with their guide holding some pendant aloft to keep everyone together, walking by the front of the hotel from the vaporetto stop to San Rocco. It was nice not to be part of the mob scene!)
Weekend (Sat. thru Sun. afternoon) was extremely crowded in Venice, even in the Spring. Later on Sunday and the rest of the week it was very serene at least when we were there. The hotel was always peaceful even when there were hords outside.

Great Location!

We stayed 2 nights, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious and breakfast in the morning was a nice touch.
Travelers should be aware that the "hotel" is at more than one location, all close by. We were a little unsure of how to find the address we were given, and once we arrived, we had to backtrack to the actual location where our rooms were. A little inconvenient, but worth the trouble.

This hotel is well located within easy walking distance to Piazza San Marco and the Rialto bridge is just a few blocks away. I booked this hotel because of the on-line reviews I read, the location, and because of the price.
When you arrive at the hotel main entrance door there are two flights of stairs up to the hotel check area. This was not a problem for us, but for someone who has mobility issues it could be a problem. We were checked in quickly and went to our room. It was up another flight of stairs, again it was not a problem for us, but if you have mobility issues it could be a problem. The room we were given was by far the largest of the five hotels we stayed at in Europe. There was a large bedroom with a queen size bed, a second long narrow room with a small kitchen that included a cooktop, sink and refrigerator next to that a table for two or three, a couch, fold away bed, a desk, and a huge bathroom. Everything was neat and orderly but the room was very warm. The windows were open and the two air conditioning units were running but were not blowing cold air. We thought that maybe the room had been closed up for a while and maybe they were just letting in some fresh air. We closed the windows and went out sightseeing. We returned very late and the room was still very hot. We were tired so we just dealt with it.
The next morning we told the person at the desk and he said he would call someone to take a look at it. By the time we returned from sightseeing the air conditioning was working perfectly. We really appreciated how quickly this concern was addressed and it shows they really care about their guests. The continental breakfast consisted of a pot of coffee, blood orange juice, a croissant, a roll, packages of cookies, toasts, honey, jams, and jellies. The croissants were incredibly good and the coffee was excellent. We had breakfast in our room twice which really made us feel spoiled. Everyone we encountered at this inn was very friendly

The room was small but very functional - plenty of room for our baby to crawl around once we unpacked. The staff is fantastic - the rooms are very clean. This was a great place to stay with a baby (they don't have a working elevator yet, but you can store a stroller downstairs). The location is really ideal - five minute walk to San Marco square, and just slightly off the tourist route so there isn't madness outside your window. The breakfast is pretty bare bones - yogurt, cereal, butter, bread, etc., but with great coffee - and there is so much food in Venice, who wants to fill uyp on breakfast anyway? Highly recommended..
