Hotel was unique and old. The only complaint we had was that the room was too warm. No matter
what we did to try to get the air conditioner to work better, it was just not sufficient to do the job properly. The elevator was very small and antiquated. Location the best, room spotless and staff very professional and helpful.

The location is fantastic, just a short walk from the train station. The staff and amenities were nice. The bathroom on the other hand was comically tiny. It had a sink, toilet, bidet, and shower stuffed into a room the size of a closet. But the price was right and we were able to book very close to the date of our stay.

Checked online for prices, decided to call the hotel and compare- this site was cheaper by almost 50%, which was cool.
The hotel itself is located in a very easy place to find, which is perfect for the first time Venice traveller (especially if you are bringing luggage or arriving late).
The staff was very competent, spoke many languages, and had good dining advice. My only complaint would be that the bed was two separate mattresses, and I like to snuggle next to my husband.

Very Good Hotel

- Mar 27, 2011
The hotel location was ideal, as it is away from the hustle of St Marks but near enough to get to all locations.
Our room (which I think was a standard room?)was very well appointed and the service from hotel staff was impecable.
Our only gripe was with Venice as a whole, and that is the feeling of being totaly ripped off. Whoever we spoke to, said they felt the same - yes, you expect as tourists to pay higher prices in such a great city but Venice seems to be doing its best to ensure many will not return.
I know from other reviews that the hotel charges more for drinks, being a 5 star, but 20 Euro for 2 glasses of wine (house) is a bit steep by most standards! (Dread to think what a meal in their highly recommnded restaurant would have cost - didn't risk it after the wine).
You can find eateries that are off the beaten track who charge a bit less but the least amount I paid for a small beer and glass of Coke was 9 euro.
Fabulous place, glad we went but probably not likely to return - would recommend the hotel though.

This was our second trip to Venice in ten years, and first with children. Previously we have stayed in less touristy areas, but thought a grand palazzo on the canal would be fun and special. It was and it wasn't, whereas our stay with Helvetia & Bristol in Florence was wholly special.
First, if you go, be certain to frequent the hotel's second floor. It's like a museum. We were not informed about it until our last day, so it didn't factor into our stay. It is, though, amazing. As I suspect the rooms immediately overlooking the canal are amazing. Our suite, by contrast, had no window of decent size. We did nicely have steps up to the roof top, with sole access to own roof top dining table. That was lovely. Our room itself was rather a drywall rectangle, with harsh white paint and underwhelming fake moulding. Finally, and perhaps most significant to me, the staff lacked any sense of hospitality. In part due, I think, to the set back nature of their desk, and in part, their personal style. We never interacted with them other than most cursorarily upon arrival. This stood in stark contrast to our hotels in Florence and Verona, where people knew our surname and chatted. The immediate neighborhood, too, is high tourist, as opposed to elegant shops. So, we would not likely stay here again, unless we went full stop and booked a room directly canal side (with attendant pricing).

The Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection, housed in the old and prestigious Rizzo-Patarol noble palace, is an excellent location for completely immersing yourself in the enchanting atmosphere of Venice. The hotel's XVII-century façade has a portal and loggia on overlapping levels and is hidden a secret garden, the only one to be found in a hotel in Venice, which is perfectly preserved and faces onto the lagoon. The Boscolo Venezia, Autograph Collection combines contemporary comfort with the ‘period luxury’ of the precious marble, splendid frescoes and Majestic chandeliers. Located in Sestiere Cannaregio, it is close to the center but at arm’s length from the more crowded thoroughfares, and thus shows the true face of Venice and its inhabitants.

"EXTREMELY" small but good for the value!
- odiseouli
- Dec 4, 2012
Originally I booked a different hotel but a day before my trip I received an email stating that the hotel had some flooding problems and they had to refund my money or they could place me on this particular hotel. Well I only paid half of what this hotel actually cost so no complains on my part at that time. My room was extremely small, had barely any room to move around. They do have a table that takes half of the room space. The bathroom is the same way, small. After a day or two in Venice I realize that everything is the city is actually small. Breakfast was great, location was awesome since is right by the metro station. No mayor complaints, hotel is good for the price....

Value for money. Good location. The room was clean. Beaware that if you go there before 2pm you can't check in before that. You should wait till they clean your rooms. They claim on their website that guests can check in anytme after 8.00am. This is not true. You can always leave your bags in the reception and go out. Apart from that the hotel was good, nice and clean. Location was really good for us.

My wife and I enjoyed the Ai Mori D'Oriente Hotel; however, had we not been able to take advantage of the O special rate, we would not have chosen to stay here. The full rate did not seem to warrant the distance to Piazza San Marco and lack of spa services. With that said, we actually enjoyed staying a bit further away from the main tourist area as it was quiet and much less crowded, and the breakfast was really wonderful.

I loved this hotel and the only reason I haven't given 5 stars for overall and amenities is that the wi-fi and the 3G signal were pretty poor and we were forced in to the lobby to get a half decent signal. The location was out of the way but easily reached by reliable regular public transport. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of foods served in a clean welcoming dining area. The bar area was also clean and welcoming. It would have been lovely if this hotel had a restuarant for evening dining. We were in Venice for sightseeing and at the end of a long tiring day, the hotel was such a nice place to come home too. Pay per view TV in the rooms and CNN and BBC world news make for more comfort. I would definitely stay here again.

This is an old style, somewhat fancy hotel but very nice. I have no real complaints. The location is about a 2 minute walk from the train station, a 5 minute walk to the Alilaguna airport boat stop and right on the grand canal - very convenient. Breakfast was nice.

I always knew that Venice will be difficult in a wheelchair. The hotl is not wheelchair firendly as there are 2 steps into the hotel, 2 further down to the lift and then 2 up to the lifts again. The porter was very keen to assist but he was not always available. The biggest problem is the lift. The lift is very small and my wheelchair fitted just through the door. I use a very narrow chair and I had to pull myself through into the lift. I had to change the room as I could not get into th bathroom as the door is to small. The room (No 264) was wheelchair friendly and the bathroom was large.

We stayed two nights in this hotel. It was clean and quiet. It was in a great location to ships, buses and the train station. Can be hard to find due to the street not clearly marked. Hotel desk not staffed at night but had not problem getting our room key. They charge for internet as most all places in Venice do. We could not connect to their site but found a cell phone store just down the street to use the internet. Compared to other hotel prices and location...do not miss this charm!

Hotel was very basic. Room sparse but clean. Breakfast was broing and plain. No fruit supplied or eggs supplied which is normally a staple of Italian breakfasts that we have experienced at other hotels.
Staff were pleasant and helpful. Great location, could not be faulted. A few tweaks but would still recommend for those on a budget because Venice can be very expensive!

We had a great experience staying here. It is quite close to a Vaporetto stop, making it convenient, and a relatively short walk to the Rialto bridge. But it is a bit calmer and quieter than much of Venice, so it's a nice place to come back to in the evenings. It's also close to two supermarkets, making it easy to do a bit of self catering. Breakfast was pretty basic, but worked fine. The room (a family room) was large and very comfortable and the bathroom was very nice. I was overall very impressed and would definitely stay again/

The Hotel Spagna was a great place to stay - economical and comfortable. While not plush, it provided all the necessities. It was very clean and the breakfast included with the room rate was very good. Most importantly, members of the staff, especially the front desk personnel, were absolutely excellent. I have never had better! They arranged tours, gave directions readily (even to friends who were not staying there), arranged transportation (even for friends who were not staying there), etc - and all without charge! I will certainly stay there again when in Venice!
