Description
The Gambrinus Hotel offers its guests a unique environment, outstanding for its use of fine materials and its careful attention to detail. The hall is elegant and refined: the floors are in statuary marble, and the walls are covered with wooden decorations and white lacquered wainscoting and, to illuminate the whole, there is a splendid light fitting in Murano glass. The luminous environment contrasts with the dark wood reception desk, creating an extremely pleasant effect on entering, making guests feel that they are entering a refined and comfortable environment. The other rooms are furnished with the same care, as, for example, the beautiful breakfast room, where you can still admire the original stones of the 1800s in the vaulted ceiling, and the floor in Roman travertine stone contrasts with the dark marble of the bar. In this fascinating room a plentiful and tasty buffet breakfast is served every morning, with a wide choice of fresh and wholesome products, ranging from sweet to savory foods, both hot and cold. The hotel management also offers exclusive, personalized services of high quality. The hotel also offers airport transfer, baby sitting service, concierge, currency exchange, disabled facilities, doctor on call, dry cleaning service, high speed Internet access, wireless Internet access, laundry service, lobby, lift / elevator, non-smoking rooms, restaurant, room service, safe deposit box and tour desk.

Adequate, but not 4 star

  • S
  • Nov 28, 2010
This hotel was rated as a 4 star hotel by another travel website [...] in 2005, according to the sign behind the desk. Our rooms were adequate, but nothing special, and certainly not immaculate. Staff was helpful, especially at breakfast and in figuring out transportation. Breakfast was typical for a Rome hotel - not quite the same as the picture shown on the website, but adequate. Located about a 5 minute walk from bus stops, 12 minutes from train station. This is probably a typical 3 star hotel.

We stayed at the hotel for our first trip to Rome. Not a bad location, with the Roma Pass we were able to take the bus from out front or the Metro (a few blocks away) to all of the historical sites. It is a nicely remodeled older hotel with small quaint rooms, staff is friendly and breakfast was always very good. Windows kept out most all the noise (inner city location) but the A/C was hard pressed to keep up, even on cooler days. Rooms were clean and nicely kept. It is far enough from the historical sites to have nice restaurants and shopping close by and close enough that you can see everything with a short ride on the Metro or bus.

Perfect location, exceptional staff, very comfortable, spacious and well-soundproofed room and bath, the Hotel Majestic was a wonderful place to start and end each day. Thanks to a complete breakfast buffet in a beautiful dining room, we walked out each morning well-fortified for miles of sightseeing. Our concierges gave us good suggestions for restaurants, train/plane connections, and whatever else we needed. This hotel is full of personality and history, and yet still has a modern outlook. The dedicated staff reflects that. We loved this place.

Good location / Confort correct but no good value for money

  • Floribus
  • Jan 13, 2012
The location of the hotel is excellent. I have read many bad posts concerning the style and the atmosphere of the hotel, but, from my perspective, i thinks these negative comments are not deserved: the style is special but modern and trendy. Rooms are originally decorated, modern clean and quite large (for Rome standards). That said, the hotel is no five stars (as they claim): our window had view on the A/C engine of the hotel (extremely noisy), the amenties are of poor quality, the SPA/pool are barely clean. These are no real issues but this is not what you would expect from a five stars hotel, especially for the price they are charging for the room. Last but not least, the service is terrible. Here is the best exemple why: Since parking is impossible in Rome, you will certainly leave your car to the hotel concierge. It will cost you EUR 35. Neverthesless, this is not the worst part: I had to wait more than one hour from the moment I asked for my car until I can drive to the airport! Despite this major issue, the staff did not do anything, they charge me for the parking anyway, they did not apologize and, worst of all, did not give us any explanation. In couclusion, the hotel is fine, well-located, but overpricy for what you get (espcially in terms of service). If you can get a special offer: fine. Otherwise, be prepared to be desappointed

Comfortable hotel in good location

  • Semifreddo
  • Apr 13, 2011
This is a very comfortable hotel in a good location and represents value for money. The room was spacious and clean. It was quite warm so we left the window open all night even though it was early April. The staff were all very helpful and polite. The breakfast was quite adequate and standard for an Italian hotel. The hotel is situated in a small square in a quiet area where there are a number of foreign embassies, but there are also several good restaurants within a short walk. There is a historic buiding with Roman remains in the middle of the square. It is about 10 minutes walk from Termini station and the nearest metro. You can easily walk from the hotel into the centre of Rome or up to the Borghese gardens. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others and would happily stay there again.

This hotel had a nice location with relatively easy access to bus service to metro or within a short walk. Nice area within walking to Spanish Steps and Trevi fountain. Good breakfast selection with a nice view of the city from the top floor. Rooms were average size for European accommodations and relatively comfortable. Hot water flow needed to be adjusted occasionally, but was plenty of hot water. No real amenities at the hotel itself, but felt it was a great value.

We were pleasantly surprised by our stay at Welcome Piram Hotel. I'll start with my dislikes, because there are few, but may help you with your decision. First off, (and I'll take partial responsibility for this one) they need a bigger sign outside......with the people standing on the sidewalk, we walked by the place twice before we actually saw the small plaque by the door. It would have helped to have the street number handy, but my GPS got me close enough. Second, if you are staying at the back of the building near the small alley/street that runs behind, you will get a LOT of noice starting just after 6am. We are early birds so it wasn't an issue, but if you like your sleep, this could be really annoying. Lastly, for some reason, the water took forever to heat up in the morning. The second day, I turned on the shower while I was brushing my teeth and it was just about ready when I finished up. Such a terrible waste of water, but I've long since grown out of "cold" showers!! Now for the good stuff. First of all, it really is close to Termini station. I know a lot of places claim to be and actually are not. It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to walk there......even with luggage in tow. (take the Leonardo express from FCU Airport to Termini Station) It's about 14 euros one way, but is non-stop and takes about 20-25 minutes. Second, it is really close to both A & B Metro lines which makes for quick hops to all the major tourist sites. Third, the hotel was really clean and classy inside. They will hold your luggage for you until check in time, and again when you check out if necessary. The area around the hotel was clean and we felt safe, even at night. The room was clean, the bathrooms were in good working order and not too cramped. The rooms were a good size too......and for Rome, that is not all that common unless you are staying in an American chain hotel.....and still not even a guarantee then. We didn't eat in the area, so I can't comment on nearby restaurants. I will say though, if you go to Rome and do NOT get a gelato from Old Bridge Gelateria, you have missed out. It's near the Vatican......along the wall between St. Peters Square and the Vatican Museum. Huge cones for 2-3 euros, and the flavors are amazing with easily more than a dozen flavors to choose from. Try the Chocolate and/or the Blood Orange. Last trip I had the Fruitti de Bosco, but unfortunately it wasn't available this time. Okay, back to the hotel. Well, to sum it up, we'd definitely stay here again. It's convenient, the price was very competitive. It's rated 3 stars, which is fair, but at the top end of the 3 star range. It's definitely the best bang for the buck in Rome so far!! (p.s.....just realized I only rated the staff a 3.....they are not bad, not overly friendly, but not outright rude either. They just didn't seem to really care either way. Maybe a little too stuffy for a 3 star place)

Séjour touristique. Points positifs: Hôtel propre, bien situé. Personnel parlant français. Coffre fort gratuit. Points négatifs: bruyant le matin du fait de la circulation dans la rue. Climatisation qui semble être gérée par le personnel. Une fois que l'on éteint la climatisation, on ne peut pas la rallumer et il faut demander à l'accueil de la remettre en route.

Quirky Boutique Hotel

Ended up in Rome and extra night when a flight canceled and stayed here because it was cheap and in the area near friends. Staff was friendly. The building is interesting, with a buzzer system and a small elevator going up through the middle of a square flight of stairs. The room was simple, but adequate. The hotel charges an exorbitant amount for their wi-fi, but I was able to find an open network out my window to an interior courtyard. Bathroom was roomy for Italy. Bed was comfortable. Hotel is close to lots of shopping and restaurants. For some reason, they want you to leave the key at the front desk every time you go out.

I have stayed at the Caprice three times, and love it, always finding the showers a unique adventure unto themselves! If you come to Rome to luxuriate in your hotel room, this is not the place for you. For exploring Rome, it is a great location. So many sights are within walking distance, many of them downhill. Late in the afternoon, exhausted, you can take the metro uphill. But do not forget at least one a.m. uphill trip to the wonderful Borghese Museum. The Caprice is just off the Via Veneto and also not that far from Rome's main train station. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful. There is an elevator, but if you are claustrophobic, take the stairs.

The hotel was superbly located 2 stops on the metro from the terminal station and easy to find. The hotel was in easy walking distance of many attractions. I would recommend you do not eat in the restaurants near to the hotel as they had hidden charges for service charges and cover charges for the table. The staff were very helpful and the rooms good for the budget price we paid. Breakfast was dissapointing however.

The hotel was a great location. Very close to the Trevi fountain and the Spanish Steps. The metro is a 2 minute walk and very convenient. However, we walked everywhere while in Rome. The hotel itself was very small, but it had its own personality and seemed to suit us. It was a typical Roman hotel, very small rooms but very clean. Breakfast was offered on the top floor; we sat on the balcony every morning and saw the city. The hotel staff was very helpful and all spoke English. They offered maps and made sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely return on our next visit.

We picked this hotel for it's beauty, warmth and charm. It was a perfect place for our honeymoon. The staff were great and the hotel is gorgeous. Classic romantic style, luxurious and warm. We upgraded from the standard to deluxe and were very pleased. The price increase was definitely worth it as we enjoyed a more spacious room, jacuzzi, and terrace. The complimentary breakfast was also very nice, and the location was great. We will be returning.

We found this hotel/B&B to be very pleasant. The location is great for sight-seeing. It is maybe 1/2 mile from sites like the Trevi Fountains but everything is in walking distance, even with young child. The building also has apartments, so the hotel staff has to buzz you in from the street. Generally they open the door right away but there were a few occasions where we waited a few minutes. No more then five minutes ever. Then when you get to the hotel wing, the staff again has to let you in. We never had to wait more than a minute for that door. There is a very nice, accommodating man who stays in the hotel wing and is there to provide assistance. We stayed in a triple and the room wasn't spacious but had enough room to be comfortable. The bathroom was very nice. The room was very clean. The beds were harder than we like. Although there was an air-conditioner, we couldn't get it to work very well, and it wasn't even summertime. The heater certainly worked. The room was quiet and we were able to sleep well, with the exception of the first afternoon that we arrived. It must have been the attendant's day off because the door to the hotel wing that you have to ring to get in, referenced above, kept ringing as if people couldn't get in. That was the only time we experienced issues with the buzzing, though. Breakfast is served on an enclosed patio that is very relaxing and private. The spread includes a few fresh pastries, a variety of fruit juices, fruit, cereal and various packaged toasts and snacks.

Sofitel Staff Is Fantastic!!!

  • I Miss My Wallet!!!
  • Jun 13, 2011
Hotel staff was exceptional and sincere in their efforts to make our stay enjoyable. We were robbed on the Metro the second day of the trip and the hotel offered to lend us 100 euro until we could arrange for our own funds. We did not take them up on it but it was very nice of them to offer. If riding the Metro or walking in crowds, leave your wallet and a different credit card in the hotel room safe. Take only the cash you may need and a credit card. Be sure to tuck into secure areas (i.e. sock, shoe, tight front pocket, etc.). Avoid crowded train cars and be mindful of tipping off thieves as to the location of your valuables. Most of us tourests tend to repeatedly touch the pocket in which our wallet is located. Ceartainly a pricey hotel choice, but you really do get what you pay for. Roof top terrace has great views and wonderful atmosphere.

The Hotel was clean and comfortable with cheerful, helpful staff. The Restaurant was clean with a well cooked menu though there was not a big enough choice for us. The location is great, just a 10 minute walk away is Hard Rock Cafe.If you are happy to wander around there are lots of smaller shops with some designer stores on Via Veneto one of the main streets. There are also some Large Hotels along here that puts up the restaurant prices. A variety of trips are on offer which are good if you dont want to organise your own but using the bus service is much cheaper at 1 euro anywhere in Rome one way, these can be purchased from news stands locally. The restaurant next to the Hotel Il Rifugio del Buttero had quite nice food though the staff were unfriendly.Didnt need towels as changed daily, with the beds made and rooms hoovered also daily. On the whole a very good holiday and I would definitely return(threw a coin in the Trevi Fountain so got to go back!!).

Set on one of the most well-known streets in the world, the Ambasciatori Palace Hotel is an elegant choice for those wishing to truly experience La Dolce Vita in Rome. This charming hotel is set on Via Veneto, the street which inspired Fellini's classic movie, Roman Holiday. It was built in the early 20th century for international diplomats from the Embassies nearby. Between 1993 and 2001 the building went under careful renovation. The result was the enhancement of the original, antique decorations, including stuccoes, arches, capitols and columns. The bright and spacious common areas at the Ambasciatori Palace offer a sophisticated atmosphere where you can relax after a day in Rome. All of the comfortable guest rooms and suites feature luxury materials and vintage furnishings. Enjoy a drink at the lounge bar accompanied by live music in the evening, or refined Italian cuisine at La Terrazza Restaurant.
