We (2 of us) were in a small, economy room. Yes, it was small, but we did get used to the limited space. Otherwise, everything was excellent and the people at the desk were always helpful and friendly. The location was great, with most places of interest within walking distance.

We loved the views from the garden terrace; I believe we were lucky enough to get the only room that opened onto the terrace as well! We were away from the street side so it was incredibly quiet as well. The common space was gorgeously retro, and we enjoyed coffee and wine in the bar throughout the day. Although we were told we would have to pay for internet access we had a bit of trouble accessing it and especially logging off of it, so the charge never appeared on our bill. In fact, on departure, the only charges we received totalled 11 euro, including 2 glasses of wine for 3 each while we waited for our room to be cleaned (we arrived earlier than expected) and 5 for corkage when we opened our own bottle on the terrace! The included breakfast was ample & fabulous, including endless free cappucini, with foam so stiff you had to eat it with a spoon!

The Monna Lisa with two ns is an experience, the room was just ok but the hotel was like right out of the middle ages. Good Breakfast spread,no clocks in rooms, they give you one little piece of soap that you transport to the shower when needed, came back to no airconditioning, they turned it on from central control after I complained it is also temperature limited as well. same with the TV volume.Great Location and the best restraunt in the world is just down the street and to the left, reservations absolutely required.Breakfast waiters were very friendly but the desk clerks not really, they are just putting up with you and their English is not top notch.

Special birthday treat

  • Mikey
  • Nov 28, 2012
The first room we were given was very inconvenient with the wardrobe on one floor and the bed at the top of a spiral staircase. There was no window with natural light and the room was unbearably hot with no means of adjusting it. Upon making a complaint however we were given a better room although not what I would expect from a first class hotel. The breakfast was no more than adequate and not included and overpriced. These things are compensated for by the excellent location, however not a 'four star'

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. My room was small, but I was a single person and so it made sense--still it was comfortable, furnished charmingly, and with a great bathroom. The breakfasts are abundant. The walk to the main area for attractions is about 15 minutes, but I really liked being a bit away from all the bustle and walking along the river to the main area or strolling through the charming streets, with great shopping along the way. A wonderful haven in a spectacular city and I highly recommend it.

There's something very pleasing about being served by waiters in white coats first thing in the morning; and the little touches like a design in the foam of our cappuccino were what set this hotel above the bar. On top of that, the front desk staff was exceptionally accomodating and helped us take care of a pressing issue upon our arrival. Our room was spacious and clean, and the bathrooms were beautiful. The location was excellent, right on the banks of the Arno and only a minute walk to the Ponte Vecchio. I would recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Florence.

Hotel is nice and in a good location. We booked a room with garden view - very lovely. Our room is big, clean and up dated. Front desk employees are very nice and helpful. Breakfast is good. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to our friends and family members. We would go back and stay in this hotel again.

The staff at the reception and at the breakfast room are very courteous and helpful. Tidiness of the room we stayed were really good. However the Room 36 we stayed in for four nights has a bathroom which needs to be refurbished - there was no shower curtain or glass screen and consequently when we have shower water splashes around the bathroom, and the bath itself is very small and has two levels. The breakfast is cold except the toasts - just scrambled eggs or warm bacon and sausages would have been enjoyable; and then the machine coffee! Otherwise the hotel and the staff are fine. MR Surrey

Clean room. Good service. Perfect Location. Yummy Breakfast. Good price. I can't ask for more. Only one issue: hot water will be hot right the way. The shower needed to run about 10 mins to be hot.

Nice hotel just a few minutes easy walk from the Duomo. The street seems quite noisy at night though (mainly with ambulances, for some reason), so you might need earplugs.

The hotel was centrally located and staff were very accommodating. Breakfast was very good with lots of choices and plenty of seating. The room was comfortable but the bathroom could use some renovating. Overall it was a very good experience considering the craziness of the area and the number if people they try to accommodate.

Description
Hotel Croce di Malta is the ideal place to find rest after an intense workday, an important conference or a lengthy visit to Florentine monuments. The hotel is located in what up until the mid 1800's was the old Suore della Carita (Sisters of Charity) convent, which offered hospitality to Florence's "poor, virtuous maidens". The convent was built on a pre-existing building from Roman times. Marble sculptures and relief's date back from this period, as well as a splendid column decorated with an Ionic capital that can still be admired today in various areas of the hotel. Its structure is a harmonious fusion of Tuscan renaissance forms and contemporary architectural design. The rooms and interior decoration stem from essential, pure geometrical forms where the meticulous play of full and empty shapes creates a special, modern ambience. The hotel encloses a lovely inner garden with swimming pool, a small jewel rarely found in Florence's centre. Enjoy tranquility and relax among magnolias and wisterias, sunbathe or take a refreshing dip in the pool. From the last floor you can reach the spacious panoramic terrace, yet another one of the hotel's enviable assets with a bar available for cocktails on sunny days. From here the eyes take in an evocative, sweeping 360-degree vista comprising of the elegant, sophisticated shape of the Duomo against the backdrop of Florentine hills, the red cupola by Brunelleschi, the whiteness of the marble embellished with green of the glorious Santa Maria Novella facade and its soaring Romanic-Gothic bell tower. At sunset this wondrous view lights up with all the nuances of red, yellow and gold springing forth from rooftops and building facades. The hotel also provides facilities like banquet facilities, Bar, Concierge, Doctor on call, High-Speed Internet access, Wireless Internet access, Lift / Elevator, Lobby, Non-smoking rooms, Parking facilities at cost, Reception, Room service, Safe deposit box and Smoke-free hotel.

  • Jun 17, 2012
Great experience at the Panorama. It was our first time to florence and with so much to see/do over the 3 days, we only needed a bed to sleep in at night and clean towels which the hotel provided. It pretty much does everything it says on the tin, clean room, cheap price and a good location. Its about 10 minutes walk from Duomo and 15/20 to the Uffuzi which makes a nice little walk in the morning/evening to and from the hotel and around 20 mins through the centre to the train station. The hotel staff were helpful when needed and I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are touring florence on a budget for a few days and just need a bed to sleep in for the right price and location.

A RECOMMANDER...

this affordable hotel is nicely located for foodies interested in the Scuola de Arte Culinario Cordon Bleu and outstanding restuarants nearby. Also far enough from the Centro to be reasonably quiet at night.

Great service, accommodations

My wife and I stayed at the Arizona on pleasure/business trip. Would recommend it strongly to friends. Located NW of bulk of Florence attractions. If you're in reasonably good health, it's walking distance to all top attractions, very near museum with David replica, and block away from little-known gem: Santa Maria Maddalena de Pazzi. Owner/host and his staff were very helpful. The room was standard fare, very neat. (On another post, I saw complaint about the bathroom size. This person clearly isn't too aware of Italian accommodations. It was fine.) In sum, the room and accommodations were great. The breakfast was tasty. You take airport shuttle to train station, and from train station, get bus ticket and then take the 6 or 23 bus to the park at Piazza d'Azeglio; a block south of the SW corner of park.

THE best location in Florence!

  • MI Honeymooners
  • Aug 30, 2010
If you want the absolutely best location in Florence, the Hermitage Hotel is it! This hotel is definitely a little known gem since the cab driver had to ask the policemen on the corner near Ponte Vecchio where it was, and they didn't even know, even though they were only 10 yards from it! After getting past the check-in procedure, which was a little awkward being on the 5th floor, we got into our room and fell in love with the cute antique furniture, the great view of the street (Ponte Vecchio was blocked out by the Corridoio Vasariano), and the awesome bathroom with a huge jacuzzi tub! This was all great compared to typical European rooms. The view from the rooftop veranda was spectacular! The hotel is nice and secure at night with two locked doors, and a security code to enter the elevator. We always felt safe. The only disappointment really was the limited breakfast offering they had. This is not a 5-star hotel, but it is a great deal for the cost, and in a great location, if I haven't mentioned that yet. We will plan to stay here again when we return to Florence!

I loved this hotel! It is perfectly located in front of the Ponte Vecchio. The hotel is a typical small Italian hotel, the atmosphere is cozy and very welcoming. It was quiet and peaceful and the staff was very helpful. The perfect hotel to stay in if you're visiting Florence.

THE HOTEL WAS A VERY CLEAN AND A FRIENDLY PLACE TO STAY. THE ROOM WAS LARGE ENOUGH FOR TWO PEOPLE BUT IT WAS VERY NOISY. YOU COULD HEAR EVERYTHING GOING ON NEXT DOOR. THE LOCATION WAS NOT THE BEST BUT WE DID LIKE THE PIZZA NEXT TO THE HOTEL. PEOPLE HUNG OUT IN THE PARK ALL NIGHT LONG.

Cozy, intimate hotel

Florence is a small, beautiful city and small enough to walk to the various attractions. Everything is within a 10 to 20 minutes walk. Our hotel was about a 10 minute walk from the train station. It's a small and cozy hotel. The room was small but clean, though it could use a fresh coat of paint. The staff was very helpful and made reservations for us to see the Accademia and Uffizi museums which usually have very long lines. One thing to note is the bathroom tub did not have a shower curtain, but the floor was tiled to let the water drain out. That's the way they have it there I believe. The breakfast was very good and there was a great restaurant around the corner that had absolutely delicious Italian food. I would highly recommend it. It's called Il Messere on Via Guelfa. We are vegetarians and they made us very happy indeed, so I can imagine how the rest of the food would be as well. Don't miss an evening walk by the river near the Ponte Vecchio. It is gorgeous! And do take a trip to Pisa from there. It is an hour's train ride from Florence and the leaning tower is worth the trip.

A Lesson in Doing Your Homework

  • AmandaX
  • Feb 29, 2012
Let me preface what I am about to say by letting you know that I did not necessarily have a bad time here, but I did get a completely different experience than what I was expecting. I read only a few reviews and looked briefly at their website. I thought, for the price and location, and based on the good reviews I read, that it would be perfect. And by no means was the CHGH flawed in any way, it was just a complete surprise. Here are the facts: This is NOT a hotel. It is more like a themed bed and breakfast. The "Play Room" has a rock wall (awesome) and pictures of clowns on the wall of the bedroom (alarming). All the rooms have a theme. It is perfectly clean and comfortable (once you take the pictures that make you uncomfortable off the wall and stow them safely away in the corner, facing the wall) Best shower I have ever used in Italy. Think that sums it up. Just make sure you know what you're getting into when you walk in to the Casa Howard. They are friendly and super accomodating, but it is a different kind of experience. The location is amazing though, and they even have bottles of wine available for purchase on every floor. Drink up!

Description
The Hotel Palazzo Vecchio has a strategic location in the historical center of Florence, near to the main train station "Santa Maria Novella", the Congress Palace, the Cathedral (Duomo), the exhibition center and all major monuments and museums of the city. The hotel is located in a building constructed in the early 20th Century, which still preserves the ancient atmosphere and particular details of the period, as some multi-colored ceramic floors. Part of the building has been modernized with warm parquet floors and beautiful marble. At the entrance, as in other common areas, you can find a typical Tuscany tradition, underlined by the furniture and floors that are inspired to the ancient works of stones and marbles, which wonderful examples of this are preserved in Museum of the "Opificio delle Pietre Dure" in Florence. The hotel has in five floors and has 34 rooms including single, double, triple, quadruple and family rooms. The large private garden and the parking give completeness to the majestic structure. On request of the guest, Hotel Palazzo Vecchio offers rooms with a wonderful view of the cathedral of Florence (Duomo). An extra charge will be applied. All the rooms offer satellite TV, phone, minibar, safe box, air conditioning /heating, and private bathroom. We offer FREE WIFI to all our guests.

GREAT location! POOR everything else!

  • Bullitt774
  • May 15, 2012
First impression from outside the hotel... SPECTACULAR!!! The lobby & front desk was beautiful! That's about where is stopped. Our room was on the 4th floor with an elevator that only goes to the 3rd. Walking in the room it was more of a glorified attic with a bathroom. The ceilings were LOW. I banged my head on the bathroom celing & the ceiling on my side of the bed (I'm only 6 feet tall). If the room (including bathroom) was 250 sq ft I would be surprised. The "view" they show on their web site & on here is nowhere NEAR what we had. The only view we had could only be seen if you were 6 foot 5 inches tall. I had to hold the camera over my head to take a picture of the hills that were 3 miles away. One morining at 7:00 my wife tried to take a shower but there was NO hot water. I called shortly after that & all they told me was "Turn the hot water on and wait a minute" so after an hour of waiting with the sink AND the shower on hot, we gave up & took a cold shower so we could start our day. When we returned at 9:00 P.M., we STILL had no hot water. I asked for another room but was given a room on the 1st floor to shower ONLY in. The next morning we had NO water for 2 hours. Here are the things I can say were good about this hotel, the free breakfast was worth EVERY penny we paid for it (FREE), VERY centrally located (within 20 minutes of everything we wanted to see) & close to the train station (2 min walk)!! We will NEVER go back to this hotel & will NEVER recommend this hotel to ANYONE unless they are under 5 feet 5 inches tall that likes rude hotel staff & does't mind a cold (or NO shower) once in a while!

Hotel was perfect for our needs. We had four students staying in a quad with a double and two twins. It was near the train station which was very convenient. Staff was nice and room was great. It even included breakfast!
