The location is great - on a busy, historical (and a bit hectic) main thoroughfare. The property is beautiful and the service was spot-on. Unfortunately they didn't have my reservation at check-in, but this was resolved after about an hour of threats of being walked at nearly midnight. [...] That made for a bumpy, unwelcome start to an otherwise wonderful stay.

The Hotel Manganelli Palace: There were six of us, so we needed two triple rooms. The rooms were gorgeous and comfortable. The hotel is minutes on foot to Via Etnea, stores, restaurants, the Duomo, etc., and fifteen-minute walk to the train station and bus terminal. We were a little concerned when we first arrived, as the immediate area doesn't necessarily suggest "Palace," but the rooms and staff won us over. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and extremely helpful. We would definitely stay there again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. It's a great value and a wonderful place to return to after a day of exploring Catania.

4 stars charming Residence Hotel La Vetreria is situated in the historical centre of the baroque city art Catania, next to Ursino Castle, one of the few buildings to have survived the earthquake of 1693 and various volcanic eruptions. Recently renovated, the castle houses today the Catania Civic Museum and a gallery of local art. 22 rooms shared in 13 apartments of different sizes inside a beautifully restored' 900 century old building, that since 1924 housed a glassworks factory. Renovated and transformed in 2002 into a residence-hotel the owners manage it and it is perfect for short or long stay of individual or groups looking for the cosy atmosphere together with a special care. La Vetreria is especially appreciated by families, seniors, single women travelling alone, movie and theatre actors, opera singers, religious groups as team is courteous, very friendly and attentive. The rich breakfast offers typical Sicilian plates, well for all different tastes and habits. The hotels take a special care of guests' food need (celiac or diabetic patients or food intolerant).
The Residence has a capacity of 56 people. An apartment is also predisposed for disabled guests. In the rooms, as in the whole house, you can notice a special care for details just to make the stay really comfortable. As in the past, the lamps, the curtains and hand-made cushions make the already warm rooms, very charming and pleasant. All the rooms have private bathrooms with hair drier, direct telephone, ADSL Internet connection, WIFI, minibar, self-heating, TV, SKY TV and all the stuff you need to make a coffee or a tea. Upon departure in the AM the clerk forgot to give me my passport. [...] I had to return from the airport to get my passport, which cost me another 25 euros. This was not good. The hotel was clean and neat, next to the train and bus stations. I would stay there again.

A very nice hotel in a quite run-down area. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would not suggest this location for a woman traveling alone because the area seems very downtrodden. You will not feel comfortable leaving your vehicle on the side street. I would not venture out after dark with a family due to the numerous vagabonds and winos in the area. Once inside the confines of the hotel however the place is a true oasis!!! The rooms were large,clean well furnished and the bathrooms were roomy and spotless. There is a nice breakfast area and a lovely outdoor terrace on the 1st floor.
Ten minutes from Catania Fontanarossa Airport.

Villa Mater is located a few minutes away from the historical centre of Catania and enjoys a stunning view: the sea of Ognina and the "plaia's" white sandy beaches on one side, and Mt. Etna that in the course of the seasons passes from snow-capped peaks to naked slopes crossed by fiery tongues of its own lava. The house shares part of the local life, where local artesans reproduce the "flavours" of ancient traditions. It is far from the city clamour and carries forth an intense relation with the "Monte" that constitutes a majestic setting. Hospitality is denoted by a "family welcome" that express our genuine manners.
Not included in room price: EUR 1 city tax per person per night.

From town center, it's about a 4km walk uphill. Highly recommend taking taxi and have the address handy (be sure to negotiate taxi fare before getting in the taxi). The hotel is well kept, very neat, with a picturesque view of Mt. Etna to the North, and town center to the South. The hotel room was a little small, but enough space for two. The concierge speak little English, but were very helpful and pleasant. My only complaint is the internet service. The only wifi service available is located in the lobby and it's "pay by the hour". I would recommend this hotel to a friend, but don't bother to bring your laptop.

We only spend two nights at this hotel. our room was clean but very noisy (foot steps, door closing, water running). When the occupant in the next room take a shower it sounds like he or she is using our shower.

Description
Small hotel located in the very center of Catania and its famous Elephant Statue. The hotel also has a reading room. 1010 GA The building itself is historical, dating from the late seventeenth century. It was completely refurbished in 2001. The hotel is located in the heart of Catania's historical centre, just a brief stroll away from Piazza Duomo and Via Etnea.

First, the good points - the two gentleman who staffed the front reception desk were really terrific. They could work in a "Four Seasons" resort hotel any day of the week. (One spent approximately forty-five minutes trying to help me contact "Air Malta".) additionally, the hotel has a great location.
The bad points are numerous. The hotel is very dated. Yes, there is a new flat screen on the wall, but the plugs for it hang to the side where you could easily catch on them. The bed was a board. Light bulbs were out, mosquitos in the room, and the black mold in the tiny shower. No lift, and the stairs were steep and worn.(Easy to slip on....) Breakfast was skimpy and coffee cold.
Hope this helps, I will not return, but I would hire either one of the front desk guys, if I owned a hotel.

Rooms very small, they could have done with extra room for 2 people. We had to really work our way around our accommodation. Not very private either, each balcony overlooked the other with doors right beside. Pleasant outlook to Mt Etna

The owner and his staff went above and beyond to make our stay great. Breakfast was great, a nice variety, and very family centered. The location was charming and breath-taking. A car is a necessity. There is no public transportation.
