Very charming hotel

  • NYCJulie
  • Dec 1, 2012
This hotel is a very short walk, about 3-5 minutes, to JFK Park and all the bars, restaurants, shopping, etc. The hotel is old, but updated and very charming. The rooms appear to all be different. We had a fake fireplace and an oil painting in our room. The staff is very friendly, parking is free, an excellent breakfast is free and they gave us a coupon for something like a bottle, of wine, two 3 course meals for 38 euro. And the food was good! I would stay here again

The hotel staff was very accommodating. The room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was enjoyable and plentiful. Dinner was equally enjoyable and very good - ate in the bar area, which is frequented by the locals and adds to the charm. The location is easily accessible from the highway and is a short distance into he center of town. Would stay again and would recommend.

A Good Value

  • BandBfan
  • Nov 21, 2012
We had a nice family room (room for 4) that came with a kitchen. We didn't need the kitchen, but it was a nice option. The breakfast was fine, nothing special. The baked goods were packaged. The price was good, and we got what we expected for the price. The location was very good, off a main road into town, and near student housing. Overall a nice place to stay.

Although we only stayed for one night the Amber Hill offered a sense of home and comfort to our trip. Just a short taxi or bus ride from Galways gorgeous city centre pubs and shopping along with the lovely Salthill area including the prom with the arch and museum. I cannot wait to return to the area.

Possibly best hotel of trip

  • Riddler1032
  • Sep 11, 2012
This hotel has a good location, good atmosphere, and good people. The staff was friendly every time I needed something at the desk. The room wasn't huge but the bed was comfortable. It was one of the only double beds that wasn't just two twin beds put together. Only complaint about room comfort was there was no AC and the room was warm at night even with windows open. There is a parking garage behind the hotel that is a little tight but seculded and safe and there is entry directly to the hotel. 5 euro/night parking. At check in we were informed of the hotel resturant's 3 course 20 euro for 2 deal. It seemed like a great idea and we were excited to try it. However the menu was minimal and they were out of things they did not inform of us right away. Had I known this before ordering we would not have stayed. Location is a short walk (5min) to the main pedestrian area of Galway. It is easy access but not in the hustle bustle of everything which I liked.

If you are staying in Galway, this is an extremely convenient location - right by the bus station and a close walk to Eyre Square. The hotel staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the continental breakfast was great. There are not a lot of options in Galway as it's extremely small, but at the Radisson Blu you get a good bargain with the breakfast, hotel staff, free internet and gym. I think this is really the best option if you want to spend a few days in Galway.

Hotel was very nice, and the owner was very welcoming. The room was really nicely laid out, and very clean - loved the chocolates on the pillows, lovely touch. Everything was very clean, and the breakfast was very nice. The location is good, about a 25 minute walk to the Prom (5 mins in car), and there is a car parking provided. I was here for a wedding in the Galway Bay Hotel, and it was €8 for a taxi back at 3.00 am so all in all, I was well pleased!

En ayant payƩ 49 euros la chambre

  • Anonymous
  • Sep 13, 2009

Miserable

  • Nailers
  • Sep 6, 2010
5 of us stayed in an "apartment" in the Carlton hotel for 2 nights on 28 August 2010. Checking in was very unfriendly and unhelpful, typical lack of staff training and general poor attitude of the Irish receptionist (checking out was better, more friendly - non - Irish receptionist). The apartment was ok,but no cooker although an extractor fan was provided(?). Apartment was small and was pretty hard to get around with the excessive use of very heavy fire doors (one required to open 4 such doors to travel from bedroom 1 to 2) Generally the hotel is of a very poor standard of design, i would suspect an untrained/unqualified person was employed by the owners to "design" the hotel rather than an architect, the main restaurant was hilariously tacky - decked out in fake stone chairs (think Stonehenge from Spinal Tap) and huge plaster arms holding up part of the ceiling (think Scarface). Getting from the reception to hotel room would require a map or at least staff who could direct guests although the guy we met on corridor hadn't even enough English to say "i don't speak english" im sure if he was trained he could have went in search of a colleague who could assist but he just went back to vacuuming the corridor.Internet situation was pretty poor, no wi-fi instead one had to take long walk to pay €10 deposit at reception to avail of internet cable...reception had no change of a €20 and seriously suggested that we give them the full €20 as deposit rather than getting change for us (or better still have a float available at reception). Shoddy hotel won't be back, woken during the night by hen party cackling up and down the corridor, also guy being restrained from a fight when I was moving my car on the sat night. Give it a miss...seriously.

Excellent apartments with great views over Galway, pretty pricy but as a once off on holiday I would definatley recommend it. Only a couple of things let it down would have helped if we had known that you had to call in at a nearby hotel to collect keys etc this would have saved us driving around Galway in the rain!. Ensuite bathroom shower door was removed which meant even when you were careful having a shower the water went everywhere would have helped if more towels were provided.

A great hotel...an OK location

  • Visiting Ireland
  • Aug 29, 2012
The G Hotel is a modern hotel with eclectic furnishings. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is delicious. The only negative is the hotel's location which is a long walk from the "action" if one is looking for pubs and restaurants. I would definitely return despite the location.

very pleased

  • Aug 20, 2012
Just got back from spending 4 nights at the G hotel. Check in was quick, and the front desk was more than helpful. My friend and I are both on special diets, and the staff was very accommodating to our specific requests. My only complaint is the location. Its not in the center of town, and without a car it's a good 15-20 minute walk.

Great Staff, nice place, decent location

  • Maui visitors
  • Oct 25, 2012
In my short 3 or 4 interactions w/ the staff, they were all willing to help & seemed genuinely interested. Location was great for the school, but a few minute drive for the shopping/bar area. The room was overall just fine. Nothing fancy, but the bathroom was nicely redone.

As expected

  • i love ireland
  • Aug 1, 2010
When I saw "no frills," I went in with low expectations. They were met. I booked a room for a single bed and ended up with a full size bed, so that was a nice surprise. All I needed was internet access and a place to sleep, and I got both, so I was completely fine. However, if you're looking for something with amenities or something close to the pubs, this is not it.

Parking for hotel was difficult to find, had to ask desk attendent where the garage was located, she gave great directions and we found it fine after asking. Location is very nice, within walking distance to Shop Street. Lots of pubs nearby. We had to wait about 30 minutes to check in because our room wasn't ready, due to the hotel offering late check out. Breakfast was very good, room was very clean and nice, exceeded my expectations for the price we paid. Overall very nice, I would recommend and would stay again!

Staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are exactly what you expect staying at the travel lodge. Location isn't great, about a miles walk to city center not bad for us but kind of scary to walk at night.

Front desk staff was pleasant. Didn't include those little shampoos/conditioner or blow dryer, so bring your own. Room was comfortable though and good sized. It is a little out of the way of downtown but not bad at all - 10-15min walking distance to the center of town. I would stay again.

The hotel was located in the center of town making it easy to walk anywhere we wanted to go. The staff was very friendly and helpful from greeting us and parking our car to meeting all our needs. The rooms have been refurbished and enjoyed the plasma TV in our room and the heated towels. The workout room was nicely equipped but also had a fantastic view of the bay.
