Clean room great location

I really wanted something to eat when we returned to our room at 9:30 on a Friday night. We had been out all day and I wanted to get back early so we could pack our stuff up and grab a quick bite but they weren't serving food any longer! Also the receptionist told us the night before that breakfast began at 7 am, so we would be able to eat before we le for the airport. Breakfast did not begin until 8 am but we had to leave by 730! No food once again! We liked everything else about the room and the hotel.

Nice hotel, decent value

  • ZeusandMac
  • Mar 18, 2012
I traveled to Dublin in March and booked this hotel for a good deal (just under 70USD per night). For that price, I was pleased with what I found. The hotel is located to the west of the city center, 15 minutes or so, and it's in easy walk (or an even easier LUAS ride) down. I was in town mostly for business, so I would have appreciated more of a work space or wifi, but it's my fault for not looking into that earlier. There is free internet, but it's wired in the rooms and it was particularly slow most of the time. The hotel restaurant was serviceable but nothing spectacular. It is, however, located right next to a nice food market where you can purchase a variety of ready-made food. Had there been a kitchenette in the room, I would have been ecstatic. I will also say that, while the soundproofing between the rooms was adequate, I could hear every movement made from the hallway. There was only one night where this was truly an issue but it was more of a nuisance overall. I can see it being problematic if there are loud guests on your floor. Over all, I was pleased with what I received for the price I paid. However, I looked into the rates for my second trip and they're nearer to 200USD per night and I would absolutely not stay at the Maldron for that price.

Great place to stay for location. Right in Temple Bar - loads of pubs within seconds of walking, grocery store across the street, pickup for tour buses is about 2 blocks away, river and the oldest pub in Ireland is a short walk & airport bus picks up and drops off at the corner. Only draw back is the street noise, especially if you stay on the front of the building - Fleet street is hopping most nights, regardless of season or weather

The hotel, a busy place during check-in and breakfast, provides an excellent location to hit all the main tourist spots (and bars) in central Dublin. We found the staff to be helpful and we loved the breakfast. Great bar too. The room was a bit tight, however, but what do you expect for $77 a night! We would stay here again.

Schönes Hotel etwas außerhalb des Zentrums

  • Reisender01

This hotel was a great place to stay. the rooms were always cleaned daily. It's the perfect place to stay because you're right in the middle of everything. it gets a little noisy on the weekends but hey it's Templebar! Two of the things that are on the downside is that they don't offer any continental breakfast and you have to be standing outside your door to get Wi-Fi connection. the staff always helped if you needed to find something Or directions. Me and my wife stayed here for one week and we were very satisfied staying here.

Great Location for the O2

  • UWEngineer
  • Jul 23, 2011
The Gibson Hotel is a very trendy hotel situated at the point in Dublin. The room and bathroom was very modern and very well put together. Complementary Wi-Fi was available and multiple power outlets were present for electronic devices. If you were planning on seeing a show at the O2, the location is excellent. If you want to see temple bar expect a ~7 Euro (each way) taxi ride or ~4 Euro tram ride (round trip). The tram is located just outside the hotel entrance. Reception was very nice and was the bar staff. Food within the hotel is expensive, but this is to be expected. Parking in the public ramp below the hotel is very safe and secure however expensive. I believe it to be ~18 Euro a night, however parking is expensive throughout the city. All together, a very nice hotel with a good wait staff, a unique location, and excellent service.

Great Location in Dublin

  • CMM in VA
  • Mar 12, 2012
Stayed four nights while visiting Dublin and northern part of the country. Staff very helpful, we arrived before check in and were able to drop our bags at the front desk so we didn't have to carry them with us while shopping that morning. Had a problem with heat in the room but were moved to another room. Nothing elegant about the rooms, and they are small, but they provide all that is needed. I did notice that the tub/shower floor was several inches higher than the bathroom floor making it awkward to step out, possibly a problem for those not stable on their feet (there are no hand rails). Main feature about this hotel is location. Dining area very nice, has a bar and stage where Irish dancers perform every night (dance show is free). The tourist office is right down the street where you can get lots of information about local attractions. Found a 24 hour cafe/convenience store about a block away.

All hotel and bar staff were very welcoming and friendly and the general overall service given was excellent for our requirements. The Irish dancing/music entertainment provided each night was an added bonus. The hotel location is extremely convenient for touring the city as the local/city tour buses and airlink bus all have stops within metres of the Arlington.

Great value in Dublin!

  • Abigail in NYC
  • Feb 2, 2012
This hotel is definitely no frills but the rooms were clean, had all the basic necessities, and the bed was comfortable. Front desk staff were very friendly and knowledgeable (i.e. helped us figure out how to get to the airport, dining recommendations, etc). We arrived at 10AM and they had our room ready by 11AM! This was really great, as we were tired and jet-lagged and needed to rest before going out to explore the city. Location was in walking distance to everything and there were some great pubs and restaurants in the neighborhood. Also, the stop for the AirLink bus to and from the airport was located less than 2 minutes from the hotel. Overall, a very good value for the money. If you don't plan on staying in the room the whole time (and why would you!) this hotel is perfect for anyone on a budget! We would stay here again of traveling back to Dublin.

A hostel, yet still disappointing.....

  • Bjlopeztx
  • May 6, 2012
Located in the up and coming Smithfield neighborhood Dublin, I selected the Generator Hostel because of its great reviews and reasonable pricing. This was my first time staying in a hostel and I expected and overall no-frills experience. However, I was still left disappointed even with low expectations. The Generator has a very club-like feel with spacious bars, neon lighting, and trendy fixtures. The lobby and ground floor is the best feature of the Generator with a breakfast cafe, bar, internet computers, pool tables, and vending areas. As told by the staff, the Generator property is less than one year old. However the property feels much older and unkempt. There are floorboards loose throughout the property and the fixtures are worn. The guests room are where the property really shows wear. The location is was also a sticking point for me. On the positive side, it is close to the Luas tram stop, the Jameson Distillery, and some restaurants in Smithfield Square. However as far as most City Centre attractions, shops, and restaurants, it is about a 1.5 km walk to nearly everything. We stayed in a private room with an en suite bath. It was a room with two bunk beds to sleep four guests but we had it for just the two of us. The bunk beds were surprisingly comfortable with cozy linens and individual lighting for each cove. Other than the cozy beds, there were few positive notes about the guest rooms. The bathroom was by far the worst feature of the Generator. There was ZERO counter space to place any items down. The towels had to be retrieved from the front desk, even in the private rooms. No wash cloths were provided. there was also only two hooks to hang towels in the very bare bathroom. The shower was tiny and the tile was filthy. There was visible mold up the walls of the shower tiles. The floor of the shower was stainless steel which felt cold and dirty. The shower faucet was fussy and water pressure was weak. The water temperature was unpredictable and generally cold. I understand that this is a hostel but there was no place to set down items, not even a cabinet and certainly no closet to hang your clothes up. The staff at the Generator was somewhat friendly although guests are basically treated as numbers, not guests. You have to request just about every amenity from the front desk which let long waits at the counter. The staff essentially did the minimum job possible and was barely helpful most of the time. The did have laundry units available for guest use although it was very steep at 7 Euros per use. The daily breakfast was much more reasonable at 4 Euros. Overall, I wouldn't recommend staying at the Generator Hostel. Unless you favor a very-budget, no frills experience, the Generator Hostel is mostly a hassle. Our stay was not very comfortable and the location is inconvenient to most City Centre attractions.

Great place to stay! Especially on St. Patty's Day!

  • Liz Daveedo
  • Mar 28, 2012
This hotel was very nice. They had plenty of outlets in the room and great space to get ready for two girls going out on St. Patty's Day. The hotel bar was great for live music and less expensive pints of Guinness then we spent out in Dublin. Bus station right across the street to head into town for less than 3 euro and they had our cars inside a locked underground gate area. Felt very safe! Great place and great staff very helpful in getting around!

We got off to a bad start, self check in was at 2.30pm, when we arrived at the security box there was no key. Luckily a member of staff happened to come by and called the cleaning lady. We were given our key, but the room had yet to be cleaned. When we came back 2 hours later the room was in the process of being cleaned, so we had to hang around until it was done. The next problem was no hot water. After calling several times a handy man came. He said it would take 3 hours to fix properly, so did some temporary changes. This meant we did get hot water, but it was scolding hot, and at best a slow dribble.

I loved the location of the hotel, it is in the center of everything. Close to shops, main shopping streets, DOES THAT ROCKER PERSON KNOW THAT THERE WAS TWO ROCK BARS METER'S FROM THE HOTEL. And they are extremely popular and very good, a chili peppers tribute played there and after seeing the chili peppers live 4 times these lads seriously gave them a great compliment. Hotel was fab, staff were sweet and polite, pub was great, the quiz was funny, the club is cool, mixed crowd, some students, 30 plus people, hen crowd and stag nite in also... drinks where expensive though on friday but thurs nite is 3.50 beer drinks and two for 1 cocktails....

I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, and it started feeling like it was my own home - the hotel room was that comfy! It had all necessities such as safe, ironing board & iron, tea/coffee, amenities, writing desk, sofa, closet, TV, etc. The price includes breakfast as well. All the staff were really friendly and helpful (knew where the nearest internet cafe was, informed me of a party that was planned for the evening if any and its finishing time, kept my suitcase for me even after my check-out until I had to leave for the airport). It really felt like I was living in a big old charming house with those staff! I would definitely go back! I miss the comfort already!

Günstiges Hotel in Flughafen- und Zentrumsnähe

  • Apr 17, 2012
