Best Trip

We had a wonderful time, in large part to the assistance of the staff and hotel amenities. Everyone we met was very friendly and looked to our requests. The hotel was the furthest from the airport, but seemed the best located for any excursions. We spent one afternoon on a neighboring island, half a day on an ATV tour and also took in a Tiki dinner. All was booked and charged through the hotel, making payments and reservations easy. The best part is a local market across the street that you can grab breakfast, lunch, and drinks from that saves a ton of money on food. Quick note that the overwater bungalow is not truly an overwater bungalow, more of a deck that goes over the water. There are a couple premium overwater bungalows, which are different than the overwater bungalows (just a deck over the water).

Super place to get away.

The Intercontinental Hotel on Moorea in French Polynesia is everything you are looking for in an exotic get away. The location is best described as perfect, the staff is friendly and helpful and the facilities are world class. It was the rainy season, but while that can mean lots of rain, for us it was a few hours of rain in otherwise perfect weather for 10 days. They have a dive center on site where one can learn to dive, get certified or just enjoy the local diving with a great team of divers and instructors. Water sports and option on, in and around the water include everything you can imagine from breakfast delivered to your room by outrigger to snorkeling, dolphin center and to hanging around the pool. Skip Tahiti and go straight to Moorea, you will be glad you did.

  • Sally
  • Jul 4, 2009
Moorea Pearl is quite nice for a day or so but it does not have much beach. The snorkelling is good and the scuba diving people are really lovely people. The location is close to shops so you can buy food (restaurants in Moorea are v expensive, even breakfast...$60 AU each!) but it is a small resort so the locals are very close and their dogs wander through the resort. Also the neighbours are very loud....there are better resorts on Moorea.

Gorgeous resort

We stayed at Sofitel for our honeymoon, and it was simply gorgeous. The hotel is located on the fairly isolated east side, so there aren't any restaurants (besides the hotels') that are within walking distance. Fortunately they will all pick you up when you make a reservation! Rent a bicycle and ride up the back way to Maharepa for shopping and lunches. Also the restaurant buffet dinner was a bit pricey. We tried both the beach view room and the Superior Overwater Bungalow, and I'd say the beach was better. Both were excellent!

Wonderful value in Papeete, Tahiti!

  • Virginia
  • Nov 22, 2008
You can stay on the ocean with a beach steps away, but you will never get the personal, friendly service we got at Fare Suisse, for 1/3 the price! It's situated in a gated residential neighborhood a few blocks from the ocean drive - about 10-15 minutes' walk to downtown. We had a large living room/kitchenette and a patio with table and chairs. The main downsides to us were a very hard bed, lack of A/C, and a few roosters who were on Tibetan daylight savings time, crowing at strange hours in the night! Excellent service and attitude, tasteful decor and landscaping seemed to give us an overall great impression.

I liked that it was conveniently located. I came in on the ferry from Moorea and was pleased to find out the hotel was only 2 or 3 blocks from the terminal. I was able to just walk with my backpack. There is a convenience store right beside the hotel - great for snacks. And there are restaurants back toward the terminal. The room was clean, the airconditioning worked - I only wish there was a American style outlet for my laptop. It would also have been nice if there was wi-fi in the room. I have a Macbook Air and I could not use their cable to connect to the Internet.

Dream Honeymoon

  • Baltimore Bride
  • May 7, 2012
Bora Bora is breathtaking and the perfect place for a relaxing, low-key honeymoon. The Four Seasons resort made the experience even better. We were impressed from the moment we stepped off the boat when we were greeted on the pier by our personal conceirge who checked us in and escorted us around some of the grounds (there was also someone waiting by reception with a tray of glasses of mango juice- awesome!). The resort's beach, infinity pool, lagoon, grounds, etc. were all beautiful. All of the staff were very warm and friendly; I really felt like they cared that we had a memorable and enjoyable experience. The buffet breakfast was delicious; I loved that they had a different fresh juice each morning like guava pineapple or pineapple banana or whatever other wonderful combination they came up with. We had great dining experiences at the other restaurants as well. My only negative comment is that they charged us an excessive fee for the boat ride to and from the airport, which we didn't realize until reviewing the check-out statement after we arrived home. Considering that there aren't any other options to get to and from the resort, I think that is kind of taking advantage of the guests.

A very nice hotel with some room for improvement

  • TahitiLover
  • Jan 16, 2012
I stayed at the Sofitel in December 2011 with my husband. We spent four days on Bora Bora, and wanted to have an experience on the mainland as well as on one of the motus. We therefore stayed at Le Meridien for two days, then transferred to the Sofitel for two days. After coming from Le Meridien, the Sofitel was definitely a step-down, but we anticipated this to an extent given the price difference. The staff at Le Meridien made such an effort with guests and were so pleasant in their manner; this was not the case with the staff at the Sofitel (with the exception of the woman from Switzerland who checked us in and was so friendly and helpful). They weren't unpleasant per se; they were just a tad surly. Our check-in went fine, and we appreciated being allowed to access our room about an hour before official check-in. It did, however, take several calls and about an hour for our bags to arrive, which was frustrating because my husband needed to prepare for a diving trip. We would have taken our bags ourselves had we known it would take so long. At first look, we were pleased with our room, which was a lagoon-front bungalow. It had a large terrace with direct access to the water. There wasn't a lot of privacy and the water directly around the bungalow was quite murky, but being able to climb right into the water from the deck was great. You have to swim for a bit to reach the nicer water with more marine activity. The reason I said we were pleased with the room "at first look" is because once we had gotten settled in the room we noticed that certain areas were dirty, such as around the fridge (this was very dirty) and certain parts of the bathroom. We also noticed that certain things weren't being kept up - toilet tissue used to close a hole in the shower ceiling and so forth. The room has a lot of potential; it just has to be better maintained. The only meal we had at the hotel was for lunch. We each had a sandwich for about $12 apiece, and they were pretty good. They get you on the drinks, like $6 for water and $7 for soda. For one dinner we ate at La Bounty, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel (turn left when coming out of the hotel). The place was atmospheric, there were lots of choices, it was reasonably priced, and the food was very good. I would definitely recommend dinners there. For our other meals, we ate food we had purchased from the grocery store that is very close to La Bounty. $5 buys you about an hour on the Internet using one of two computers in the lobby. The connection was bad, but it was great to have a cheap way to check the most essential things. We took the shuttle boat to the private island to go snorkeling. It's definitely more beautiful on the private island, but the trade-off is having to get on a shuttle boat in order to access the mainland. The boat only takes 5 minutes though, and there is a restaurant on the island to make things more convenient. If you are very into snorkeling, I'd advise you to stay on the island, since the coral gardens can be accessed easily from there. I'd say that the biggest draw of the hotel is its location on the mainland, which makes travel to other places easier and cheaper. It's great to be able to walk out of the hotel to other restaurants (although walking is not easy, since there aren't any sidewalks) and to rent bikes and go around the island. I'd recommend biking (use an electric bike) to the beach at Matira Point and then to the town of Vaitape, where there are art galleries and stores. There is also a cash machine there, which is one of the only places you will find one on the island. It's also great that a cab to the airport only costs $25 from the hotel.

Not worth it.

  • DrewH76
  • Feb 22, 2011
We booked an over-water bungalow on the private island for 3 nights. Check in was chaotic and unfriendly. Room was clean enough, but not overly so... lizards were running around inside. Meals at the hotel were horribly overpriced and, marginal at best. There are better local restaurants right across the street for 1/4 the price. Although sounding romantic, being on the private island proved to be more of a hassle whenever we wanted to eat/ do anything.[...].Do not stay here. If you're spending all that money to get to Bora Bora (which, although beautiful, we've decided is a bit over-rated... Moorea and Tahiti are just as nice), go ahead and splurge on something like the Four Seasons, where you know, you won't have to deal with all the stupid issues that the Sofitel had.

The Bora Bora Pearl Resort & Spa

  • Marcelo
  • Nov 26, 2010
The Bora Bora Pearl Resort & Spa is a great hotel, overall. The beach is amazing, really sandy (different from other places in Polynesia where there are so many coral gardens you cannot even walk in barefoot, let alone swim). We stayed in a standard overwater bungalow, and I felt the bungalows are starting to look a little tired around the corners - I stayed in a deluxe OWB at the Manihi Pearl Beach Resort and it had just undergone renovation, felt really fresh). Of course, that is because I pay a great deal of attention to maintenance details. Other than that, it was the best choice within that price range. While there, I had a look at other more expensive properties (Four Seasons, St. Regis, Hilton). Those may be way more expensive than the Pearl, and I was very pleased to realize I made the right choice. Would certainly recommend, and will definitely stay there again.

Papeete Vacation

  • Polynesian Traveler
  • May 2, 2012
Comfortable and pleasant room with a good view but the roar and crashing of the ocean was very loud and constant all night long. Internet was available but only in the lobby and was sporadic at best. The on property restaurant was expensive and only so-so in quality. Staff was friendly and helpful. Property has a large, beautiful pool and good outdoor seating close to the black sand beach. Strong currents in the ocean so only pool swimming recommended.

Tahiti in February

The Radisson is a bit old but has an excellent location. It is surrounded by residential areas and there are no shops or resturants nearby. Be prepared for very high prices in the resturant. The sun is VERY HOT in February even though the air temperature is 86 degrees, it feels much hotter in the sun. The Radisson is a good place to "get away from it all" if that is what you want to do.

Quiet and Accomodating

  • jerseyblondie
  • Mar 8, 2012
Our favorite aspect of the hotel is that it was quiet. There's no late night partying and craziness, and it's a simplistic and relaxing atmosphere. The excursion oppportunities are abundant and yet you can come back to a quiet and peaceful abode. Elegant, modern furnishings, friendly staff, lovely in every way.

This was a nice, clean, modern hotel near Papeete. We stayed one night each at the beginning and end of our Polynesian holiday. It was a great place to "chillax"! Pool was fantastic and views were amazing!

Convenienient location in spades

  • AirMike
  • Jan 27, 2012
It is a bit of a hassle getting your stuff up the hill, if you are walking, but the accommodations are ok and the place is clean. No bargain, but the room is clean and if you get a room on the east side the view is awesome. The A/C is barely adequate, and they keep it off till you get in the room, so you broil when you arrive in the PM. A/C never got the temp below about 75 degrees, but that was acceptable. I do not want to bag on the place too much as the rooms are clean, the showers are fine, and the beds are adequate. Take the bus from town rather than a cab and save a bundle. Bus is about $1.50

Not the ritz, but Nice staff, free parking, fresh croissants in the morning for breakfast. Very miserly on power use. Our room was hot as heck on arrival, and it took and hour for the A/C to be effective.

The hotel is OK to spend 1 o 2 nights as a stopover. It is close to the airport, 5 - 10 min taxi. It is a big hotel; a very different experience from hotels in Moorea, Bora Bora and other French Polynesian islands.
