It's my second time at the Santo Domingo Barcelo and it was quite satisfactory. They charge $10 for Internet 24 hrs. but besides that it's good value. The japanese restaurant is excellent.

The hotel was really nice even better than it looks on the website. The staff was nice except for the guy at the check-in desk. Try to get the deal that includes breakfast because we had to pay for breakfast everyday and it can get a little pricey. Besides that the piano bar was really nice with live music the pool is very nice and the casino is average but something to do. Overall worth the money if you need to be close to the center of the city.

Great location, close to everything, but noisy. Zone Colonial is kind of depressed, lot of store not open. Hotel is not bad, but do bring your ear plugs. Hotel staff is very good, nothing they can do about the noise.

Hotel BQ Is good for the price.

I recently spent 12 days in Santo Domingo for my spring vacation. [...]I felt the hotel I picked was a good choice for the price and I was right with the choice I made. I want to stress that the hotel atmosphere was very nice. The staff was very friendly the food was very good and the hotel location was alright, it would have been better if BQ was closer the beach. I had a good time in BQ. The roof top restaurant called Bianco is very good to relax and also enjoy some good dance music. If your a sun bather their is a pool on the roof so you can eat, drink and eat good food. This made my stay very enjoyable. Their was a down side to my stay in BQ someone got hold of my credit card number and tried to charge items in the hotel while I was there. This is crazy I have never had this happened to me during my travels. My warning message is to let all who read this review to be very careful with your credit card information if you ever stay in BQ. With all that drama I still feel it's a very good hotel for the price if you ever visit Santo Domingo.

The hotel was a great choice. The staff was knowledgable and friendly. The food was awesome. The location was perfect for us since is close to stores and public transportation. The pool was beautiful on the roof with great view. The breakfast was really good!!! We even had a flamenco show for free one night. I would go again if I return to Santo Domingo.

In order to get away with my family, I promised to carry out some very important work while I was gone, by using the internet. I paid the fee for this service but it went down after one day and was not restored even the day after we left. To compound this problem, internet was available only in the main hotel lobby and in the area next to the outdoor bar.
The grounds were excellent... One of the best I have experienced and the staff, especially those in room services and the dining room, were top class. The room was clean but several components were broken and not working well. For example, the aircon was very noisy and the TV which had broken knobs, had no remote control.

Staff is friendly, respectable and helpful. Location is prime as it is close to the Zona Colonial and across street from the malecon. Pool was quiet and room was clean and functional.

Overall comfortable beds. Unable to get our money refunded. We booked thinking the beach wasn't that far away. It's pretty far from the beach so you need a car. About a 5 min drive from la zona colonial, which is a tourist area, walked around and did site seeing for a couple of hours. Couldn't do much since we didn't have a car. Beautiful ocean view. Includes ONE complimentary coffee. Internet cost $6 per day.

Great location in Colonial district. Plenty of places to see and eat in walking distance. Very safe area.
Hotel is in fantastic condition, spotlessly clean, staff friendly and helpful.
Would not hesitate in staying here again and would recommend the hotel to anyone.
Looking forward to a trip back.

The hotel and property as a whole is gorgeuos. The excerise room falls short for a business traveler who would like to excersize during his stay. Food ad bar service are very good but a little on the pricey side. Overall have stayed here many times and will continue to for the moment.

I THINK THE HOTEL IS WELL LOCATED, GOOD VIEW SINCE ALL THE ROOMS HAS AN OCEAN VIEW. VERY CLOSE TO THE GOVERMENT LOCAL AND THE COLONIAL ZONE.IT HAS A NICE POOL BUT THE BREAKFAST WICH IS INCLUDED DONT HAVE MUCH CHANGE DATE TO DATE SINCE I STAYED FOR A WEEK.

My stay at the quality inn was pleasant. The rooms where very clean. The breakfast was excellent, the employees where pleasant. The overall stay at this hotel was excellent. I do recommend it highly.

Water views from my bedroom, Reasonable sized room. WIFI/business centre internet a little expensive. Dining room is fair, well presented, with good service.
Be aware that this is a country where most people (it seemed to me) will have their hand out for cash almost any way they can!

The staff at this hotel was very professional, polite and accommodating...always friendly and eager to help in any language. The location is perfect for a visit to the capital: close to restaurants, casinos, etc. Travel to, and from, the airport takes ~30 minutes by taxi. The hotel is directly across the street from the ocean giving most rooms a great water views. On the negative side: breakfast was excellent; but a bit pricey approximately $20 per person. The hotel is also close to a popular road which makes road noise a little annoying at times. Overall a solid choice!

The front desk attendants were available to change money and dispense information about where to go...I didn't dine in the rather expensive dining area. Instead, I ate at the places in the Colonial Zone and the environs...

This hotel is in the heart of the colonial district (next to El Conde, the primary walking street), and it is easy to walk to all of the historical sites. I stayed on a special discounted rate, so that made it a good value, too. The wi-fi worked great; able to surf the web from my room. Also, I was surprised by the wide selection of tv channels (many English-speaking ones in addition to the Spanish ones). The breakfast at the hotel restaurant was very good. Finally, it was surprisingly quiet given the tourist location. I would give it 4.5 stars; doesn't have the high-end amenities (swimming pool or gym). Overall, a good place to stay.

The hotel was excellent. People from the sport bar with a good knowledge of customer service. The only area to improve is cleaning of the room. No soap and shampoo on the second and third day plus lack of bed cleaning. Maybe a card with a sign that tell "Please dont disturb"

Don Juan Beach Resort is located on the white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters of Boca Chica Beach just 15 km (9 miles) from Santo Domingo Airport and 25 minutes drive to the colonial capital city of Santo Domingo. This beach front resort is reminiscent of an old style fisherman's village nestled within lush tropical vegetation. The highlight of Boca Chica is its 500-meter long reef, which closes off the bay to form what is otherwise known as the world's largest pool.
The All-inclusive packages at the resort include accommodations, taxes, three meals daily and beverages including alcohol, and one hour a day of windsurfing, sail boating, day tennis, bicycling, and SCUBA pool clinic. Additional tank dives and gear rentals are available for an extra fee. The true Caribbean world opens up to both experienced and beginning divers. I enjoyed my 6 day getaway,I was looking for something relaxing,like staying on the beach,and just doing nothing. If you looking for that,thats what you will get,they had a show every night, the staff was very friendly,the food was ok,but for the price I am not complaining.

Redeeming qualities aren't quite enough

It's hard to complain about a place that gives you unlimited food, alcoholic beverages, and sits just steps away from one of the world's most beautiful beaches, but there are certainly some things about Don Juan that I did not particularly like. The food was really quite bad. I'm not sure how one messes up pasta or eggs or rice, but somehow they managed. The variety was wide, but each has one thing in common: absolutely no flavor, or, just plain bad. Being in the capital of the DR, I was expecting some of my favorite Dominican meals. They had none of them! The food was boring, stale, and frankly, quite wasteful. I did catch a bird nibbling on some rice, right out of the serving dish...maybe he enjoyed it. The location was beautiful beachfront, but the street that it's on was pretty sketchy, especially at night. There was an absolute infestation of vendors trying to sell massages, manicures, necklaces, food, everything. I have compassion for these people but they were extremely pushy and didn't stop bothering us for five days straight wherever we went. The staff works very hard and is sometimes friendly. I'm not sure that all of them are particularly fond of Americans. They put on great dance shows at the outdoor theater though. The pools were nice, and the drink were yummy. My only complaint is that all of them were very syrupy sweet, and after five days, I think I may consumed a pound or more of sugar. I'm not sure that I would return to Don Juan, although I don't know how it compares to other all-inclusive resorts of the same price.

This used to be a sister hotel with the top hotel in Santo Domingo (the Sofitel Nicolas de Ovando). We preferred the Hotel Frances because it was more intimate. The service was warm and attentive, the room was very comfortable and quiet, the restaurant and breakfast were good, and the setting was unbelievably charming.

I usually stay at the Marriott family of hotels wherever I go for business travel, but I would say that my stay at this one in Santo Domingo is the best, to date. The staff -- reception, restaurant, bar, etc. -- is wonderful. Overall, I highly (strongly) recommend this hotel for your stay in the city.

safe hotel for solo female traveller

As a young American woman travelling solo, constant cat calls by the Dominicanos can get old pretty quickly. This hotel was a safe haven to relax by the pool and not be constantly on guard. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff kind and helpful. The only downside is that although the neighborhood is safe (mostly residential), it is a bit of a walk from the Zona Colonial.

I was there to mainly visit friends. The Hotel and staff were great. Very nice and helpful. The food was good. This was my first trip to DR and of course staying at this hotel. The only thing that really bothered me was when I made the reservation I asked about people from DR possibly staying with me. [...] the Hotel charged me 30 dollars a day. I didn't like this and truthfully I think it's a bad policy.

the hotel is nice ...very modern...lots to do inside ...very nice pool area...close to alot of shopping and places to eat...the only down fall is i stayed on the 7th floor and there was a club next door blasting music till 3am on friday and saturday. you could hear it...kinda sucks if you need quite like me to sleep. otherwise great place

Hotel I believe only 6 months old. Not many guests. Restaurant had interesting, well presented fare and limited but pleasing wines. Breakfast buffet was very varied and excellent. Very obliging and pleasant staff.

The hotel was very clean and the staff was very friendly. Some of the hotel staff only spoke spanish so sometimes it was difficult to get your questions answered. The pool was beautiful, but at the towel bar (where you are supposed to get towels for use at the pool) I never saw an attendant in the 5 days I stayed there. I just took my hotel room towel to the pool, which was frowned upon by the hotel. Overall, I would stay there again. They did have a casino, but it was never open. The restaurant was lovely and room service was very reasonable. All the food seemed of high quality.

Good deal for a good price

This hotel was in a fantastic location, as it is within walking distance from everything historic you need to see in the colonial zone. The staff were very friendly although sometimes they would stand around watching every movement because it was so quiet. The room had the basics you need, although if you are used to the marriott or other upscale hotels, you might be quite disappointed.

Have stayed in many places in Santo Domingo. This was first time at Hispaniola, and it is fine for economical business travel...especially if most commitments are in the Churchill/Lincoln/Independencia corridors of the city. Spa is good. Pool great. Food better than average. It is time for a remodel of rooms, halls, and probably plumbing. Wi_Fi was free and strong in lobby and pool/bar areas.

The location was excellent. The breakfast was superb! The staff catered to my every need. Fantastic getaway! It did not have a gym but it was not missed--it was a great lazy-days vacation for me!
