Overall my experience was positive. I love the hotel setup and the grounds were beautiful. Service was good and I never had to wait extensively for anything.
The wifi in the lobby was fine but it would be great if there was internet access in the rooms.
The food was pretty good. I felt it was better in the buffet restaurant than the other restaurants.

Riu is a good hotel, well maintained. Rooms are big enough, but beds are very hard, but wide. Staff cames to clean, or refil your drinks when they want, without knocking. One comes with towels, then the cleaner, then the maid who folds beds....people just come in. Restaurants are not so good. Pleanty of food, but not really good. The food is beautifully arranged, but not tastey. Entertainment is very cheese and amature. Every show has hints which aren't done tastfully, without any consideration that there are children around. One week is a bit too long for a such a resort.

Hotel landscaping creates a paradise. Even the basic junior suite is well decorated and spacious. The beach is larger and less congested then many others we saw. Plenty of chairs both on the beach and pool. The japanese restaurant is an awesome experience for an all inclusive and delicious as well. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone who is looking for a medium size resort with a great relaxing atmosphere.

We loved it there. The food was probably 3-4 star but great variety, we hit a different restaurant every night! Only bummer was you needed experience to go windsurfing or on a catamaran but we got over it. great staff - lots to do. Pool was way nicer than all the other resorts we saw as we walked the beach. We'd go back any day.

I would recommend this Hotel. It was clean and the staff were very good. The entertainment staff go out of their way to make your stay awesome.There is no lack of food or drinks. The grounds are well cared for and clean. If I had one complaint is that the rooms need to have a extra blanket, because the rooms are a little cold .

Wonderful Christmas at Riu Bambu

This was our third Riu Hotel and overall we were pleased with it. The rooms were very clean. Like all Riu's, the beds were very firm but we got used to them. One of our rooms smelled a little (I thought mildewy, husband thought the smell was lysol)- but leaving the doors open aired the room out and we slept with the doorsopen each night - enjoying the island breezes.
The beach - beautiful and long - always easy to get a chair. The water was glorious!
The food - the buffet was bountiful - there was always something for everyone to eat and I am a vegetarian. The Christmas eve dinner was lobster!
Everyone enjoyed the drinks!
The cons:
Despite what we were told, you cannot eat and drink at the adjoining properties. Although the other riu resorts are opulent - we thought the Bambu was the prettiest and most relaxing!
My sons (in their twenties) were very disappointed that they had to pay for their drinks at the Pacha nightclub (the Riu disco) !! In Puerta Plata, the wrtistbands got you free drinks there as well.
The resort only restocks the minibar every other day - that is fine as far as sodas go but they only give you two bottles of water. Since we were advised not to drink the tap water, we felt we didn't have enough water to drink in our rooms. They only gave 2 bottles for the room that had 3 paying guests too.
Don't bother with standing in line for the "specialty restaurants"! We always ended up stopping by the buffet afterwards to get something else to eat. This has been the case at all three Riu's we've been to.

It was cheap and we got our money's worth. The worst was the food from the buffet. No variety, every night the same thing to eat. An Italian restaurant in the hotel with only two meals, chicken or salmon with no Italian taste. A Steak House restaurant to our availibility at the Riu Bambu but only 20 places allocated for clients of our hotel. After three attempts we finally got a place in this restaurant. You must arrive at 7:00 am at the entrance of the buffet to make your reservation for the dinner they say, but it is false, you have to be there at least, 20 minutes before. But the Steak House is worth.

The hotel was good. The main buffet restaurant was good. Breakfast was served only until 10, a little bit earlier than we prefered. In order to go to the other restaurants at the hotel you had to wake up really early to make a reservation (at 7 am). I suggest that reservation could be done one day in advance. Besides, the stake house was not good at all. To much waiting for nothing! And we were never able to get reservations for the Italian. The drinks that were served in the hotel were not so good. The wine and beer had water. The rooms were ok, but we had some problems with the air conditioning, which were noisy. The first days the room smelt moistful. Nightlife near the hotel was not good. Better go with a big group of friends!!
Hotel didn't have Internet free anywhere, not even in the reception area. Too bad!

absolutely beautiful hotel and location. one thing that caught my attention waa that room service was not included in the all inclusive package we purchased. also finding people that speak English was rare but we still managed to communicate. some of the staff members weren't as friendly as i thought they should ne but again that maybe because of our language barrier. other than those minor things the resort was beautiful and the food delicious ( i highly recommend the Japanese). also be sure to reserve at the restaurants if you want somewhere to eat for the night. overall great place !

Arrived Christmas eve to a wonderful gala dinner
Entire staff outstanding.
This is the best resort for children from 2 to 10 years.
Wear running shoes, the floors after a rain are slippery.
No internet in the rooms.
After the third day, the buffet food is average and the
restaurants are not outstanding.
Beach is on the ocean, and it is always windy!

lost a whole day of 5 day stay

we lost a whole day of vacation after getting to hotel, only to find out they were over booked by 40 people. We sat in hot lobby till they sent us 20min away to condo. 4 hrs later we were able to get a drink and very little too eat. They said we could go back to hotel next day around 1pm. Very disappointed as i traveled with a sr. and a disable person. Not to mention we now only had 4 days left. The hotel it self was ok. The staff was excellant.

DR is beautiful, the hotel grounds, atmosphere, pools were all very nice. Except for the Front Desk service, all other service was top notch. A few dollar tips each meal or after a night in the bar goes a long way to get real personal service. All the staff are super friendly, many speak good English and all are attentive, the only reason you might wait for a drink is because of the lineup of other guests at the bar (again, tip and a waiter will always be there with another drink). The resort is older than some, we were with friends that have tried 3 or 4 others .. we had an excellent room with jacuzzi tub and walkin in shower for 2 .. Bldg 14. Bldg 9 - 14 are newer. If you want older colonial, more traditional look and feel the other Bldgs provide this, just the bathrooms are not upgraded. Maid service excellent. Food is the same on the buffett everyday, with only a few new dishes and a different roast. It got boring after the 5th day, but if you do Al a Cart reservations the Brazilian grill is amazing. The Aqua restaurant also serves breakfast and lunch with out reservation, so nicer place to eat for the atmosphere than the big hall. February is considered winter season and the beach was always very windy, not a light breeze. Beautiful white sand beaches, seaweed is being raked all day to keep it clean. A few things to watch out for, a Big No Thanks to the men in white polo shirts and black pants, they want you to do a 2 hour orientation to buy timeshares and you get a bottle of local rum at the end. Unless you're interested just keep walking away .. very pushy. Vendors on the beach selling excursions get annoying, but no doubt it is everywhere. Lastly, drink options are limited, local beer, and lots of slushy drinks or rum cocktails. All in all, if you just want to hang out on the beach, or by a pool and soak up the sun Be Live is fine, the people make up for the lack of Included amenities.

Très beau complexe, chambres spacieuses et personnel accueillant, spa magnifique, mais:
1) le personnel au niveau des restaurants en fait trop et cela manque totalement de naturel
2) la nourriture "internationale" était servie en abondance, mais qualité moyenne. Eviter le restaurant mexicain qui est inmangeable.
3) Les activités du soir restent amateures et le casino est bof bof, sans ambiance.
En gros parfait pour la farniente.
Je conseille la découverte des alentours en 4x4 (proposé dans le pack de 1500 dollars offert)

This resort has alot to offer.......maybe too much. The rooms, restaurants, pools, bars and staff were excellent.......but everything was too far from the room. There were trams running constantly, on a 5 - 10 minute schedule, but the speed bumps and length of time to reach the destination was annoying. The beach sand is incomparable to any I have experienced before. Although there were many facilities and activities for kids, I don't think many kids would appreciate all of the restaurants and bars.

Majestic Elegance Punta Cana

I was a little reluctant at first being that this was my first time in Punta Cana. I'm quite suspicious by nature so I researched several hotels before picking the Majestic Elegance. This hotel seemed very nice and the bad reviews were a minimum compared to others so I booked there. And being that it was my first time out of the country, I didn't expect the hotel to be a 5star as it claimed...
Honestly, it was a 5star hotel. Fantastic. My wife and I didn't go with any pretense just with thoughts of relaxation. I must admit the arrival in Punta Cana airport was a little confusing and the language barrier didn't help nor did the frenzy of men trying to grab your bags and take them to their taxi. However, once you get through that mess and in the hotel it was smooth sailing. I upgraded my room to a jr. suite when I booked online and it was definitely worth the extra $50. A minibar, jacuzzi, deck, it was great. And it was very clean. The only bad part was the toilet, it was square and just weird. The seat was broken, too, but it was fixed after the first maid service. I didn't even tell them! That's when I knew it was going to be a good vaca.
It was. 87* everyday with a warm tropical breeze. White sand beaches. My wife and I went from the room to the beach, to the pool, the eat, back to the beach, to the room for a nap, then to dinner, and then to the bars.
So much fun, the people were terrific especially the MC's and their promo team who kept the fun going all day and night without being annoying. They had some very good musical performances, the shows were B class, but still solid entertainment.
I think that they can improve the overall experience by providing the promotional team the ability to change into different clothing for specific performances. This team worked their butts off and put on entertaining promotions and shows al day all night wearing the same or similar clothes - jeans and a staff T shirt. Let's Go Management! Get into the game and invest some money into your team!!! I don't remember their names except for their nick names - skinny mini, coffee, chocolate, and Sosa. These guys were excellent, now invest in them!
Everything was great, but there's always room for improvement so I give it 4 stars

The overall facility was nice. We loved the Peacocks that was roaming around the facility.
We loved the facility. It was beautiful and a short walk to the beach. The facility was fairly large and took a few minutes to get around, but that was fine. We are on vacation, not in a rush to go anywhere. They even had a "train" (truck outfitted to look like a train) that would make stops around the facility to help with the distance.
The food wasn't great, but wasn't bad either. The buffet menu had its highlights but much of it was mediocre. The specialty restaurants was definitely better.
The only thing we didn't love was the room. There was a musty smell in the bathroom and a moldy smell in the room. Also, the shower was small and cramped and was definitely uncomfortable for 2 adults.
I expected a better room for what we paid. If the price was lower (we went in January) than the value would have been better.

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this resort. We had read mixed reviews, so we were not sure what to expect. We stayed at the Reserve, which is the newer resort. We were not disappointed. Our room was fantastic and while this section of the resort is a little farther from the beach it is not a difficult walk and one can always take a shuttle that is easily accessible. The staff was very helpful. There were many food choices to accommodate different tastes and diets. We enjoyed live music nightly in the lobby of the original resort, which we found to be relaxing. There were plenty of places to get comfortable throughout the resort, including the private beach and pool for Reserve guests and both lobbys. We only had 4 nights and we went just for relaxation and this was the perfect location for us. Everyone's job was to make sure we were happy and had everything we needed. They did it well.

Overall resort is beautiful, nice location, wonderful beach and pools. Close to the beach. Staff is friendly, clean rooms, there is a lot of entertainment in the resort . The worst part is the food - low quality and cheap!

The Hotel was very nice, clean, roomy, and overall very nice. The Beach was beautiful, nice pools, good entertainment, and plenty to do. Cons: Food and drinks. All the drinks tasted pretty much the same. The buffet was not good, although there is a large variety of foods to choose from on the buffet. I found the food did not agree with me not to mention, I didn't think it was very tasty. I ate from the Pasta Bar daily. Most of the other restaurants require reservations-make sure you get those. The staff was nice overall, although not everyone speaks good English. If you know any Spanish at all, the staff appreciates you trying. The vacation was nice, but not somewhere I would go back to.

we just returned, and cannot say enough about the lovely Bavaro Princess,. The grounds were beautiful and the staff always helpful The language barrier was frustrating at times, but we should have brushed up on our Spanish before the trip.
We upgraded to the Platinum level which got us closer to the beach and top shelf liquor. The beach was just beautiful. Snorkeling wasnt so great, not the variety of fish we had hoped for.
Overall, a lovely week in a lovely resort. We would go again!

Everything was GREAT. The food was good and there was PLENTY of it! Staff was very friendly and accommodating, but I feel there should have been more people that spoke English.Beach and pools (2)were great and clean. The only problem was trying to get a hut or a lounge chair. Although the hotel asks that you respect other guests and limit the time you hold a chair/hut, there were days that we saw chairs being held ALL DAY and the people didn't return for many,many hours.Transportation around the property was also good,door to door service every 7 mins!The only negative about our vacation had nothing to do with the hotel. Many times I got VERY upset the way the people BEGGED for business/money, even young children (they broke our hearts and my boyfriend felt the need to give each of them $5 and they still chased us down to buy their goods(junk)making it quite difficult to say "NO"!!!

Disclaimer: What I say here seems to be the same on all other all inclusive hotels. It was my first all inclusive holiday which I don't plan to repeat. For what you pay you can get much, much better food and drinks outside of the hotel.
About food/drinks:
- Buffet was always perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nothing to complain about.
- Thematic restaurants on 2 were good (Steak House and Mexican), other ones I could get better outside for 15 bucks.
- Beer is good but drinks were disgusting, cheap vodka, whiskey and other stuff, if you want better drinks you needed to pay or be part of the Privilege program they don't stop offering.
- Coconut watter, offered only on Saturdays at 4pm, seriously?? Coconut trees all around where you can easily get hit by a coconut falling from a tree.
- Wine, I'd call that vinegar, even the waiter said, among the worse this is the best we have. But of course you could get a better one for 22 bucks (cheapest).
Staff:
- Always smiling, happy, helpful. Not sure if they were waiting for tips or what. But I have to say they made me fell comfortable there.
- The hotel is part of the H10 group, they try to sell their holiday package all the time it's all about brainwash what could steel 3 hours from your beach/sun time. I don't by anything without searching carefully, and the BUY IT NOW or you will loose this offer doesn't work with me.
Hotel:
Cozy, colorful, well designed and maintained. A friend was on the expensive Riu Palace, very fancy but not as nice and cozy as the Ocean Blue.
The all inclusive stuff:
We spent 3 of the 7 days we stayed there on tours around DR, what means we had to pay for food and drinks outside while the hotel had no cost with us. So as I mentioned earlier, It was my first and last All Inclusive holiday. I will keep booking B&B hotels and eat somewhere where I have to pay for good food and not get the cheap food/drinks after paying.
Overall it's a nice hotel and I recommend it if you don't bother with what I have commented above.

The Hotel was great. The one problem I had was with H10 Hotels. They pressured us to buy some vacation points that cost anywhere from $9,000 on up. They said the ordeal would last less than an hour and it lasted over 2 hours. Our family was on a pleasure vacation and I did not want or need to be hassled. Due to this I will not go back. It is too bad because this place is the best place that we have ever stayed.

As a super senior I usually enjoy being amid younger people----and on this mini-vacation my companion and I really stuck out like sore thumbs. Despite the age disparity we had a very good time and rather enjoyed our honorary titles of PAPA & MAMA. We also, as Americans, seemed to be very much in the minority with little English being spoken around us.

All I wanted was a sunny, reasonably priced getaway with my 20 somethings daughters. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the ambience of the punta cana princess. The rooms were spacious, albeit dated. But, they were kept very clean. I was prepared for mundane buffet meals, but every night was a different theme with surprisingly delicious food. My favorite night was Dominican night, complete with roast pig. We tried a variety of fresh fruit I had never seen in the US. The best part of the week was the extrordinary personal service. We were always greeted with a smile and an Hola, even from the chefs.

Princess was a very comfortable and clean place, very nice and quiet. The food was very average, you can always find a couple of things you like to eat at all the places too eat. Entertainment lacked a little bit but not bad, Overall a 8 out of 10 on my scale. I think there should be more american speaking people working there and menus in the resturants should be more plain to english speaking culture.

Overall, our stay at NOW was okay. There was some confusion at our check-in, with a staff member asking for our voucher from [...]to confirm our stay. We had print outs of our itinerary, confirmation emails, etc. from [...]but no voucher. We had to pay to use the business center to contact [...]and confirm there was no voucher needed, just the itinerary and reservation number which we had already presented. We eventually confirmed everything with the front desk, but it was an annoying way to start our vacation. The food was okay - Spice was our favorite and worth the wait. We both started to have some stomach troubles towards the end of our stay, and seemed to be related to what we ate. The drinks were good, but it is impossible to even get a little tipsy no matter how much you drink.The staff was friendly and helpful (other than the check-in problems), the rooms were clean and nice. It was a little unnerving to find no door between the bathroom and the rest of the room with only a frosted glass door closing off the toilet, but you get used to it.We para-sailed and used the catamarans from the beach - and recommend both. We arrived on a Sunday and left on a Saturday, and found the resort more enjoyable during the week when it was less busy. As it got closer to the weekend, the pool was packed and the resort in general started to feel crowded. However we never had a problem finding a shaded spot on the beach, regardless of what time we headed out.

Experience was overall very good except that they sent us to their worst possible room outside the Ambar section in front of a bus stop for the first night. We had to argue in order to get a good room beginning with the second night and we did. You need to avoid a room on the main street because there's quite a bit of traffic (buses, delivery trucks, etc.). If you have a room inside the Ambar section (the garden side), it is as close to paradise as you will get.

Upon check in Ambar did not have room available for 1st night reservation. Sent us to sister hotel. Then we had to switch again the next day. Not convenient at all. Beach was extremely crowded. Had to get up early to reserve chair at beach (or pool). Grounds beautiful, rooms clean, food good, and friendly staff. Remaining vacation enjoyable. In future I may pick other resort simply for the overbooking error.

On this return visit to Paradisus, we were surprised to arrive and the hotel had no record of our reservations. We eventually got the room we had asked for but there was a good degree of run around. Staff seems to have trouble dealing with a big number of guests. Beach and bar staff are the best.
We love the all inclusive but having some restaurants off limits is a bit lame.
Once in our room our vacation was absolutely fantastic.

L'hôtel est très bien placé par rapport à la plage, les bâtiments sont beaux et confortables et les jardins magnifiques, mais, lorsqu'il pleut, ce qui n'est pas rare, il y a des goutières dans certains couloirs.
Piscine vaste, agréable et pas encombrée.
Il est nécessaire de se munir de dollars, un euro étant pris pou un dollar.
Il vaut mieux s'inscrire au service "royal", sinon on ne bénificie pas réellement des possibilités de l'hôtel.

The staff is extremely nice except at the front desk, who is normally busy and probably inundated with unreasonable requests from guests that forget this is a cheap hotel.
Our room was very clean, but had some minor issues. There were some bugs, and our water pressure wasn't great in the shower.
The food/waitstaff was good for breakfast, just okay for lunch and excellent at the specialty restaurants for dinner.
I suspect that the liquor was watered down quite a bit, but we put in the extra effort to make up for it.
Bavaro seemed to be the best choice for us, since Palace only got one exclusive restaurant/pool. I don't think we would've paid extra for the nicer room assuming that that's also part of it.
This was my second trip to Punta Cana. I went to Ocean Blue & Sand in 2006. This hotel was much better than that one, but I suspect they have all gotten much better in the past 5 years.

This resort was superb. The staff was helpful and attentive. The only minor complaints I have is the beds were very hard and uncomfortable, and the shopping experience next to the beach was very forceful and extremely annoying to the point where they basically pushed you into their shops. Scary actually. But the resort itself was more than I expected. First class all the way

Hotel was very good, but the bathroom were very terrible specially the shower and tiles had lots of mold.Shower needs a closing door all the water spills on the floor. The rest of the room was perfect, service was excellent Some of the staff were trying to sign up to visit their other property, they were very annoying everyday so do not talk to them or they will bug until you go home. Food was very good, the buffet was excellent, some of the food they will make it at your taste.

This is the first time I have even traveled outside the U.S., so take my review with a grain of salt, but everything was extremely nice. The staff was super friendly and didn't change their level of service whether you tipped or not. The restaurants were all fantastic! My personal favorites were the mexican, japanese, and seaside grill restaurants. Drinks flowed all day without any problems at the bar. My only minimal complaints are that the rooms were extremely humid, at times making everything feel a bit damp, and that room service takes a while to arrive. Aside from these minor qualms this was fantastic.

Second Excellence Experience

My wife and I had stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres in 2009 so we decided to try one of their other resorts. Punta Cana's resort is not as new so we had that in mind before we got there. The staff was just as friendly and accomodating and there were more activities offered on-site. The food, however, was not as consistant as at Playa Mujeres which was one of the few disappointments. Golf was not as accessible either.
Our overall experience was very good, and would have been "Excellente", had we not been to one of their other resorts.

First time at all-inclusive

We stayed at Excellence for 5 nights from January 3 to January 8. We selected this resort based on reviews we had read online and because it is an adult only resort. When we arrived we were warmly greeted at the front entrance, checked in, and were shown to our room. As soon as we opened the door we were hit with the strong musty smell several other reviewers have noted. When we got in we immediately opened the patio door and the main door and let fresh air through which seemed to help a lot. We had one of the dated rooms on the third floor in block 4. It was very clean, but needed some attention.
The mattress was quite uncomfortable, and the pillows and bed linens were very low quality. I expected much better. There were also problems with the bathroom including low lighting levels above the sink and in the shower, and the whirlpool tub drain stopper would not seal so you could not fill the tub with water. Also, it looked like there was a shelf in the shower at one time that had broken off and was never replaced, so you were left with trying to balance soap and shampoo on the faucet handle or set it on the floor.
Based on our service upon arrival, I was expecting top-notch attention during our stay. Unfortunately that was not the case. Most of the bar staff seemed pretty good, but the restaurant staff, in general, were less than average. I understand the language barrier, but it was much more than that. Several dishes that our party ordered came out wrong. Asking for a description of a menu item is useless. Our waiter at Barcelona was just rude. I was really surprised there was not a higher level of service here. There were exceptions of course and a few of the staff were great but most were not.
Restaurants seemed to vary pretty widely in quality of food. Toscana for breakfast and lunch were basically what you would expect from a buffet. The juice bar was kind of fun with some unusual options. We enjoyed our dinners at Spice and Agave, but our favorite was Café Isabelle. However, we were a party of 4 and had to wait almost 2 hours for a table! We were not even seated in the restaurant, but in the courtyard. This restaurant is definitely tailored to couples. We thought the food was very good, but very slow in getting to the table.
The spa is definitely a highlight of this resort. It is very clean and modern with professional staff. Do take advantage of the hydrotherapy if you have the time. The spa services were well worth the time and money.
The pools were beautiful and well maintained and the swim up bar was a fun experience. The beach is also well kept and cleaned and groomed every night. There is a lot of garbage floating around in the water however. You will see a lot of it on the beach right outside the resort if you venture out. There are also persistent vendors just outside the resort property so if you don’t want to be hassled, stay on the resort beach.
Because this was our first experience at an all-inclusive resort, I would probably not stay here again. I would try another resort in another location for a new experience.

The amenities were great along with the location of the hotel. My room was clean everyday and the room was comfortable but they do have a light smell. But i was only in my room to shower and sleep so that didn't bother me that much. The cleaning staff and the bartenders were good and the hotel was a great value.

Overall the place was ok, the service was ok as well. The rooms could've been way better, I was moldy, not sure if thats a carribean thing.. The best thing about the hotel was the food and the shows at night Great... Oh before I forget DO NOT leave your stuff out of the safe the hotel provides my disposable contacts were stolen by the housekeeper. SMH.. too bad for her she won't be able to use them becasue they were prescribed for ME!!!! idoit!! overall if you go on vacation for the rooms don't go there!!! I actually enjoyed my self because I booked excursions and didn't spend a lot of time in the room only to sleep. Ohh and I also felt like I was in a strip club I would be giving singles out left and right, I found out if you tip a lot you get better service. :)
