A paradise in Manuel Antonio

  • Eva Z
  • Apr 4, 2012
Costa Rica has been on my list of places to visit for almost ten years. I finally decided to go and I chose Manuel Antonio because it's one of the highest rated national parks in the world. I wasn't disappointed - the park and the beaches were amazing! But this review is about the hotel. Here are the good things. The hotel is very beautiful, it's on top of a hill and has an amazing view. My room was amazing, big, clean and cool. The amenities are good, the staff is very friendly. The pools are awesome, especially the one by the suites. There's a trail that's a part of the resort and it's great. I saw howler monkeys and capuchin monkeys and countless lizards all around the hotel. There's a tennis court, mini-golf, a gym (all free to the visitors) and a spa (not free). The food was okay. Breakfast was included and I took full advantage of that. There are several restaurants at the resort, but I only ate at three. The best one by far is La Fragata. And the view is breathtaking. There are two ways to get to the beach. There's a small beach close by you can walk to called Biensanz and a big beach with big waves that's close to Manuel Antonio National Park. You need to take a bus there. It's free and it leaves from the hotel every hour after 8 am. Now the bad. I left my wallet unattended and had some money stolen. The hotel manager assured me that this isn't something that happens often and that they were truly sorry. They even launched an investigation. I was also told I would be refunded the money. However, when I checked out there wasn't a refund on my account and I never got any more details on what happened. I didn't want to press the issue. But I did learn the lesson: put everything in the safe! This also goes for the beach, don't bring any valuables with you. Hope this was helpful!

The views were wonderful. The wildlife was so fun to watch. The staff was sooo pleasant, friendly and helpful. The room was huge. It was a suite, bedroom, sitting area, and balcony. The bathroom was a jungle in itself. Great stay and will not soon be forgotten.

Top-notch attention to detail; constant attention from the well-trained yet unobstrusive staff. The killer-views from the Luna Restaurant veranda was dreamy: treetops & long beach landscape bordered with dark green mountains Day-trips were effortlessly arranged. River rafting on Savegre River, Ocean kayaking & snorkeling, priceless snorkeling expedition to Isla del Cano was incredible, included a stop @ Corcovado National Park. A fantastic experience!

Magical and Enchanting

  • suzieintheoldpueblo

This resort is Heaven on Earth. Where else are you personally greeted by one of the owners, and like Cheers, everybody knows your name? It is like lifestyles of the rich and famous without the yachts and private jets. The views are spectacular, and you have a private concierge assigned to schedule your tours and spa treatments. My room had been upgraded to a deluxe suite, with a living room, dining room, huge bedroom with a gigantic bed, and a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. Watch the sun set form the restaurant while you sip on happy hour priced cocktails and some of the tapas (my favorite was the ceviche). If you can get up early, don't miss the nature reserve tour (complimentary) on the property. Danny has such great ojos (eyes) that see everything, and he'll help you take photos your friends will envy. If you only have time for a couple of tours, I recommend the Canopy ziplining tour and the Manuel Antonio National Park Tour. We saw a variety of monkeys, a Toucan, bats and sloths. Breakfasts are amazing, with the best coffee, fresh fruits and breads, and choices like the Costa Rican Breakfast: A delicious dome of local carmelized plantain strips, stuffed with steaming Costa Rican Gallo Pinto (black beans and rice in a blend of sauteed onions, sweet peppers and cilantro). It includes 2 eggs any style, with sour cream and corn tortilla wedges. You must be 16 or older to stay here.

Description
Located in Manuel Antonio, a veritable treasure chest of natural beauty, the hotel is surrounded by lush tropical rain forest, inviting soft sand beaches, and nearby rafting rivers. All rooms include a fully stocked mini bar, custom king, queen or double size beds and ocean or jungle views. You won't find television or CNN in your room, but rather the sounds of nature and the beauty of the tropical flora n fauna just beyond your private balcony. Again, each room is designed to help minimize its impact on the natural habitat. Si Como No uses well water for gardening and maintenance, Bio-digesters for sewage, a gray water plant for laundry, biodegradable products for housekeeping, and city water for guest and employee usage. A Bocashi compost program utilizes waste from food preparation, and the hotel donates all glass, plastic and aluminum products to a local women's auxiliary in Quepos (ASOMUFAQ) each month. Si Como No utilizes solar panels to heat water along with back up "on demand" instant gas water heaters. Double insulated windows and ceilings, plus natural canopy shade factors help reduce energy demands and maintain natural comfort values for the hotel guests and employees. Discreetly integrated into this tropical paradise is Si Como No. Proudly occupying the most idyllic hilltop in Manuel Antonio, this award-winning Eco-designed Resort & Spa provides its own signature version of "barefoot luxury" to all its guests. From Hotel Si Como No, you can visit nearby beaches, the National Park and mangroves. Not to mention, the hotel's own Wildlife Nature Exhibits, which are adjacent to the property. Guests also enjoy a variety of water sports and local shopping, including the hotel's Gift Shop & Art Gallery. Founded in 1992 by Eco-vision, S.A., Hotel Si Como No has been a shining example of the global Eco-tourism movement ever since it opened its doors. As such, the hotel is a unique blend of the country's incredible bio-diversity and the deeply rooted cultural values of the Costa Rican people. An active member of many planet-saving conservation programs, Si Como No practices what has come to be called "sustainable hospitality." SEE. From the exotic wildlife of the magical ecosystems to the nightlife of Quepos, there are so many sights to behold. SEA. From the breathtaking ocean views available from every room to the golden sand beaches of Manual Antonio just down the road, the warm waters of the Pacific beckon you. SI."Yes." It's the word you'll hear over and over from the warm and engaging Costa Rican staff as they delight in honoring your every request.

Best place to stay

  • privado
  • Apr 16, 2012
This was our first visit to Manuel Antonio (2nd time in Costa Rica). This condo/hotel is the nicest place in the area, hands down. The hotel is at a high elevation, located on the main road-- however, from the entrance on the main road, the property slopes downward toward the ocean paralleling the road toward the Parador. There are several good places to eat within walking distance. We rented a car, however, taking the bus from this hotel is very convenient (we did it one day). It stops near the entrance of Los Altos and takes you to Espadilla Beach (the public beach), the National Park or even all the way to Quepos for 150 colones (about 40 cents). There is a small grocery store not far away. The accommodations are fantastic. If you want a lot of space, you'll have it: three beautifully appointed bedrooms and bathrooms. The living area and kitchen were well-appointed. The kitchen could have used more utensils, but for having snacks or light meals it is adequate. The restaurant "Karolas" on site is open-air and has a lovely hilltop view of the ocean over the pool area. The breakfast included in our room rate was great (eggs, rice/beans, pancakes, fruit, juice, coffee). We had dinner one evening and the food was good and the service very good. The pool is clean and a good size with plenty of chairs and umbrellas. There are two hot-tub-like pools, as well as a shallow pool suitable for little children. There is a bar at the pool and you can also order food from the restaurant. For the best view, request a room in the side of the building away from the road and purchase the highest floor you can afford. We were satisfied with the location of our room third floor in the building closer to the road (we could see the ocean over the parking area), however a prettier view would have been from a higher floor or from the other side of the building. We loved this hotel and would definitely stay here again.
