An incredible breakfast buffet, high Victorian ceilings, pleasant staff and conveniently located. Room was very warm but public areas and lobby were chilly in January. Our room had no view but a quick duck outside rewarded one with all the view you could want

A good value-for-money hotel in

  • ROBERT
  • Oct 24, 2010
A good value-for-money hotel in a great location. While rooms are large and the 'original' floor boards have been retained, it is time for the floors to be upgraded (for health and safety) and some furniture should be replaced. Staff assistance in the main lobby area was very good. Room service was not so good. A good range of food was provided at breakfast but the 'hot' food was often too cold to enjoy. Other food areas for lunch/dinner etc were very disappointing.

Great value in the Bund

  • Deloryan
  • Apr 24, 2012
Stayed five nights and were able to get to all of Shanghai's attractions easily from the hotel. Within walking distance of the pedestrian mall, Bund and subway. Hotel has a lot of old character even though it is a bit dated in some aspects. We loved the antique furniture in the hallways. English was limited at the front desk but we managed fine. We couldn't get the room to cool down enough. Not sure of the AC was on since it was cool outside.

The entrance and lobby and elevators smelt really badly of probably rotting carpet. The rooms on the riverside have great views. Reception was very slow - understaffed. The reception couldn't find our bookings at check in and it took an hour to sort out. They wanted us to pay for a night until thery could contact [website] the next day, even though we had printouts of the booking and receipt for payment
