Budget-friendly courtyard-style hotel near the Forbidden City The Days Inn Forbidden City Beijing has a proud history. The hotel was once the sprawling courtyard complex of a well-known warlord. Today the hotel's 160 rooms provide a peaceful rest stop for travelers weary from sightseeing at the nearby Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, or shopping on Wangfujing Street. Guests can park for free -- a rarity in Beijing. Highlights Convenient location near the Forbidden City and Tiananmen SquareFree parkingFree high-speed Internet Rooms The 160 modest-sized rooms stick to the basics: white linens, beige carpet and curtains. All rooms come with a workstation, mini-bar, safe, flat-screen television, and free high-speed Internet. The budget single rooms, in the basement, go for a cheaper rate than rooms on other floors. Features This hotel's location is its prime selling point. A ten-minute walk takes guests to several of Beijing's most famous landmarks, including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the National Theater. Shopping choices abound on nearby Wangfujing Street, and two convenient subway stations provide easy access to the rest of Beijing. this is a great location, near sights, shopping and restaurants. its clean and most of the staff is willing to help, and help you book tours of great wall, etc. the restaurant downstairs, while a bit pricey for lunch, is convenient and a good value for breakfast. If you venture to other parts of the city to go to bars or restaurants using cabs, know that the cab drivers will try to rip you off (80-100 rmb) to get back to this location, even when it only was 25 to get there...

Our room was very comfortable and immaculately maintained, with frequent housekeeping and turndown serivce. We used the concierge to arrange airport pickup and also a day trip to the Great Wall. Both were first class and comfortable. We also ate dinner in the two main restaurants and had terrific meals. The location is central Beijing and a great base for exploring the city.

Great Location!

In Beijing, it is paramont that a hotel be near a metro line because of heavy traffic. This hotel is in a great location right outside of the Metro #2 Line. It is also easy to catch a taxi as it is near the center. The amenities of the hotel are okay. It is bit of worn here and there. But given the rate I got, I'd say it was the best value anywhere in Beijing for a 4* hotel. I would stay in this hotel again if the rate remains as attrative as it was.

It is next to a major subway station, so finding my way around was not difficult. The hotel is a bit older, but well kept. Overall, it was very good.

Excellent Hotel for families!

  • TheTravelBug
  • Nov 24, 2011
After much internet research we finally decided on Lee Garden Service Apts because of the price and the fact that we could get a 2 bedroom apartment. When we arrived and checked-in, we could not have been happier with the hotel!! Its in a very nice part of town, right on the main street. Close to subways, buses, shopping malls, and snack street (if you are hungry for a fried bug or something). The valets were always friendly and helpful, and we got 4 bottles of water each day in our room. Having seperate sleeping rooms made all the difference because we were traveling with a baby who needed to go to bed early. Also, the room had a tiny washer/dryer which really helped keep our packing to a minimum. The baby crib they supplied was not too great, pretty rickity. The room key had a $600 US deposit! That was a bit much I think! Other than that, we loved this hotel and would absolutly recommend it to anyone!

The only complaint with the room is that the AC didn't cool the room down enough. Other than that the hotel was great. The staff was very friendly and sppoke excellent English. The accomodations weren't lavish, but were perfect for what we needed. We had plenty of room to spread out with our kids, it was very clean, and everything was in good repair and cosmetically in good shape. The kitchen was also a nice addition so we could leisurely enjoy our breakfast. The walk to the Forbidden City took about 15 minutes, and there were also plenty of restaurants and shops in close proximity. The subway was three blocks away which made it very easy to avoid the traffic and head a little further away.

Ok - there may be better appointed or more luxurious, but it doesn't get better than the Kapok. Fantastic location near the Forbidden City, Tianamen and the shopping streets, only about 2.5 KM to the silk market. The staff is fantastic. I travel the world for business and have found none better! Restaurant was quite good and a good value as well. When I am in Beijing, I don't even look at other places. I thought this hotel locates very near Beijing International Airport. But, it takes about 20-25 minutes by the hotel's shuttle bus to the airport. If the close distance or the fast access to the airport matter to your choice of this hotel, it is NOT recommended. Otherwise, it might be ok.

The hotel has a cool, hip vibe which you notice as soon as you enter the lobby and hear Buddha Bar music playing over the speakers. The decor is upscale and very tasteful. There are 6 24" Macs in the lobby for anyone to use. The room had an iPod ready clock radio. Free wifi throughout the hotel. The hotel is new, so everything was very clean and nice. It has a 4 star feeling at 2 star prices. The staff spoke quite good English. The location is central to everything you want to do in Beijing, from work to touring to nightlife. Subway stops are 10 minutes by foot. Taxis plentiful day and night. Highly recommended.

Great character hotel and highly recommended for those seeking a true Beijing experience. At first appearance it may seem a little “rustic” but the level of service is excellent even if the level of facilities does not match an internationally branded hotel chain. However, it at least has some soul and you will certainly remember you visit to the hotel and to Beijing all the more for staying here.

good connection for public transport; at the junction of two metro lines (2, 5). Hotel staff is always very helpful with the translation of adresses and other stuff. A lot of different Restaurants and one small grocery within the hotel (at little bit overpriced compared to outside restaurants IMO). The standard rooms are quite small and furnished in a rather decent way; however they look quite clean. The breakfast offers a wide variety of different food stuff (western style; no chinese food). For my taste a little bit too american, but tasty. Make sure that you dont arrive at peak times during breakfast (around 7:30/8 am) during tourist season (september/oktober) since you have to wait a little while (5-10 minutes) for a free desk.

The location was ideal for a brief stopover. There were department store aplenty to grab something to eat, only 20 minutes away from the airport with taxi fare costing less than 100RMB each way. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and room service was adequate. It wasn't spectacular but the Novotel in Chongwenmen did all the essentials rather well. Certainly won't feel short changed after you stay here.

The Hotel was very close to the Forbiden City, was a few blocks and you get there. You can also go by a taxi if you don`t want to walk. It takes several minutes to get to the entrance. Besides this the Hotel is in a quiet place and the room was confortable and very clean.

Surprisingly good

Lets be serious a hotel at this price is never going to match the international giants, however we used for a four day business trip and were pleased with the value and overall standard. Out of the way and sometimes difficult to get taxis to take you too, but this was overcome with the sheer helpfullness of the staff despite language barriers. Clean, and reasonible breakfast. Perfect for a short stay and with a budget price tag, We would stay here again and would reccommend, but if you bear in mind its location and the lack of 5 star amenities you should not be disappointed with your choice

Beijing Hotel

The hotel is not close to the Beijing airport as website might give you the impression. Also, they don;t offer airport/hotel/airport shuttle as they say in the website. Taxi will charge you CNY60.00 from airport to hotel. To get worse, it's far from Beijing city and taxis will take you there for CNY50 or CNY60, but you will not find drivers willing to take you back to the hotel because they say "it's too far" unless you pay them CNY100.00. Things get worst: the staff barely speak English, non-smocking rooms smell like an ashtray and the breakfast buffet is "poor" to say the least. Rooms are so thin I could hear the gentleman next door caught the whole night, which is very annoying if you are trying to beat the jetleg.

A Totally Beautiful and Friendly Environment

  • Jon144

My room was right out of an architectural design magazine. Beautiful and functional beyond my expectations. The staff was helpful and friendly, clearly making an effort. There's also an in-house "Smart" line to call for help with computer issues. I ate at the dinner buffet; not inexpensive, but so much variety of excellent dishes that it turned out to be a good value too.
