This is a very nice place on the main drive with all the other nice hotels. Not a real island feel to it but the staff is great and it is a very relaxing place. Everything you need is within walking distance and bus stops right out front. Great beach and snorkeling and a very nice pool.

Well-managed hotel with basic but clean and well-kept rooms

Not beach front but an easy 5 min. walk from amazing 7 Mile Beach. Hotel restaurant is famous and rightly so. Great place for lunch and dinner in informal surroundings. However, expect a long wait if no prebooking made as venue quite small. Breakfast adequate but basic. Hotel reception good with the exception of one French trainee who repeatedly sniggered at the customers.

If you are looking for the best of the best, this is not your hotel. If you are looking for a good price and a great spot with a 30 second walk down a path to a beautiful beach this is your spot. I was very impressed with their rooms and the hotel is a short walk from great nearby bars and restaurants. I did not rent a car and didn't really need to get a taxi once. Definitely recommend!

Our room was large, spacious and clean. The onsite restaurant, Stingers, was very good. The hotel was not located on the beach but was a very short walk to a small beach that was shared with the Marriott Hotel. The staff was just okay. They were polite but did not go out of their way to assist us with our plans. We will not stay at this hotel on future visits as we prefer more amenities and an on the beach location.

Morritts Tortuga was conveniently located to the snorkeling places we wanted to go to. We preferred the northeast end so much better than the west end. The accommodations were good, clean, and quiet (at the time we stayed) . The overall trip was relaxing. The food at David's was delicious but the prices were higher than expected. Would definitely go back again.

I took my 21 yr old daughter as a graduation present for a week. We had a blast. We went clubbing with the entertainment director to a salsa club. The next night she hung with my daughter at the reggae club. I hung out with one of the bartenders at some local bars. The food was fabulous. I always rent a convertible, who wants transportation provided?? I would give it 5 stars, except the company that provided the snorkeling trip was a major disappointment. Rode horses on the beach. Perfect vacation!!!

Very Relaxing

  • Lovin' the Caymans
  • Feb 1, 2012
If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing place to stay in the Caymans, the Reef is great! If you are looking to be in the center of all of the island's activities, this is not the place for you. The Reef is on the East end of the island, which is about a 45 minute drive from Georgetown. It is beautiful on the East end and is close to Rum Point and Cayman Kai. The botanical gardens, Mission House, Bodden Town, Wreck of the Ten Sail and blowholes are also on this side of the island. Very quiet, not a lot of traffic and plenty of interesting stops between the resort and Georgetown. I highly recommend renting a car if you are going to stay on the East end and plan on going to other parts of the island - it is very convenient and most of the cars are very fuel efficient. It will save you a lot of money on taxis/shuttles. All of the rooms at the Reef are ocean front. We had a second story room on the far end of the resort and it was very nice. Our room was one of the inexpensive ones, but it had a nice, comfortable king size bed, island decor, a decent size TV with American shows, a small kitchenette with coffee maker, microwave, small fridge, sink, plates, bowls, glasses and silverware. The bathroom was decent with a good shower/tub. We had a nice sized balcony with chairs and a table and a great big sliding door that we kept open all night so we could hear the ocean (best sleep ever!) The room was clean and comfortable with plenty of towels. The beach is clean and quiet with lots of lounge chairs and palm trees to relax under. The bar and restaurants were pretty far away from our room (but it helped us to avoid spending too much on drinks, plus it's a nice walk). The snorkeling is good by the resort and there are some other really great places close to the resort to snorkel. I also saw people kite surfing, kayaking and fishing. The resort has a dive/watersports shop with very helpful staff. Housekeeping, concierge and front desk staff all nice. Restaurant staff hit and miss - one night no one would wait on us and we left and ate somewhere else. Food and drinks were pretty pricey at the bar and restaurant but that is true for most places on the island. I recommend buying groceries at the grocery store across the street. There is also a Dunkin' Doughnuts, liquor store, dive shop and a really good Italian restaurant right across the street. The resort is nothing fancy if that is what you are looking for, this is not the place for you. The pools and hot tubs are small and nothing special. Overall we were very happy. I recommend this place to someone who wants peace and quiet and pretty much just wants to lay on the beach all day or someone that wants to travel around the island and explore and then return to someplace quiet and relaxed.

scuba diving vacation

the focus of my trip was scuba diving and it was good. The dive shop is a 5 min walk on the beach. Their staff is friendly and know what they are doing. They go to different sites on the east side of the island. Somewhat a bit expensive ($130 for a 2 tank dive) than in other places I dove but I knew that before coming. The beach is long and sandy, the water is quite clean. But in the water there are grass and smaller rocks, and snorkeling in front of the hotel is nothing spectacular - very few small corals, some fish here and there. The best place to snorkel is around the dock - this is where the fish is waiting to be fed. The Reef hotel - great location, all rooms face the sea. The only downside is food - quite expensive at the hotel and the quality is below average. The waiting staff is mostly good, with some exceptions. Across the road from the hotel, there is a small supermarket and if you are into cooking, you can buy there. Another option, ask at the hotel about their "reef saver" meal plan - it is $56 a day. Though the choice of dishes on the plan is somewhat limited. Overall good relaxing vacation.

Hotel is nice and clean. Disappointing not having free WiFI anywhere in the complex. Location perfect. Due to less than ideal weather condition this expensive vacation was disappointing.

Great location on 7mb. The hotel was VERY clean and spacious. Nothing luxurious, but the fact they had a kitchenette made life that much easier with a kid. Overall, would stay here again (with kid). If we came by ourselves, might venture to Ritz.

Fabulous family vacation

  • Vacation Lover!
  • Apr 13, 2010
We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation over spring break at the Grandview. The room was beautifully decorated and spacious and the view spectacular. We got a 2nd floor oceanview room 1221, steps from the beach. The maid crew was very thorough and the staff very friendly and helpful. My son and husband took 2 diving trips,we all did stingray city and took the submarine ride. After snorkeling in many locations around the island we found the best to be right off our own beach! They have a coral reef about 50 yards out. The water there is better for snorkeling than for swimming(rocky) but that's what we like anyways. Beach was nice and sandy and very quiet and good for shelling. We were so glad to be there because we walked down the Marriott and it was jam packed wall to wall people on their beach and in the water! Dinners out were great every night - our favorites were Hemingways, Casanova by the Sea, and The Grand Old House(most spectacular view) My daughter loved it so much she cried when we left (better than Riviera Maya and anywhere in Florida) The only issue we had was the fitness center was very small and hardly ever open and tikki bar next door was a little trashy. We would highly recommend the Grandview for any family that likes it quiet(and we were there over spring break!).

The hotel is a typical Ramada, but in a great location. Open bay views and adjacent to a golf course. The beach is a disappointment as it has a rough coral surface and is shallow. The area scuba diving and jet skiis are the ebst.

Ramada Grand Cayman April 2010

  • Susan
  • Apr 4, 2010
Driving to the hotel was frustrating. The first road we took was blocked by a closed gate. We drove back out to 7 mile beach and found a sign that pointed us to the Ramada Inn. It was a long drive through the golf course to get there. When we got to the room exhausted, we had to fill out a long inventory list of room contents and turn it in to the front desk. A coffee maker was provided but NO COFFEE! No stores were nearby to purchase coffee. The pool and the landscaping were very pleasant. The ocean view was pretty. We stayed in a room with a king sized bed and a sofa bed. Since no roll away bed was available, one of us slept on the floor. The room was clean. The hotel was adequate, but I am in no hurry to go back.

Great destination!

Location was great for diving, with easy access to the resort's dive trips. Located on the East End of the island, it is away from the hustle of Georgetown proper. If you want a bit of seclusion on Grand Cayman, this is the place to be. You will need to rent a car to get there from the airport and to get around the island. A local grocery store is about 3 miles down the road. Amenities on site were great, with the exception of the stove and oven taking a long time to heat up and therefore a long time to cook meals. The view out the patio of the sea was outstanding, and the kids loved the pool and hot tub; however, the temperature of the hot tub was sometimes hot and sometimes not.
