Convenient, but slightly dicey location

  • flipits
  • Sep 26, 2011
This hotel was located in downtown Vancouver, close to Gastown, Chinatown, ships, and tour buses. It was clean, with free WiFi and continental breakfast. Small room, nicely decorated. Air conditioner did not work very well, but otherwise everything was fine. Staff was friendly and helpful. The only real drawback was that the immediate neighborhood appeared somewhat seedy, with a lot of panhandlers. It was fine and reasonably priced for one night, which was what we wanted.

The Vancouver Ramada Downtown Limited Hotel is a bit old and dated, but the rooms are modern and well furnished. Breakfast was included. Not a big buffet, but adequate. Hot items( pancakes, eggs, saussge), cereal, yogurt, juice, coffee, pastries and fruit. Breakfast room is very small and gets congested with all the guests. Hotel is easy walking distance to Canada Place (6-8 blocks) 2 blocks to Gastown and 4 blocks to Chinatown. Bus stops right out front door. Great location and good price for Vancouver, a city of great outdoor fun.

The hotel is very nice and the location ideal, in downtown Vancouver 2 or 3 blocks away from the waterfront, Gastown and much more. The rooms are very spacious with a living room. Best of all is the staff. Everyone was extremely helpful giving us great tips and recommendations that were definitely away from the tourist traps. I would stay there again with no hesitations. This is a great little gem in the heart of Vancouver!

Stayed here for a long weekend with family. It was our first time in Vancouver and the hotel was very centrally located to everything. The room was very small for 4 adults but we made do, especially since we didn't spend much time there. Staff was friendly & helpful except initially upon check-in they attempted to charge for the additional guests, stating the room was booked only for one adult. They were apologetic when shown the reservation indicating 4 adults. Amenities were average but room exceptionally clean.

This was the best hotel I've found in Vancouver. It's in a great location downtown and within easy walking distance of sky train lines. In the past, I've stayed at less expensive hotels closer to Granville St. and further south (towards False Creek), but found that a few blocks can make a big difference with respect to safety in downtown Vancouver, especially after dark. I had none of those concerns in the area where Sutton Place is located. The hotel itself is very nice and the staff is excellent.

Needed two rooms at the very last minute and Orbitz offered this place. Surprising, it was outstanding. The location was convenient to Davies street with wide selection of restaurants and four blocks from shopping district. On the 20th floor, fine view of the city which was great even at night. Room just a little bit worn but mattresses and showers were high quality and tiny kitchen worked well. Had to pay $33 for parking but internet was free. All and all, it more than did the job.

We stayed at the Pan Pacific the night before our repositioning cruise left for Los Angeles. Definitely a five star hotel. We upgraded for $50 to a room that was on the 12th floor, directly over the pool, and awoke to a Princess Cruise Ship right outside our window and great views of all the harbour activity. The staff at the desk was very friendly. We arrived early and spent some time waiting in the lounge that overlooks the harbour, rooms were ready AT 4pm, as advertised, but not before. Food and drinks are quite expensive, but as others had posted, we found Rick's (Ricky's?) Diner down in the food court to be a great place for dinner and breakfast. Rooms and beds had all the amenities one could ask for, Would stay here again, especially at the price we paid through Orbitz.

The hotel was very nice and clean! The location was right near the action on Robson but also close to Gastown and other sights. The concierge staff was the best that I have experienced in a long time. The only down side was that the hotel restaurant was a little bit expensive for the quality - I would recommend checking out some of the other eateries right around the hotel.

The staff was exceptional. The concierge, Nathalie, was the best! She really helped with organizing our week long trip, took care of dinner reservations, etc. The hotel restaurant named Diva was a pleasant surprise for both breakfast and a late dinner. The room was clean and well maintained. The only two negative comments were that the soft goods in the room, bath sheets, towels, bath mat, etc, were a bit worn and frayed. Second, the televsion system/tv were out of date and had limited selections. Overall, great location, exceptional staff, and well worth the price on Orbitz.

Great helpful staff. Perfect location. A little disappointed in the in-room dining as we called down for service and were told that it would be a 90-minute wait. We decided to go to the bar in person and order and attempted to carry it back to our room when we were told we'd have to be escorted thru the public areas of the hotel.

Review of Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre

  • Ken
  • Jul 13, 2011
I stayed at the Sheraton Wall Centre while attending the annual World Future Society conference, World Future 2011 which was held at the hotel. My room was very clean and quite well maintained. It had two double beds in it, so it would have been suitable for a couple as well as a single traveler. The bed was very comfortable. There was a good selection of US and Canadian channels on the TV. Internet service worked well and 512 level was complimentary. The conference meals served at the hotel were very good. Joe's Grill nearby serves very good breakfasts with very large portions. One morning I had their banana-buttermilk pancakes. You will know you had breakfast when you finish a plate of those. If you want a light breakfast comparable to Dunkin Doughnuts in the US, there is a Tim Horton's a block away. For dinner just up the street from Joe's grill on the same side is a Mediterranean restaurant which serves good Greek food. I had dinner there on the patio outside--great if the weather is nice. Two problems I encountered at the Sheraton Wall Centre: I found the AC was too cold and there was no way in the room to control it. Also, one has to use their room key cards to operate the elevators, and a lot of people including me had trouble doing so.

Location is this hotel's best asset!

  • MatthewK
  • Jan 4, 2012
In the heart of downtown Vancouver on Granville street, this hotel is at a super convenient location and is in walking distance from everything. What is not within walking distance, you can connect to the Metro or bus with ease. The staff is attentive and friendly. The rate we got was superb! We booked months in advance and stayed over Christmas and New Year's and we only paid about $65 per night. The room had no view (just the other side of the building), but the room itself was simple, comfortable, and had just what we needed. The furniture is modern with dark woods and granite tops, so it has a high end look and feel. The double beds were very comfortable with feather top blankets. The large LCD TV was nice, but I will never understand why hotels make the investment to have nice HDTV LCDs but no High Def. channels. They do not offer movie rental service or anything special through the TV, just about 40 standard def. channels. But hey, who is staying at a hotel to watch TV, right? So not a big deal. There's no in room safe, which I always prefer when traveling for a long trip where I might be carrying a good amount of currency. But again, this isn't a big deal. There was a restaurant (Irish pub) in the hotel, but we never ate there. I suppose it's convenient and it looked like they had a breakfast special. There are an abundance of cafes (Blenz is my favorite!) and restaurants nearby the hotel, especially on Davie street which is around the corner. We dined on Davie street on most days and really enjoyed the convenience and variety. Also, regarding Davie street: if you are up for a 20 min walk, you can go directly to Stanley park by foot via Davie street - really nice! One negative thing - there is a nightclub next door to the hotel that the hotel owns and on Thursday through Saturday nights expect to hear loud thumping bass until at least 2AM. Fortunately for my partner and I, we were usually awake anyway at that time so it didn't matter. I just find it irresponsible for a hotel that owns a nightclub to knowingly expose their hotel guests to noise pollution that they have control over - that's not good service. We were on the 3rd floor and not next to the club and still heard the bass. Overall, a great hotel - you get what you pay for. This is not a 5 star hotel, so don't expect it to be more than what it is. However, it is a simple, comfortable, and clean place to stay with a location that is second to none.

Convenient location for business downtown. Breakfast/lunch restaurant on-site, and excellent Smitty's Public House nextdoor for dinner. Many others nearby. Parking and/or valet fees are not mentioned in the hotel description online, and should be. Strong mildew smell in room. Easy to fix that by giving a once-weekly spraying of carpet and bathroom tiles with anti-mildew spray, and putting a few drops of Clorox in the drains so that the Clorox can sit in the P traps until the next use. Problem solved.

We walked around the downtown area, went to the botanical gardens, shopped and had some wonderful food. The only negative is that we feel we were overcharged by the cab driver when he drove us to the port for our cruise. He never turned the meter on and we didn't notice until we were just about at the port.

I Have stayed at this hotel on multiple occasions and it is in a perfect location; walking distance to downtown and stanley park. Views of Coal Harbour are great so make sure to get one unless you rather face downtown. My Wife and I went to Cin Cin for dinner and it is great (make reservation). We rented bikes right next to the hotel and took a ride around stanley park along the seawall. Then of to a Canucks (NHL) game. Overall Vancouver is a great city to just relax and get away.

We stayed here for the first time, and will definitely return. We visit Vancouver yearly for the RSVP bike ride from Seattle and usually stay at the Coast Plaza since that is where the ride officially ends. I've had issues in the past with the staff there-long lines checking in, rooms not ready, curt counter attitudes, and so with the rate increase this year I decided to look around. Sandman came recommended and I am doing the same. I was greeted politely, room ready, no lines, beautiful - albeit smaller then Coast Plaza- suite with bay view, balcony, nice pool, no screaming kids, restaurant and lounge. We were seven blocks from the Coast and so did some hoofing back and forth for events, but the exercise was good.

Be prepared for a 25 min bus ride to downtown if you are on local transportation. I heard you can transfer to the Skytrain for a faster trip but I didn't attempt it. There is a beautiful inside courtyard garden with rhododendrums and my room was furnished in dark green carpet with burgendy accents and English paisley chairs. There was a small frige but no microwave. McDonald's is right next door and many Vietnamese restaurants are nearby. The room was large with a big flatscreen TV.
