The Courtyard restaurant and collection of fine shops make "staying home" fun. THE GREAT HOUSE INN is located in the renowned Fort George area and is just 100 meters from the Caribbean Sea. Around the corner stands the historic Fort Point Lighthouse at the entrance to the Belize Harbor and adjacent to the Baron Bliss Memorial, which was erected as a monument to the Englishman, Baron Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss. He lived aboard his yacht "Sea King", which was anchored just off the Fort George Point. Although he never set foot on Belizean soil, due to health reasons, he fell in love with the sea, the fishing and the charming qualities of its people. On his death on March 9th, 1926, he bequeathed a legacy of over a million dollars to Belize, the British Honduras, in a "Baron Bliss Trust". The 9th of March later became a public and bank holiday in this country. This Belizean landmark was built in 1927 by talented local craftsman and still retains its beauty, grace and charm. Now, this magnificent four-story colonial style residence in probably the largest classic wooden home still in existence in Belize. Originally built as a family home, this wonderful structure still provides the warmth and comfort reminiscent of the early colonial times of Belize. Spacious verandas at the front of the house allow you to relax and let go amidst the soothing embrace of the Caribbean breezes. The colonial heritage and ambiance are faithfully preserved in all of the sixteen guestrooms. Each is individually color coordinated with a host of tasteful and comfortable appointments. Friendly staff, clean, comfortable room. I was a little disappointed that I had to go elsewhere for breakfast as the restaurant no longer opens in the morning. Very pleasant stay.

We had a beautiful room done in the bright colors of the time. The bed was nice and firm. The bathroom was modern even though the room was that of an grand old plantation house. The only thing wrong with the room was that the room safe didn't work.

We stayed at the Radisson the night before the flight home. After 6 days in the jungle and 2 on a caye, a nice hotel was fantastic. We arrived about 10 am and got right into our room. Everyone was very nice, the public areas were attractive, and the room with a/c was quite comfortable. (The hallways are not air-conditioned, which I think is a good thing.) We didn't actually use any amenities, but the pool looked very inviting. If I return to Belize, I would consider using this hotel as a base and making day-trips from there.
