good value for an average hotel

Sunbay hotel is your everyday average hotel. We stayed for two nights, just before leaving Barbados, so we did not have any high expectations. Anyhow, the "sister" hotel Barbados Beach Club is just across the road and has direct beach access + towels and umbrellas. Good stuff. Apart from this, the rest is pretty much like any three star hotel you'd find anywhere in the world. WORTH STAYING IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SPEND THAT MUCH ON ACCOMODATION.

Nice, quiet , bang for the buck

  • JerryJ
  • Jun 27, 2011
This is nice clean, quiet hotel and a good value for the money. Amenities are lacking but then again it doesn't claim to offer much so you get what they advertise. The pool and garden area is very pretty and relaxing and the rooms are spacious and clean. The staff was friendly , if not very fast, but thats the Caribbean way . The only meals available are brakfast and we were on the continental plan so it was ok. Nothing special. I would NOT recommend the all inclusive which means lunch and dinner are across the street at their sister hotel and the food there is horrible. We slept here and used the pool on occassion but we went beach hopping and sight seeing by renting a car. If you want the extras this hotel is not for you. If you want a clean , quiet, laid back place to relax then this is great. Remember this is not a beach front hotel. The beaches that are within a 3 minute walking distance are ok but there are much more beautiful and comfortable beaches on the island to enjoy. BTW renting a car will save you a ton of money as cabs are very expensive. A 10-15 minute cab ride will cost from $15-$20 each way. One can easily spend $80 per day on cabfare.

Proximity to beach was paramount - doesn't get any better. Accra Beach (= Rockley) is just gorgeous. Able to sleep with sliding door open and hearing the surf and feeling the breeze! Being familiar with Barbados (maternal family is from there), I thought things were a bit expensive, but for eats we always go across the street into town. Great convenience store in plaza across the road. Eat Roti when you can - Chefette, Roti Hut or Ackee restaurant. Staff mostly helpful, kind, patient with my teenagers who barely got out of the room in time for the housekeeping's last call. Upon arrival, there was free Great cake, plus tote bag and cap with hotel name. MOST IMPORTANT - clean beach and great waves (not as violent as Crane Beach, but surfers seem to like it). Me and the kids? we just get in the water until sunset... but there were a lot of others lying out for a tan or whatever. Nice activities, pools and pool bar

Over all I had a great stay at the Marriott Barbados. The cleaning staff(Disiree was great) was great the check in was one two three. The room was very nice, clean and welcoming when you walk in. There is no room service that's one thing that I miss. I did eat at Friday's which is a little high. I went in to Bridge town and shop and had geat food. Just take the #11 2.00 into town.

A great stay - wish it were longer

  • Nov 11, 2011
Excellent. Lovely room, beach, staff & totally relaxing. Friendly & helpful staff. Clean, good amenities and attention to details. It exceeded our expectations. Our ground floor double studio was so convenient but we could see it could be noisy with the bar music & children playing in the high season - we would take Ipods next time to block out noise! We were right by the swim-to pool bar. The east block has a deeper pool & seems quieter - it depends what you want. The weak point would be the restaurant food - limited menu & expensive for what you get. If staying longerw we would self cater all the time. No point in pre-booking restaurant meals. There is a free shuttle to super market twice a week or a smaller convenience store at The Gap that is 15 minute walk along the beach. Local buses are only 5 minutes walk. The sound of the surf was great - as good as North Shore Hawaii ith the benefit of being able to go in the shallows even if not a surfer. We'll be back!

Hilton Barbados Good Time!

  • Jan 30, 2012
We stayed at the Hilton back in early December. As winter sets in in NJ Barbados really sounds Great! Hilton has a unique location we loved the man made reef; fantastic beach. We only had lunch at the resort as the location is great allowing you to visit many nearby restaurants for dinner. We enjoyed the Cliff but Champers was our favorite restaurant. We had lunch one day at Mama Mia fantastic fresh Italian. We enjoyed the clean swimming pools and comfortable padded beach chairs. We will return one day,we had a very relaxing time.

Quality in a glorious location

The Hilton Barbados is a top quality resort. The rooms are very comfortable & well appointed, the location is superb with sea views on three sides and a wonderful private beach, facilities are excellent and the team at the Hilton are super friendly & helpful. You certainly pay for the privilege though. I understand food is expensive throughout the island, by UK standards, but a meal at the hotel is likely to set you back £75+ a head without a drink. And I still don't understand top hotels gouging over £10 a day for internet access, which is profiteering on a fixed asset with no marginal costs, especially when the rooms are top price anyway.

R and R in Barbados

  • LEK
  • Dec 6, 2010
It was nice, but could use a makeover, i.e. painting, good cleaning, shine up the tiled floors, replace the water-damaged drapes, shine up the windows, especially in the dining areas. There are pros and cons to an all inclusive. I went there just to get some rest, and not having to leave the resort to go out dining was a plus. Also, the fact there was a spa on the resort was good too because I wanted and had 1 1/2 massages without any difficulty of getting appts. The negative thing about the resort was cats! I saw at least 4 or 5, and I'm terrified of cats. Most of the employees with whom I spoke also said they don't like cats. So why are they there? Why can't they take them to an animal shelter or give them to their rightful owners?

Wonderful small resort

  • Missing Barbados
  • May 2, 2011
It is a beautifully placed hotel with both a private beach and rock wall to let you hear the sound of the crashing waves. The staff is all very nice and the rooms have a great view of the water. Every person I met who was staying at the hotel was very pleasant and fun. You never have a problem getting a chair by the pool or on the beach and the water activities guys are great. The bar is a lot of fun and nightly entertainment is right on. My only complaint would be the food. They have a nicer restaurant that you can only eat at 3 times a week (make sure you bring nice clothes or they won't let you in) and other then that you will only have buffet food that you will tire of eventually. I highly suggest this resort for anybody who wants to have a nice quiet trip with your loved one or family.
