Fantastic position, right near some wonderful restaurants and bars and an easy walk to the Strand. Hotel provided everything we needed for an overnight stay, the beds comfortable and the room very clean. Highly recommend.

The 1 bedroom apartment was very clean and looked brand new. Situated at the far end of Palmer Street it's the furthest away from the action but quiet. Worth the money.

Great place for families to stay. Is situated a little apart from all the main restraunts of the CBD, however a lot of new development is going on so this may change in time.

Mercure Townsville is a resort style hotel located close to the city and 2km from the airport. Set lakeside amidst 11 acres of lush tropical gardens, the hotel offers 144 spacious, well appointed rooms, with views across the lake or pool or through thegardens. Mercure Townsville boasts the largest hotel freeform swimming pool in Townsville, with a spa and an area for children, as well as tennis courts, a newly refurbished restaurant and conference facilities for up to 380 people.

We stayed here again on our return trip home. Our allocated room was very disappointing in relation to the room we had on our first stay. We assumed that the room allocated on our first stay was the room that we had booked. Upon questioning the reception staff I was informed that our first room was a complimentary upgrade, which I was not informed about when we checked in on our first visit. I was advised that I could upgrade to the room we had on our first stay but would have to pay the difference. After expressing my views about this and not being told our first room was an upgrade I was given another complimentary upgrade. It appears that you get a complimentary upgrade on your first visit and not be told about it just to "suck" you in to staying again. Future guests please beware of this. This incident did not start our return stay off very well at all.
We will certaintly take this event into account when we visit Townsville again.

Fantastic hotel. You would think that you were staying at a resort. Beautiful surroundings and excellent accommodation. A bit pricey for meals at the restaurant however there are plently food outlets within walking distance. Highly recommend this hotel.

My stay at Rydges Southbank Townsville was almost perfect. The room was comfortable and clean, the service was very friendly and professional. The restaurant too, was staffed by courteous and professional wait staff and very an excellent chef. The Garlic Prawns were the tastiest I have eaten. The hotel is central to town, cafes, museums. I would recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Townsville.

We spent two nights at the hotel and we really enjoyed it. Even though the corridors did not make a very good impression, the apartment was wonderful: spacious, with two flatscreens, modern kitchen and warm lighting (unfortunately one bulb was broken and couldn't be replaced at short notice). The pool is a little bit shady but okay.

The Plaza Hotel is conveniently located in the heart of Townsvilles shopping and business district, just 10 minutes drive from the airport.

can not conplain about the staff were more than helpful, but....the air con in first rooms and yes, was cheaper to book 2 seperate rooms than have the four of us in 1 room go figure, staff would have to clean two rooms instead of one now. the air conditioner was not working even left the rooms for an hour to see if would cool down while we found somewhere to stay cool, on returning when entering rooms could not breathe that hot as the humidity was about 100% and temp was 38 degrees. changed to new rooms and was not much cooler and we all had the worst nights sleep ever. the bar was shut down over christmas period, what the.... and breakfast had changed since last stay. not sure about the new ownership thinking need a new place to stay when in townsville

We were staying one night in Townsville on the way down the coast. We got in late, and the night manager was immediately available and got us checked in, in two minutes flat.
Don't be fooled by the ugly exterior, the rooms are comfortable, recently updated, and look pretty classy. For the price, you'd be hard pressed to find something better.
