The room was very good. Good bed, excellent views (I had a corner room with a view of the bridge and up the river), enough space to be comfortable. The bathroom was clean and very spacious. There are lots of restaurants around, you are right on the river and a short walk from the centre of town.

Very nice room, clean & tidy. Now

  • Andrew
  • Dec 6, 2010
Very nice room, clean & tidy. Now the not so good - two points, probably a bit semantic but anyway. First - why does the booking website ask for a smoking/non-smoking preference and then when I choose smoking for my wife, am told on arrival there is absolutely no smoking allowed. So my wife is supposed to go and stand outside in the rain at 2 o'clock in the morning on her own in the middle of Southbank???? Not good enough, if there is no smoking, fine but tell me prior to booking not after I have paid my money. I believe that falls under false advertising not to mention the possible harm that could have occurred to my wife. Second - a distinct lack of cable channels to view, I am really not interested in kiddies shows or soft porn.

Comfortable

  • JennyNYC
  • Oct 3, 2011
I participated at a conference at the conference center - it was easy to walk to and enjoy the great restaurants, coffee shops and parks on South Bank in the mornings and evenings before and after the conference. The room was clean and newly furbished - the staff was ok but not super friendly. The one draw-back: when arriving just before lunch from 2 days plane travels - we had to wait until 2pm to get to our room - the staff did not try to speed up the cleaning - it would have been nice to get a bit more accommodation. It was nice to be able to sit on the balcony, sip the first coffee in the morning and look at the great Brisbane skyline. Price of the room was very good - for a rather expensive Australia. It would have been a nice touch if the Hotel would have offered free Internet (although paid service work fairly well) - Internet connections are very difficult to come by in Brisbane (hardly free wifi in coffee shops etc).

Rooms are very clean & of generous

  • Sue-anne
  • Aug 28, 2011
Rooms are very clean & of generous size, walking distance to southbank with plenty of choice for dining out. Good view of city lights & night, a bit of traffic noise as is very close to major city hospital area but really nothing to bother about. Brisbane CBD is only 15 to 20 minute walk, & the Gabba is straight down the road. Would recommend.

Location superb. Train station to/from Airport is directly under the hotel - no need to walk outside, connected by escalators from hotel lobby. One block away from Queen St. mall. Shop in the City package value is second to none. Great service. Breakfast is fabulous - one of the best I've experienced. Rooms pleasant and comfortable. Decor is a LITTLE dated, but doesn't take away from the overall experience. The best choice for Brisbane 5* accommodation.

An excellent hotel in every way. Huge rooms with wonderfully comfortable beds plus all the fittings and fixtures that anyone would need. A very good restaurant and all staff in all areas were friendly and very efficient.Located right across from the Botanical Gardens and a short walk to the shopping malls. Only 15 minutes pleasant walk to the Southbank entertainment area. I loved the hotel and will definitely stay there next time in Brisbane. Book into this hotel with confidence.

We booked 3 rooms at Royal on the Park for 1 night for a family wedding at a nearby hotel. We got an early check in as our wedding was at 2pm. The staff were efficient and friendly and the hotel itself was very quiet and comfortable. It's position opposite the Botanical gardens allows for an early morning walk. We would definitely stay there again

Front desk staff seem to have multiple tasks and it is not uncommon to see the desk unattended for short periods of time. Slightly weathered in places and the rooms are a little small compared to some hotels, but you get what you pay for. Overall, perfectly located hotel at a reasonable price with good facilities.

My room location was great, I had a great view of the city and river. I found that my room was a perfect size and it was very clean. Only fault I found was I had booked a triple room and had been advised that we had a sofa bed for the third bed - which wasn't the case and we had to share a double bed. also the tv's need an upgrade badly!! Overall though, very pleased and will stay there again.

What a view!

  • rkell1950
  • Dec 12, 2011
Oaks Mon Komo is listed as a hotel but each unit seems like a condo. A 2bedroom 2 bath unit on the 10th floor that we had was amazing. The views were spectacular of the bay. The place seems almost new with high end appliances and luxury bathrooms. The furniture is really top notch. My only complaint was the unit could have been cleaner. I had to wash the windows because it really bugged me to stare out at the great view with them so dirty. You get the feeling they just change sheets and towels but do not do any real cleaning before you arrive. We had two different receptionists, one was very helpful the other seemed uninterested. There is a shopping mall with a Woolworths grocery store across the street with lots of other shops also. Not knowing Redcliffe we did not realize it is in a little bit of an older area and not close to transportation. If you desire a more touristy area try the Gold coast or the Sunshine. coast.

Overall our stay was good. The first room we checked into reeked of cigarettes when we specified non-smoking, however once I informed reception they moved us into a new room. There is a bit of a walk from the secure car park through the courtyard where the cafes & restaurants are to get back to the reception, then up the hotel so if you had a lot of luggage it would be a bit of an effort. Excellent location with lots of cafes and restaurants close by. Short stroll to Ann St.

Nice Hotel

  • Cathy T.
  • Mar 19, 2012
The Marriott in Brisbane has much to recommend it. The staff tried very hard to be accommodating and mostly succeeded. The room was stylish and mostly comfortable. The hotel is located one short block from the Riverwalk and its many restaurants as well as the CityCat catamaran that provides public transportation to many places in central Brisbane. The room was dark at night, a feature I like, with minimum light coming in from the edges of the draperies. The shower was great and the bathroom amenities were good. U.S. visitors new to Australia might want to note that, pretty consistently, the star rating for Australian hotels is one step up from how the same hotel would be rated in the U.S. So, this five-star Aussie hotel would likely be considered four-star in the U.S. That's not bad -- just a realistic assessment. The few concerns I had about the Marriott Brisbane would not prevent me from staying there again. However, here they are: The bedroom has a shortage of electrical outlets available. (I keep an extension cord in my suitcase, so that was not a problem for me.) The pillows are really wimpy; even after I requested some "firm" pillows, I had to pile up three of them in order to have enough support under my head. The room was serviced pretty well every day, although I twice had to request additional toilet paper and once had to ask for another bar of soap. In addition, and this may point out one of my pecadillos more than anything else, I noted that EVERY item I had out in the bathroom or on the desk was moved every day by every cleaning person. I don't leave anything of value out, but I do settle into a hotel room, and it struck me as a bit annoying and invasive that my things were rearranged on a daily basis. Nothing was damaged or moved significantly, but everything was moved slightly. Room service is quick and the items I ordered were good. However, the room service menu is somewhat limited; after a week at the hotel, I was tired of my choices. One final comment: At check-in, there was quite an aggressive attempt to up-sell me. I was in a standard room with a city view and was offered a room with a river view for $45 more per day or a room with breakfast and unlimited drinks for a "deal" at $95/day (that's a LOT of drinks). I want to feel like I have made a good choice when I check into a hotel, not like I need to spend a lot more to get a good room. Also, these rates seem high. I will stay at this hotel again when I am in Brisbane. It is not perfect but is much better than any other hotel I have stayed in as a business traveler to Australia.

I was extremely disappointed with the Marriott given the name and reputation I expected alot more. I went to go for a swim one day out of the entire week I was there and the pool was closed for cleaning and so small - nothing like the picture, the service was ordinary at the restaurant and they did not listen to what I said for my order, they overcharged me for meals, the room needing updating apart from the view it was a very ordinary room. I would even rate the old Novotel as a nicer place to stay. It was a shame I was there for the entire week.

It was okay. Just a pity our room was next to the parking area of the apartment. The air-conditioner didn't work properly so had to ring them to fix it. It would have been better if we had a better spot.
