We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. They upgraded us to a harbor view without our asking. Our fourth floor room had an excellent view of Darling Harbor and was right over the Sydney Aquarium. The National Maritime Museum was right across the harbor and accessible by footbridge. Food was expensive in Australia.

Great location (convenient to the Airport Link train) and walking distance to everything else. Very friendly staff (Australians are just friendly). Great bed -- just as advertised-- and wonderful breakfast (try to get a bed and breakfast rate). A little expensive but Sydney is an expensive city. Not sure one could do better anywhere else. I would stay there again.

Stayed there with my wife for a couple nights while in transit through Sydney. The rooms are small, but clean and perfectly nice and the staff is very friendly. The location is perfect if you want to walk around and explore the city. King's cross is a funky neighbourhood with lots of food and bars. Downtown shopping and most of the major tourist attractions are within walking distance if you are relatively fit or just a short cab drive away. It would be nice if they had free internet in the rooms, but there are a couple desktops in the lobby which are free to use. I would certainly stay there again... A good value for the money.

The staff were extremely helpful. We found the location convenient for the bus, sightseeing bus and train. We enjoyed the access to a computer and the internet in the lobby but were surprised that the breakfast was from a cafe next door. It was very helpful to have access to the kitchen in the lobby for preparing our own breakfast. Our friends were surprised we were in Kings Cross (a red light district) but during the day and early evening this was not obvious.

This is a true four star-hotel with all the creature comfort in the rooms you can expect and at reasonable cost. We went back for a second stay after our month-long journey through eastern Australia.
What we liked best was also its location. Many of Sydney's best-known sites are in walking distance (Royal Botanic Gardens, Opera House, Manly Ferry, The Rocks, etc#, and a stop of the city's hop-on hop-off tour busses is right in front.
The only negatives were an incompetent and mostly absent concierge #No big problem, as the reception staff is very knowledgable and helpful#, and the fact that the restaurant was closed most of the time #Also not very important; there are many nice eateries in easy walking distance).

We had previously stayed at this hotel & had a classier room, the room this time was a bit shabby & in need of a re-furb, but it was large & comfortable although very little wardrobe space.
It was not the room as advertised on-line.
The staff were very helpful & room service meals were excellent.
We would stay there again.

i was in sydney for only a few days, never been before, so i wanted somewhere close to the main attractions of the city. the hotel itself is in a business district, but it's all within alking distance to the main sights, like the opera house and darling harbor. the room was a little small but perfect for a single traveller, the bathroom was a little awkwardly placed but not a big issue. the room was very clean. i didn't go to the pool or any of the bars or restaurants. the staff was very helpful when i needed to get train timetables. there is free internet in the lobby for 30 min and the price in your room is very high, but this seems very typical for australia.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay immensely. Excellent location. Walking distance to Harbor and Opera House. Loved the elegant decor throughout the hotel. The sitting room off main lobby was so homey and cozy with a lovely wood burning fire place which was lit up in the evening. The marble bathrooms were exquisite and the king size bed so comfy. The rooms were exceptionally large. Plenty or room to relax after a long day of touring. Free internet was also a big plus. If looking for a hotel to stay at in Sidney, Look no further. This is the place for you!

Can't beat this place! It's about 1.5 blks from the harbour where the ferry runs and where the buses run. However, it's quiet. The people in the hotel were beyond friendly. Stu and Willie were fantastic and extremely helpful.

Stylish diners reserve well in advance for fine French-inspired lunch and dinner. The menu shifts with the season to include items such as cannelloni of Tasmanian ocean trout, celeriac and spanner crab remoulade. Very easy to get around from the location. But notice the change of name of the hotel from Marque. Luckily our taxi driver found it fine. Also enjoyed the free shuttle the city provides.

Convenience + Value

Conveniently located in downtown Sydney, close to trains, buses and Chinatown. Beautiful old building with nicely conserved Art Deco interior. Amazingly quiet considering its location, with good natural light. Our room was small but had everything. Our only complaint was the charges for extras like internet and phone calls.

The Great Southern Hotel had a great location for those that are looking to get around the city as well as its suburbs (close to central station). The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. The down sides to this hotel was the access to internet (there was no WiFi, only wired connections to pay for in your room) and they charge you for bag storage $2. Regarding WiFi, there are a couple of ways to get on to the internet, there is a restaurant attached to the hotel, if you purchase something they will give 30 min and some other options around the city. The bathroom also only had a bottle of shampoo/conditioner combo and bath and body soap. Not a big deal but if you need anything else, there were plenty of convenience stores in the area. Another good thing was they offered self-laundry.

Nice hotel with well furnished and spacious rooms. An excellent location right on Darling Harbour and just a few minutes walk to the CBD. Breakfast in their Lime Cafe was good and inexpensive. Reception staff were very helpful and gave good advice when requested. Reccomended.

The staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. The apartment had all the mod cons, was beautifully presented and well set out. I would not hesitate to stay there again. A great experience.

The staff were very helpful and the rooms had everything we could want to make our stay an enjoyable one. The location is great and we loved the variety of shopping and dining right on the doorstep.
