It's went down hill the last 4 months

It was ok but nothing worked.. Ice machine, key cards and air conditioning for example. The hotel is perfect location to all the best beaches. We were wrongfully charged from the spa, they did return it but it was a hassle.

Disappointed

Upon our arrival, the air was not working and the staff would not provide any details as to when the air would be fixed. Luckily it came on later that evening. The room was decent. The door to our room was not working. We had to literally slam the door to get it to close properly. Iron didn't work. Service was very slow. Overall, if you're looking for a value hotel, I would recommend SB. However if you enjoy a resort setting, I would spend the extra dollars and stay elsewhere.

Medium ...

I've stayed at Sugar Bay before and it has always been a nice/average place. The last trip I took was unfortunately a pretty negative experience. Our rooms weren't ready until 9:00pm, so they suggested that we wait around and just check in randomly throughout the day to find out if our rooms were ready (they were renovating the rooms apparently#. When they finally were, most of them didn't have water that worked until our second night there. The water that was coming out of the faucet tasted weird and was a bit dirty looking. The staff seemed stressed out and confused. Thank god this was a work trip. If it was for pleasure #or god forbid a wedding) it would have been a colossal disappointment and I would have been extremely angry. The pool was nice though, and the bartenders at the pool were nice too. I don't have the same compliments for anything else though. They didn't even offer a discount on this massive flop of a hotel experience. The receptionist offered to get us one drink though...that was ... nice... I'm sure it will be a nice/average place again soon. If you're looking for a relatively cheap and easy place, this will do fine.

if u can get pass

The staff and guests are super wonderful. The hotel left a lot to b desired. Our first room was awful... stopped up sink, broken toilet, flooded next room, furniture in thehall, and construction going on that woke us up at 8 am. Our second room was a little better. No hot water though. The food is ok. If you make it to the sports bar or dinner in the main lounge... but the friendliness and the awesome views helps ease you past some of your disdane. Management lacks that same sense of hospitality. Not very accessible for wheelchairs and its a lot of walking but gulf carts are available to shuttle u and were prompt.

Great St Thomas vacation

We are low maintenance. We had no problems but rarely stayed at the hotel b/c we were either on a trip, at the beach, or in St John. We had the free breakfast all week which was great. Shirley was our favorite waitress in the morning. Great staff who helped us and graciously answered all of our questions. Great location - Along the dollar bus route, close to Red Hook ferry, easy swim to Coki beach, and cool animals to see in Water Bay.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

You cannot walk from one beach to another. You have to take a taxi or look for the dollar bus. The bus runs a specific route around the island (does not go to the Marriotts). Learn the Safari bus route if you want to save money. We snorkeled around some of the points to avoid the taxi rides (minimum $5) but I would not suggest that unless you are an accomplished swimmer.

Average stay

The receptionist staff and food were horrible. Upon checking in the receptionist failed to explain how the room access cards de-magnetize if placed next to your credit cards or cell phone. We learned the hard way, after a long day at the beach, in town and the hike to our room only to not gain access. We weren't given our breakfast coupons which entitled us to free breakfast. I had to ask the receptionist the following morning who gave it us, but only after waiting for her to print them out, meticulously cut them and fill them out. Time is precious while on vacation, all of this should have been done prior to our arrival. We had bought beer prior to arriving to the resort and the resort did not have a complimentary bottle opener to lend. We dined at BACI, one of the resorts restaurants and the food was horrible. Shrimp Alfredo had 5 shrimps in it. Also had the Steak with gorgonzola, which had a weird taste, I had two bites, and only opted to eat the veggies that came with it. Our server asked how out meals were, to which we replied not good, she said ok took out plates then handed us out check. We learned our lesson and had our remaining lunch and dinners from local spots at half the cost! We asked the receptionist if the stores would be open in town due to carnival, which she responded yes of course. When we got to town 3/4 of the shops were closed, what a disappointment, but we enjoyed carnival. I also wanted to go to Crowne Mt., which IS the highest point in St. Thomas and inquired at the travel kiosk in the hotel lobby. I was told by the lady that it's was Mountain Top (which has great views, along with a monster size souvenir shop and overpriced drinks...my idea of a Tourist trap) to which she became rude and said you trying to tell me something, I live here I should know. Guess the topographic maps where wrong!? Anyways I did go to Crowne Mt. And mountain top... the views were fabulous in both, but Crowne mt definitely overshadowied the tourist trap. I'm glad I did my own research prior to the trip and for not getting the all inclusive package. Other than the food and receptionist experiences, the resort grounds, rooms and location were great. The resort would fair much better if they improve the food and educate their receptionist staff.

Our honeymoon

We stayed in this hotel for 5 days for our honeymoon. They gave us a double bed room when we requested a king sized bed every day and they didnt make the effort to change us to another room. The hotel isnt walking distance from anything so you need a cab or a safari to go places. The food at the hotel is really pricey(above $20 per person). The staff was alright and our room was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom had minor damages like the doorknob, the sink was clogged and the shower was a little broken. The room bay view was amazing. The hotel beach is very small but theres other beaches you can go to around the island. I liked that the hotel had activities every day from 10am to 9pm such as yoga, zumba, iguana feeding, bingo, intro to scuba, mini golf tournament, pilates, etc. Aside from not getting the room or the afforable food we wanted we had a really great time.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Instead of wasting money on a cab to go places, ride a safari! Its $2 per person instead of $10+. You just have to walk or take a shuttle to the hotels gate entrance and theres a safari stop right there. They go by every 15 minutes or so and its nice because you get to see the whole town. Also if you dont want to eat at the hotel theres this great pizza place that does delivery called Señor Pizza and theyre tasty, afforable and quick!

the spa was great but thats about all

The food literally stunk.. like as in a retirement home. We went into red hook for meals all the time. I would not do the all inclusive unless you can eat your weight in food. Some of the staff was nice but not overwhelmingly friendly. Amanda in the spa was wonderful!!! A lot of the hotel is in disrepair..
