Amazing Find!

I found this hotel through searches on the internet. It was absolutely fabulous. I did not realize it was a "condo hotel" and actually did not expect the full apartment I got. It was clean and beautifully decorated. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very nice gentleman who offered us a rum punch. The location can't be better as it is in a spectacular bay.

Nice private beach not far from the St. John ferry

Secret Harbor is a comfortable hotel in a nice private location. There are plenty of chairs and umbrellas but no water toys except for rental. Snorkeling is good with reefs just off the beach and lots of fish. The one bedroom condo was dated but just steps from the beach. The rooms were very clean and maid service was good. Staff was very competent. When booking ask for a ground floor in building three. You step out on the beach but building three is elevated so your are not in a fish bowl.

Excellent location and staff

Very nice staff. Beautiful views, beach, snorkeling awesome. The bar and restaurant were very good and the bar side food very good. Room clean and maintained every day. Wonderful property and very clean. Staff always willing to assist. Perfect tropical location not overly busy but busy enough to feel exciting. Great harbor /bay location. Will be back again for sure.

Winter escape

When we arrived at the hotel we were a little concerned by the drabness of the lobby and the sullenness of the desk staff. It seemed to me that some of the employees were ill-suited to the hospitality industry. On arriving at our suite however, those initial impressions faded quickly as we stepped out on the veranda overlooking a beautiful bay and a warm, inviting beach. We quickly shed our travel clothes and grabbed our snorkel gear and began what was to be the best week of fun and relaxation we've had in a long time. The suite was clean and well appointed with all the usual amenities though I thought the bathroom was in need of some renovation. There was one minor issue that we encountered with the suite and that was immediately resolved by the hotel. Each of the suites is privately owned but managed by the hotel so there is some element of chance in the degree of comfort you'll find but all in all, it worked well for us. There were no laundry facilities within the suite or the hotel which was a little inconvenient but again, not a deal breaker. The location is quite secluded and best suited for couples and people with young families. If you are vacationing with teenagers or young adults, they probably would hate the tranquility of this location. The resort has an excellent restaurant and we ate there several times. There are many good restaurants on the Island and St. John's is a quick ferry ride away so we had no shortage of variety. There is a dive shop at the resort that also arranges boating activities and they did an amazing job organizing a day on a sail boat for us that was just what we were looking for. You can rent cars or rely on taxis to get you around. We had called the hotel before we arrived and they recommended that unless we planned to do a lot of driving, we'd be better off with taxis. We took their advice and didn't regret it. The roads are narrow, the cars are all left hand drive and they drive on the left hand side of the road - not a stress reducing combination. In contrast, the taxis are inexpensive (you pay per person, not per ride), readily available and, with the right driver, can provide an impromptu tour guide for the island. There are many good beaches on the islands and we visited several. But ultimately, the beach at this resort offered the best balance of sand, sun, swim and snorkeling.

Setting and set-up are superb

The physical setting is outstanding. Our room was a "roo" not a studio or bedroom apartment and was probably the lowest quality (cheapest) offered - and we loved it. Great view, clean and comfortable . Hotel staff was 90% attentive and helpful. Two restaurants provided great, really great food. Beach chairs and towels and waiter service was excellent. The dive shop - Aqua Action is very helpful.

Pleased Again

This is our second visit this year and could not have been more pleased. Everything went very well. The beach, the water, and snorkeling was super. We had great taxi service and used the same guy every day for local trips. Taking a private taxi from the airport was definitely worth it since it allowed us to stop by the grocery to stock up before checking in at Secret Harbor.

Dining at the Ritz is way expensive. Although everything is pricey on the island, we did not expect to pay more than double what the cost was at the nice Secret Harbor. Fish Tails in Red Hook is awesome!

Great beach and location to Red Hook

We found our unit very outdated. With that being said we were right on the beach with a perfect view. The beach was beautiful, with full on beach service. In the end we did not come to the island to stay in our room, so it was a perfect spot for a couple looking to swim, snorkel(one of the best beaches on the island for snorkeling) and sun bath. The distance to Red Hook was less than 5 minutes by taxi. We went over to St. John twice during our 4 night stay. We would definitely go back. The staff was incredibly helpful, and hospitable.

DO NOT leave the resort for a better beach. We found that after exploring a couple of 5 star resorts we had the better beach front property compared to others.

Secret Harbor--everything I had hoped for and more!

I was looking for a beach front hotel with walk-in snorkeling and a restaurant on-site. I got all of the above. The beach was right outside of my room and the number of people on the beach was perfect: it was easy to get a beach chair and find a good spot. The staff was very diligent about making it a pleasant, clean and relaxing experience: everyone was wonderful. The snorkeling was great and the rental shop was a short walk down the beach. The 2 restaurants were perfect: one was casual but delicious and well-priced. The second was more formal, fine dining and was the perfect way to end my trip. I had a wonderful time and hope to make this an annual visit.

Back again

This was my 2nd stay at Secret Harbour. The hotel/restaurant/bar have received a facelift since my last visit 2 yrs ago. They did a great job! The resort is well maintained and the food was wonderful. Some of the same staff members were still there and unlike some places on the island, always gracious and helpful. It is the perfect spot for someone looking for a great spot to snorkel/dive (great dive shop with friendly helpful staff), hang out at the beautiful beach, eat some great food and have easy access to the Red Hook ferry and not be subjected to the cruise ship mess. If you want a Ritz Carlton, don't go here but why would you go to the Caribbean anyway? This is a great find with a congenial island feel. As a solo female traveler who loves the Caribbean, I felt safe and was able to completely relax. Thanks!

The New Horizons/Breakaway BVI day charter is a must. Went on it 2 yrs ago and on my recent trip. It is a great way to effortlessly get to some fantastic spots without feeling like cattle. My crew of Jeff, John and John dealt with customs, food and alcohol procurement so we could just enjoy! A great day at a very reasonable rate. Thanks guys!
