Budget B&B

Location in town is great. However, be ready to climb many steps to the site and to drag your luggage with you. No onsite luggage assistance is available. Breakfast is acceptable, only 3 choices available, and no substitutions allowed, unless you are a favored person. Breakfast location provides a great view of the city/sea. Rooms are minimally furnished, but clean. The site attracts a diverse and friendly clientele.

Good value and nice people

Hotel was just as advertized, a good Bed and breakfast on a rather large scale. Location was very convienent to downtown and the owner and staff very friendly and accomodating. Cab fare was ten bucks er person from the airport and there was plenty of shopping nearby, including a rather extensive flea market. Only downsize was a bit of climbing to ascend the hill and stairs.

Run down

It's an old B&B, a bit run down. The rooms could have been cleaner.

Great first night stay

Amazingly friendly staff! Very cute hotel with a great deal of small time European charm. Clean, comfortable rooms with no "chain" hotel feel.

A week's worth of adventure

I just got back from a 7 day solo adventure to St. Thomas and it was amazing. I stayed at the Galleon House B&B. I have to start by saying if you are a budget traveler, this is the place for you. I had read reviews of the property before going and there always seemed to be the mention of the 'stairs'! Yes, there were lots of stairs, 50 in fact, to get up to the front desk, but the beauty is in the view. With every step you were given the chance to see different lizards, hawks & even a humming bird. There was never a rush to get to the top, so for me, the stairs were no problem! When you finally reach the top, the veranda, you are greeted with warm hearts and smiling faces. The staff here was very well versed on the comings and goings of the island and for that I was very thankful! I had opted for the single room with a shared bath and despite my worry, I never had to wait for the bathroom. If you get the chance to visit St. Thomas, try at night at the Galleon House and learn a little from the locals.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Happy hour everyday from 4-7pm at the Fat Turtle. $2 domestic, $3 import, $3 well drinks, $4 wines. $5 gets you the option of 3 tacos or 7 wings. Great deal and great views of the harbor. Located in Yacht Haven Grande.

A bad ending to a good start.

My wife and I arrived on 30 August for a one night stay. The area is "historic" and this means a few things you should be aware of. The facility is several flights of stairs from the street, which is difficult if you are elderly or out of shape and carrying bags. There is limited parking during the day as it is in the Government building area. The room was a room, clean and tidy, but nothing unique or special. The staff at the time - Jeff - was very friendly and helpful with dinner suggestions. The bad ending came in the middle of the night (0330) when I woke after being stung on the elbow. I didn't see the culprit and didn't want to wake my wife, figuring it was an aggressive mosquito. It wasn't. My wife woke at 0630 when she was stung on the neck and woke to find a "clump" of bees on the bed in front of her face. While some of them seemed to be alive, the majority of them were more than lethargic and apparently dying. Suffice it to say, she was somewhat upset. We also found several more dead ones on the bedroom and bathroom floor. We brought this to Jeff's attention, who was not thrilled with the idea and discussed it with his boss when she arrived. She attributed it to the city cutting weeds in a nearby field and spraying (which probably accounts for the dying bees). We left as soon as we could (well before checkout time). Despite both my wife and i being stung (and fortunately not allergic), there was no mention of any refund or discounted amount. And the owner of the establishment has yet to contact us about how we are doing.
