Really needs updating

Our unit was old and dated. Walls patched but not painted. Cracked floor tiles. Refrigerator was unclean. Would not recommend.

Beautiful Island, Great View

The view from C-6 was wonderful looking out on the pond & beach. The beach itself was very nice. On several days we had our morning coffee on it watching the sunrise. The biggest drawback was not having anyone on site to ask questions. We were there several days before we located the pool & even getting beach towels was a problem. Apparently Crystal Cove was having work done & didn't have a reception area. When we arrived we were taken to a different property to get our keys. All said I would still stay at C-6 again & would recommend Crystal Cove. Aside from the problem of not having a rep on site, it was a lovely vacation.

Take the safari to TuTu Plaza for groceries. Fishtails in Red Hook has great food & drinks!

Convenient location, great scenery

I spent four days and three nights at Crystal Cove and would have loved to stay longer. Some of the negative reviews I think were from people who didn't set their expectations accordingly. This is NOT a resort, it is a complex of condominiums. That said, while the staff is friendly and helpful, don't show up and expect five-star service. On the other hand, the grounds are immaculate and the beach is amazing. A short walk up the driveway of the complex will enable you to catch a "dollar taxi" to Red Hook where you can find whatever you need (restaurants, grocery store, boat dock, information, etc.). The condominium we stayed at was very nice, the one knock on it was that the bed was very soft, both my girlfriend and I woke up with achy backs each morning. It was not the worst bed I have slept on, however. I would have loved to have stayed longer and would stay at Crystal Cove again on a return trip for sure. Don't hesitate to book!

STOP

Got there and it took 2 hrs for them to find the reservation, even though I had a printed copy with me. First room was rough. Broken blinds, broken bed, fixtures in the bathroom rusted to almost being unusable and whole condo was moldy. Moved to condo two. Again it seemed musky or moldy with similiar rust problems on anything metal, but that wasn't the worst part. There was worms in the water. Yes, little red worms had invaded the cistern and came out of the shower, faucet, kitchen sink... Hotel staff was discourteous EVERY time I politely and humbly approached. I gave up and contacted travel agency. They solved the issue by getting us to another resort. Wonderful vacation after day 2.

For the price, would do it again

We got a great deal at Crystal Cove ($1000.00 per person for 8 nights and round-trip tickets). While this place is older, and some of the fixtures are showing their age, Crystal Cove was quite possibly the cleanest and best maintained location I have ever stayed in. Located right on the beach, and only a mile away from many restaurants, shopping, and the ferry, it was the perfect jumping-off point for traveling the island(s), or just hanging out at the beach. The staff was very friendly, and performed their duties with a professionalism uncommon in the occupation. My only criticism is that I would not pay the same price for Crystal Cove as some of the more updated locations, but if you can get a bargain, I'd recommend you go for it!

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Taxi's are expensive, but the roads are perilous and the drivers are reckless, so we felt it worthwhile. I recommend you research current fare rates for the islands (there should be something on the island tourism websites), plan your activities ahead of time, and budget accordingly.

Great location, but the facility is run down

Our room had in front of our entrance 12 AC units, what made a lot of noise. Cleaning the room was only every other day. Telephone was not working, Wifi very poor. We booked Crystal Cove, but were sent to Sapphire Beach Hotel and Marina. There was no breakfast, no restaurant, no bar, nothing.

mold, rust, spider webs, dust, bugs

This facility had a major issue with cleanliness. It was very out dated which wouldn't have been a problem if the place was kept up nicely. There was mold on the shower curtain, the faucets and fixtures were rusted, there was dust and sand on the floors and under the rugs, the kitchen counter had bugs and a lizard crawling around. There were missing tiles on the bathroom walls and pieces of missing wall base. We stayed for two nights and couldn't take it anymore so we left and went to stay at the Ritz Carlton. It was more expensive but well worth it. It's a shame because the beach this property sits on is beautiful. Sea turtles, fish and more... an all around great snorkeling location. Just don't plan on spending anytime in the room.

Vacation in Paradise

Our original reservation was with Crystal Cove West but we got "upgraded" to a room east of the pool on the beach. The features seemed to match the room description and it was a beautiful view of water. We liked being right on the beach. We planned on eating in at least for breakfast & lunch because of no restaurants nearby. The kitchen appliances, Dishes & utensils were quite adequate but only 2 small burners worked on the stove and the oven didn't work well at all so we had to keep it "lite". On our last day we were speaking with an employee of Crystal Cove West-- said she believed Crystal Cove Condos West were bigger and nicer so at this point we do not know if it was a better room or not. Her advise, if this happens to you: Request to see the original room before accepting an "upgrade"! We also did some sightseeing downtown and around the island. Magens Bay is beautiful but the best by far was St. John which is accessible by ferry boat from Red Hook. If you rent a car you can go over on the barge $40 round trip.

Know Before You Go !

Crystal Cove is a great property - but I didn't get to stay there. I was placed in a separate property on Sapphire Beach that was not as nice as Crystal Cove. Be sure you know exactly what property you are booking. I did later move over to Crystal Cove and enjoyed my stay very much.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Take a taxi to the Red Hook area. Duffy's Love Shack is something you don't want to miss. Also, don't rent a car unless you are familiar with the island as you will spend more time trying to guess how to get somewhere than it would be worth.
