St. Thomas all-suite accommodations on Cowpet Bay
Set on the beach of Cowpet Bay and home to the St. Thomas Yacht Club, the Anchorage Beach Resort offers two- and three-bedroom suites with full kitchens. A lush hillside on one side of the resort and the waving Royal Palms around the property, make visitors feel like they have stepped into a postcard depicting a tropical paradise. The calm waters in front of the hotel invite daily snorkeling and kayaking outings.
Highlights
  • Calm water for snorkeling
  • Freshwater pool
  • Lighted tennis courts
  • Washer/dryer in each unit
Rooms
The 75 units at the Anchorage Beach Resort are individually owned so style and décor vary, but most feature island-inspired rattan and wood furnishings, along with bright island colors. There are two- and three-bedroom condominiums available, each with a fully-furnished kitchen and washer/dryer. All air-conditioned units have TVs and scheduled maid service.
Features
The Anchorage Beach Resort is conveniently located just two miles from the town of Red Hook, but it is gated which makes it seem much more secluded. Couples and families who prefer being able to prepare meals “at home” appreciate the fully-furnished kitchens and private balconies with table and chairs. There is also a dining area inside. A washer/dryer in each unit is another welcome convenience.

Roach motel

The cockroaches were all over the kitchen counter and the bedroom dresser. When we complained to the offsite "manager", we were told that our complaint was not the first, however when someone went to look for the roaches, they could not find them. As such, we were forced to keep our clothes in our suitcase, and our suitcases zipped closed. We were also forced to keep the bathroom lights and a kitchen light on to keep them somewhat at bay. We smashed several and left them there as "proof". The master bed was too small. The unit needed a lot of maintenance. The front door was hard to open, the ceiling fans were rusty, and the unit had the stench of mold and urine. We discovered a blackened hole in the ceiling above the toilet in the second bathroom, with black particles falling and whatever else falling from it into the toilet, it appearing that it was coming from the leaking toilet from above. On the plus side it had a great view and nice living room furniture.

do not throw your money away on this place

I want to request a refund, this was a terrible experience from the beginning, first we could not find any office or anyone to let us in we finally stopped at another resort and they checked us in and got us thru the gate and left us. This is what we found at the room the place had not been updated in 40 years, full bed not king like advertised, broken window shade full sun in bedroom at 6am,dirty sheets, tv not working, ac not working ,refrig rusty and rotted at bottom with metal sticky out and cut toe. ,rusty moldly metal kitchen cabinets, old worn with holes in counters, broken closet doors and hanging rod, rotted wood bath cabinet, lights not working , urine around base of toilet. all for $$350.00 per nite what a bargain, we have pictures of all this

Needs to be cleaned up

This was a unit in a set of condos that had a lot of potential, but was not run well at all. The condo itself was a a large 2 bedroom with a balcony and a nice view, with a really nice pool outside. It's inside a development where people own condos, so the whole development is nice. The condo itself, not quite. Issues: 1. When we got there, it was very difficult to find with no signs of where to go 2. There was nowhere to checkin. We needed to wait in the heat in the parking lot for 15 minutes until they drove over the keys. 3. the place itself had not been aired out and smelled like mold. It toook 2 days to get the smell out. 4. the air coniditioning was not working. After waiting for a few hours for them to come and fix it, we called again and they said they wouldn't fix it, and that we can switch units. this was after we unpacked for a 2 day stay so we declined since it wasn't worth the hassle. 5. All the doors/windows/blinds/screens had issues and wouldn't open and close properly. In general, the whole place had not been renovated in what looked like 30 years. I was glad we were only staying for 2 days, it was pretty bad. If they ever did a bit of renovation, it would be a great place. the only good thing I can think of is that they had a lot of clean towels.

Location, location, location

This was a rustic getaway where our children were sailing in a regatta at St Thomas Yacht Club. Fantastic location! The beach was great. The condo is the best of the 1980's and could use a face lift. Beware you must pick up your key at a different resort (Saphire Beach) and it took us 3 hours to figure this out. The ocean was beneath our window and the snorkeling was fantastic. Red Hook and grocery store are close by.This is not a luxury service resort (the Ritz),but we had a great time with expectations in check.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

St Thomas Yacht Club serves dinner Tues and Fri. You do not need to be a member. The food was great. The Fish Market at the Elysian was also a nice dinner out and you walk to it. We did not enjoy Sangria's. Service was terrible.

conveniently located to the Yacht Club

I loved being able to look out the balcony and see my kids sail off at the clinic/regatta sponsored by the Yacht Club, but the unit we stayed in was run down and dark. These condos do not have a main office so getting the key to the unit was tricky (we had to ask a lot of questions and go from place to place). If you are going to St. Thomas for a regatta at the yacht club, this is the perfect location, but be warned that not every unit in this condo complex is updated and nice. So, be prepared to pay for location only!

Nice Place

Location: Anchorage Beach is close to the eastern village of Red Hook (where the ferry for St. John leaves). Anchorage is managed by Antilles Resorts from the Sapphire Beach Resort, approx. 10 mins away by car. We spent most of our beach days on the Sapphire Resort's beach anyway, because the beach is much larger, has a nice underwater scenerey (saw turtles, a barracuda, great corals) and rents snorkeling gear for $5 for 1 hr or $10/day. So next time, we'll definitely try to get rooms at Sapphire beach resort before going with Anchorage Beach. That said, our apartment (2 bedrooms) at the Anchorage was pretty nice, with cooking facilities (and wireless internet access for $32 per week).Caution - the check-in for the Anchorage Beach resort is at the Sapphire Beach Resort, approx. 10 mins away by car. Don't go straight to the Anchorage resort, let a taxi ($60 for 5 people from the airport) drop you off at Sapphire Beach (close to the little village of Red Hook). Antilles resorts (manages sapphire and anchorage) has a free shuttle to get you to Anchorage after check-in.Car rental:You will need a rental car to go anywhere from Anchorage. We drove to a nearby food center to cook most meals (restaurants are not in walking distance, and expensive for a family of 5). We had no luck whatsoever getting a rental from one of the national chains - budget has a counter at the Sapphire beach resort, but you'll need to rent way ahead if you're there during busy holidays. For staying at Anchorage (and even otherwise), we recommend E-Z car rentals (340)775-6255. Their office is directly at the Anchorage resort, and the guy there - [...]- was super nice and helpful, gave us a 20 min. tour of the immediate surroundings, plus lots of tips on driving on the left side, and on what to do and where to go/eat/shop on St. Thomas.

Awesome service, beautiful accomodation!

When we arrived, the only issue we had was that Anchorage Beach Resort is through Sapphire Beach resort. We were unaware that we had to go to Sapphire Beach Resort to be escorted to our stay on Anchorage Beach. Regardless, the service we received was amazing! Our attendant, [...], was very helpful, friendly, and helped us with all of our needs! We received a coupon book for things all over the island (not just in Red Hook!). The beach was relatively small, but was beautiful and never had more than one or two people laying out or swimming. It was quiet and very comfortable. Our condo/apartment was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed for our stay! THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your service! We will be visiting again with our friends!

We used our kitchen every night, as the restaurants on the island are VERY expensive and although the small grocery market is expensive, it was definitely cheaper to eat-in our residence. One restaurant in Red Hook was particularly yummy though--Molly Malone's Irish Pub. They have amazing food; I would suggest the Shepherd's Pie! It's in downtown Red Hook and very convenient!

Very nice place to stay

What a great spot! We had a floor level condo that was on a hill, so the balcony still looked out over the property. It included a full kitchen and a washer and dryer. We could cook our own meals when necessary and we did a load or two of laundry daily, washing our beach towels every day (brought from home). The supply of hotel towels is kept in the room in case you need more, so there's no calling for room service! Breakfast daily was eaten out on the balcony area. The maid actually did the dishes one day when we left too quickly to wash up after breakfast. It's a small drive to get to the main road into town and other beaches, but it did not stop us from coming back to the room whenever we wanted. Plenty of restaurants and tour activities nearby. We recommend that you take the ferry to St. John, which is only about 5 min. from our condo. Our microwave broke and was replace within a day. The Sapphire Beach Resort (located about 7 min away) manages the condo property, so no room service, but that was fine with us because the local grocery is about 5 min away. The Sapphire let us borrow snorkeling equipment! What a great savings that was!! And we could keep it until we left. Beautiful property, nicely kept lawn and tennis courts. The beach is great for enjoying the view and drinking your pina coladas - we didn't swim there, but there are plenty of beaches for swimming accessible. Recommend that you rent a car from the airport, makes the stay much easier. Also, definitely do the mangrove tour.

Fungi's on the beach. Was our best meal while on the island. We enjoyed eating right on the water and the seafood was spectacular. Small small place, but well worth going! Casual.
