A Very Positive Experience - We'd go back someday.
Nice people, laid back and very accomodating. They opened the kitchen for us (closed at 9) the first night when we got delayed at the airport taxi stand. The restaurant (beach bar too) is excellant and carries a great reputation amongst the island regulars and the guests. The restaurant is closed mid-week so plan ahead....Fredricksted is pretty quiet, but we knew that when we booked this hotel and there are a couple of good alternative restaurants in F'sted. Hotel is "gay-friendly" but not over the top or flamboyant, so we felt comfortable. Probably not a family place; but more of an adult get -a -way- destination. The beach is one of the nicest on the island. Definately rent a vehicle and explore this large island, bring a GPS that is island friendly, carefully learn to drive on the LEFT. This hotel is a great value.

Short drive from hotel
Blue Moon Cafe in downtown F'sted has jazz twice a week. They are open when the hotel restaurant is closed. Also decent food. Coconuts- further down the road for lite fare on the beach... nice people. Try the Turtle Deli for lunch. Ignore the chickens & rooster - it's all good.

Perfect Location
A warm and friendly greeting from the Owner's and staff. Spectacular beachfront location; quiet, with proximity to historic Fredricksted and not overly isolated from Island residents. Safe. We quickly became 'best friends' with several of the other guests, which would have happened even without the shared poolside happy-hour every evening. Some of the best snorkeling on the island is right here. LGBT couples were entirely friendly and warmly welcoming to us and other male-female couples. All people mixed happily and respectfully here: Islanders and visitors all enjoy the beach and the excellent restaurant, together. This was one of the very best vacations we have ever had; it was very hard to leave. Don't expect a 5-star gated private resort; that is not what this place is about. This place is all about experiencing St. Croix and welcoming a diverse and engaging guest community. No late night partying or noisy heavy drinkers. Just great conversation while watching the sunsets.

Long walk from hotel
Napolean's for Pizza; inexpensive, well prepared. Great for one of the two evenings during the week when the hotel restaurant in closed. And there is a local bakery around the corner from Napoleans where a loaf of 'butter bread' costs $2.50 and is always fresh-baked-warm.

Island Wedding
We came to St. Croix to attend our niece's wedding. Of the few places to stay near Fredericksted, we chose Sandcastle. It was the perfect location. We enjoyed our complementary breakfast each morning at the Beachside Cafe just steps from the shoreline. The water is crystal clear and the beach all sand. Perfect!!! It was hard to leave, and we hope to go back again.

restful paradise
When my husband picked the Sand Castle on the Beach, I had my reservations: he doesn't have a great record on this account. However, both of us really loved the atmosphere, the location (hey, it's *on* a quiet stretch of swimmable beach), the amenities (e.g., the outfitted kitchen; outdoor restaurant), and the physical space. Two things, however, made our paradise complete: every one of the staff is helpful, friendly, and considerate; and it's possible and even encouraged to "power down," so that we were able to make this an utterly relaxing vacation--our first to the Caribbean, by the way. Forget trying out other islands or even other inns: we'll absolutely return to the SCotB!

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you want to make simple meals yourself, you don't need to take a cab to the big supermarket east of the hotel: just take a leisurely walk downtown, where there are several small but adequate groceries & a good local bakery (on King Street?). Also downtown are a post office, a fabric store (seriously!), a shop at Frederiksted Fort, & then the usual touristy places.
