Windward Passage Hotel

This hotel seems a little tired and needs some TLC. The room was "clean" (sort of) but the cleaners had missed the corners. Bed good, clean and comfortable! Guest services needs upgrading.......nobody answered the reception phone and I had to go downstairs 5 times to get answers for basic questions. The "free" shuttle to fabulous Magens Bay is ONLY any good if you arrive or are there for a 10.30am pick up. I checked in at 11am for a one nights stay before flying out and "bad luck" no shuttle to beach!! (part of my reason for choosing this hotel) Television kept blacking out with some power problems tripping and leaving the bathroom also in the dark. Restaurant service slow with over 20 minute wait until I finally went inside and asked for service. Manageress lovely and walked me to a restaurant in the dark, (security) .........I would give it a second chance but they need to step up to the plate a bit more.........They have however offered me some compensation which is very recommendable!

There were issues at first with the phone and radio not working, but after I made the complaint it was rectified. My 3yr old loved the view of the boats and seaplanes leaving so the location of the room was perfect. Unfortunately I couldn't enjoy the casino because I didn't have a babysitter, but we did enjoy the pool. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

This is a great hotel in a great location. Right across the street from the ferries or down the street for some great shopping and restaurants. The location is near where the cruise ships come in, so there is a lot to do in the area. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful and had our reservations ready when we arrived. if you would rather not walk to wherever you are going, there are taxis right out the door waiting to take you where you want to go. Rooms were very comfortable and the hotel had a nice pool, golfing green and small casino. It had much more, but we did not investigate everything the hotel had to offer.

The water contains so much chlorine it smells like you brought it in the bathroom and spilled a gallon on the floor. The water runs yellow. I let it run for 10 minutes and it remained yellow. Staff is rude. Locks do not work. SPEND the extra cash and go somewhere else. RENOVATION = new paint! This is DIY(do it yourself) in action; hotel staff completed these "renovations"

I didn't travel with kids so I can't say how the hotel rates for families, but I suspect that it would still be fine. I found out that there are some less than savory activities which take place a block away, to the rear of the hotel, but this did not impact my stay in any way. The view from my room (at the rear) was of a local neighborhood and hills, and as such, perhaps not what the average vacationer expects to see... but who cares? I never got the fascination with the view thing, the only time I spent in my hotel room was either sleeping, showering, using the (complimentary) internet... or leaving out the door. Hades could be out back for all I care. Free parking is available on the (gated) compound so if one gets a rental, as I did, one is free to be adventurous (driving on the left) and explore the neighborhoods within reach. The hotel, for instance, is a mere15 min drive from the airport, and not at all difficult to find. There are a couple dining and late night hangouts within walking distance, in particular "Green House" with great happy hour drink deals, and the appropriately named "Bang Bang Shrimp". I was a little annoyed that the housekeeper kept replacing my bath mat everyday, but such is the attention to detail. The staff were TERRIFIC... I couldn't say anything more about how great they were. We even prevailed on the chef (who protested mildly that his pot was on the fire) to snap our photo as we were preparing to leave. Frontdesk staff referred to me by name whenever I called down (hardly had need to), and were more than helpful with advice and directions. If you visit, please tip the young man with the baseball cap and braids for me. He was the valet the day I checked in, and recommended Green House and a couple other spots to me. Unfortunately I didn't see him again as I thought I would, to thank him for the tip. There's a Pueblo Supermarket and a Kmart a short drive away in Havensight in case you should need supplies, and if you want to get a great Trinidadian meal (including an excellent roti, very surprising to find on STT), be sure to ask for directions to Ideal Restaurant, on Garden Street from the Post Office, blue and white building on the right. The value for the money for my room was great, in no small part due to my lack of a view no doubt... but from what I heard not all of the rooms were renovated, as was mine... so be sure to inquire about them, and about an upgrade if available. The renovated room that I had (Rm. 423) was terrific. Aces all around... highly recommended.

Service is super super slow, you have to wait for everything. Check in time is suppose to be 4PM, we got there at 5:30 and the room was not ready, many guests had to wait for the room to be ready. Took over an hour to get us some extra shampoo. The wall is very very thin and you can hear everything from the ocean front room, the street, the neighbor. It was just not worth over $200 per night for a mediocre room and location is also far from the main drag, you have to walk quite far or pay a taxi. Will not recommend.

I travel on business to a lot of places therefore I've stayed in a lot of hotels. This one is very good, very clean, but I've seen better for the price. If it was a cheaper rate, I would call it perfect , but for this price no.. sorry. Service wasn't too great either.

we missed having a microwave, no way to warm up leftovers, so we did throw away quite a bit of food.

Reservation was handled correctly and rooms were good sized, but with dated furnishings. Excellent choice of TV channels.Bathroom was small and a lot of mold on the walls; shower head was broken and did not distribute water well. Staff was only moderately pleasant or helpful. For me the location was excellent, next to ferry terminal.
