Average, we had fun but have seen better.

Day one: room wasn't 100% ready with only 2 towels total and no shampoo. Kind of need more towels due to multiple showers from playing in the pool and the beach. Room not cleaned next day until 6 PM. Restaurants had decent breakfast but rest of the meals were mediocre - sometimes too salty and/or overcooked. Would suggest going all inclusive due to high overcharging for restaurants and drinks. So glad we did. Beautiful pools, entertaining iguanas, clean beach, great service by the pools.

Great location/staff, but serious basic maintenance issues.

The location is beautiful and the staff is great. We love the proxmity to Red Hook since we went to St. John and the BVI's on 3 of the days of our trip. However, on our first night, we had no hot water. The third night, the hotel was without power all night (they have their own power plant and are not on the island's grid). On our last day, the A.C. went out on the entire property. The cab driver laughed and told us we should have read the reviews because the hotel is famous for air conditioning problems and once had no AC for a month. We still had a great vacation, but sweating through a third of your vacation while trying to sleep at night is very frustrating. I'll probably choose elsewhere next time. We were not on the all-inclusive plan, but if you are used to Sandals or Riu, you will be disappointed. There are only 3 restaurants on the property and only one open after 6 pm. The menu is very limited (I'm talking less than 6 entrees, and the quality was average at best. There are many restaurants at Red Hook and Charlotte Amallie. I wouldn't recommend all-inclusive unless you plan on drinking a lot (drinks were good). You do have refrigerators in your room to store beer and rum if yo uwant to stop at the grocery store on your way from the airport.

The baths on Virgin Gorda are now so crowded with cruise ship passengers that they're no longer worth the trip. You spend the whole time waiting in a single file line and Devil's Bay Beach at the end is almost too crowded to swim.

Air conditioning may go out

I thought Sugar Bay was a beautiful resort. I only gave the resort a 3 star due to the following issues. One night the resort ran out of hot water. Another the electricity went out in the middle of the night. And the air conditioning was out an entire day which made the rooms very hot. There are not of great restuarants at the resort and its a little walk to get to the beach. Also, the beach had a lot of rocks which I perfer beaches with white sand. However, the ocean front view was amazing. It was very pretty and easy to get to Red Hook to the ferry or places to eat.

Highly Disappointed...

The room smelled old and mildewy. There were bugs in the room. On the last night of our stay, the hotel lost all power and running water. The staff at the hotel was very rude about the outage. No compensation or apology was given for this. I would recommend avoiding this hotel.

Worst Service!!!

The staff was very rude, The only waitress at that time was missing from the bar for 20mins, then she came back with an attitude, she was not wearing a name tag and did not want to tell me her name. The rooms were very out dated. I stayed in room# 622 and had to transfer. The floor had big cracks in it, the bathroom was very dingy and look dirty, the tv was old and did not show clear at all. Then I transfered to another room and some of the light in the bathroom was not working, the toilet kept on running when we flushed, the front door was iammin everytime we try to enter. Room#622

Wedding and Honeymoon of a lifetime

We just got home a week ago, and I would like to say that we were concerned because we read the bad reviews. That being said, they could be nothing further than the truth. The staff was amazing, anything and everything that you want at your fingertips. They were all happy to help. I did overhear one drunken guest being very belligerent to a very sweet front desk person, and she was nothing but polite, professional and courteous. I personally couldn’t have kept my composure while being so rudely attacked, but she did a great job handling it. After 6 days at this resort, I honestly felt like I was at home here, that’s how amazing the staff was. When we arrived, the front desk people were very helpful and friendly. We got the Bay room view as a free upgrade with our wedding package (don’t forget to ask nicely for an upgrade), and the view was spectacular. The room was large, clean and well kept. The bed was comfortable. The balcony was my favorite part of the room. We spent countless hours relaxing and enjoying the view. I’ve heard some bad things about the food. I enjoyed the food. There are several restaurants to choose from, buffets, sit down restaurants, and pool side grill items. Something that I was unaware of until a couple days into our trip, is you can also get food to go, and eat it in your room. We did this with pizza and wings from the Ocean Club a few times, and they were both very good. The best view (in my opinion) and my favorite restaurant was Manor House by a landslide. The view was just amazing, and the food was good too. The all-inclusive package is also a great value. We spent the majority of our time on the resort, and we would have spent a ton on food and drink if we didn’t have it. Now to the wedding. The Wedding Coordinator (I think her name is Shelia) was awesome. She had 2 other brides at the same time as our stay, and no matter what she was doing she would always stop to talk to us, and take the time to explain things. I would like to say that I am not the “bridezilla” type, and I was pretty laid back about the whole thing. But that is the reason I had a destination wedding. Because I didn’t want to stress about the details, I wanted to enjoy myself. And I really did enjoy myself. We had our wedding on Thursday, which is carnival night. Shortly after our beach wedding (which the entire resort seemed to participate and observe), the patio was full of music, dancing, merchants, and performers. My reception was enjoyed by the entire resort, and I LOVED it. For 6 days we were being congratulated and told how beautiful the wedding was. We walked into breakfast one day and had people clinking their water glasses asking us to kiss. The entire resort did everything they could to make it our moment in paradise, and it really was. The only real improvement that I could suggest, is that they try to inform the guests of all of the activities available to them a little bit more. We did all of our research, and we were very well prepared. However, a lot of the guests were surprised when we spoke of all the things that we were doing and planned on doing at the resort. Like the Sunset Cruise offered for just $50/person, we were surprised when they said they didn’t have enough guests signed up to do the cruise, so we were talking about it on the beach, and instantly had 2 other couples interested. I think people need to be reminded of the things the resort offers. I would suggest that everyone makes a visit to the tour desk, located in the Lobby of the hotel. They have brochures of everything there is to do, and it’s a LOT! Sorry for the long winded review, but I have a lot of great things to say about this place!

Hotel staff slow to accommodate

Night of our arrival we drove up to the resort entrance and realized that there is a CHARGE to the guests for parking during your stay which luckily didn't apply to us because we booked prior to that implementation, but BEWARE when booking this hotel of this additional charge if you plan on having a vehicle while on the island. If you don't valet park you have to park your car and either walk uphill or catch the hotel shuttle up to the lobby. Now for the room, we arrived and on surface everything was beautiful, we even had cheese, crackers, fruit and wine awaiting in our room. The balcony opened up to a gorgeous view. Room was very spacious and bed very comfortable. Nice resort if you are coming mainly for R&R and you don't have a need to venture out on the island much, but if you are going back and forth this location can be a bit cumbersome. CONS: Bathtub had mildew around the caulking that my husband was able to rub off with his finger which to us was an indication of neglect. The next morning we spoke to hsekpg and she came in "cleaned" the tub and the mildew was still there. That same afternoon we returned to the lobby and told them about the mildew issue again and finally on the following day someone came, I'm guessing, with the proper cleaning products and cleaned the mildew from around the tub. Lastly, we did see 2 small bugs in the room. The hotel staff was friendly enough, they just didn't respond with a since of urgency to our problem with the mildew. Would recommend "with caution".

Hotel good, Food Bad

Although we didn't book an all inclusive package the two meals we had left a lot to be desired. Portions were small and price was high. This could be solved by the all inclusive all you can eat option. We tried a lunch and dinner but after that it was a taxi ride to somewhere offsite. Our room was an ocean view and we were not disappointed (see attached photo) Go for the hotel, location is great, and enjoy the location and views.

WONDERFUL HONEYMOON!!!!

The resort was AWESOME!!!!! Never really had to leave the resort!! We only left the resort 3 times in 6 days! We had scheduled some activities outside the resort and went shopping one day! There was plenty to do and a wide variety of food choices. The room was very clean and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. We had an ocean view that was wonderful! All the staff was very nice and helpful the entire time!!! One bartender, Ross was the best ever!!! He kept the drinks coming and even came up with some special ones for us!!!! We snorkled off the beach and saw some awesome fish, coral, and even some squid!!! Carnaval night at the pool area was one of our favorite activities. If you get a chance to go and parasail right there from in front of the resort it is something I will never forget!!!! Hope to return soon and bring our son!!!
