Island Wedding

We came to St. Croix to attend our niece's wedding. Of the few places to stay near Fredericksted, we chose Sandcastle. It was the perfect location. We enjoyed our complementary breakfast each morning at the Beachside Cafe just steps from the shoreline. The water is crystal clear and the beach all sand. Perfect!!! It was hard to leave, and we hope to go back again.

The hotel was very nice. The only thing, they didnt change sheets on a regular basis. Also the cafe was not open every day, but was very excellent food.

restful paradise

When my husband picked the Sand Castle on the Beach, I had my reservations: he doesn't have a great record on this account. However, both of us really loved the atmosphere, the location (hey, it's *on* a quiet stretch of swimmable beach), the amenities (e.g., the outfitted kitchen; outdoor restaurant), and the physical space. Two things, however, made our paradise complete: every one of the staff is helpful, friendly, and considerate; and it's possible and even encouraged to "power down," so that we were able to make this an utterly relaxing vacation--our first to the Caribbean, by the way. Forget trying out other islands or even other inns: we'll absolutely return to the SCotB!

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

If you want to make simple meals yourself, you don't need to take a cab to the big supermarket east of the hotel: just take a leisurely walk downtown, where there are several small but adequate groceries & a good local bakery (on King Street?). Also downtown are a post office, a fabric store (seriously!), a shop at Frederiksted Fort, & then the usual touristy places.

A memorable vaca :-)

The staff was attentive and more than helpful. They drew hand drawn maps when asked directions and advised us on where to go and what's going on in the area and on the island. We had a small issue with places closing kind of early and finding places to eat after 8pm, but all in all the hotel was definitely a fantastic value. I won't visit the island again, but not because of the hotel. If your considering a trip here I would lean toward Christiansted, but if your heart lies here in Fredricksted than this is your place!

Sand Castle on the Beach

I prepaid for upgrade in room at this hotel, and only ended up getting the worst room on the property. I was shown 4 other rooms ( "not available") by the staff when I arrived, so I had something to compare the quality of those rooms to the room I was originally shown (Room 102). The bed was very uncomfortable (very hard mattress, linen like sand paper. Security bars (very unattractive) on the first floor balcony (room 102). I feel that the owner misrepresented the room from what was pictured on the hotel website. After all of this, I politely requested a room change and was told there was nothing available the night of 03/3/12. I had to go off property to stay elsewhere (only one night available in neighboring property (different owner) for 03/3/12. We came back on 03/04/12 to see if any rooms opened up, which the staff told us may happen (not guaranteed). The staff placed us in a suite for that night (03/04/12), but the bed was still uncomfortable and the linen was still substandard, and upon entry a large dead centipede in the middle of the floor (which the staff did nothing to remove). We did not get a good nights sleep. That evening (03/04/12),the staff said we may have to move again. On Monday 03/05/12 when I finally spoke to the owner, all the owner could say was that they did not have any rooms for the remainder of our stay. We originally expected to stay the whole 8 nights with this hotel. However, after reviewing the poor accommodation on the first night of our stay and the hostile reception by the owner, I decided to leave the property and find new accommodations. Since I paid for an upgrade, I expected much more that what we got. The room was terribly uncomfortable and unsatisfactory. My partner and I were on our honeymoon. The very stressful ordeal at the hotel was the last thing I expected to have to go through which ultimately affected my overall health and morale. Being confronted with a substandard room, moved repeatedly, and confronted with an obnoxious, rude personality as demonstrated by the owner, made this getaway the worst hotel experience of my life, no question. Overall, the owner appears not to care about the satisfaction of their guests. Thank you for you attention to this matter.Sincerely an unhappy customer.

My retirement and birthday celebration

My husband and I both live pretty hectic lives and wanted to vacation in a secluded place and relax , and have the options of mingling when the need hit. To our pleasant surprise, The Sand Castle offered that and more with the best restaurant in Frederiksted and a great beach in our back yard. St Croix provided the mixture in activities and the Sand Castle, the perfect to stay.

Anniversary Trip!!!

We truely enjoyed this vacation! The beach was beautiful...you can see the fish swim next to you! The staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. The food and drinks were so tasty! Simone and Sheryl are knowlegdable and helpful too. They had tons of recomendations, from where to snorkle to where to shop. The atmosphere was very relaxed. We've already signed up a few of our friends to visit with us. We made a couple of friends while on vacation. This place is a gem.

Wonderful and Relaxing

The best part of this hotel is the service. At no point do you feel like a hotel guest. You consistently feel like a guest in the owners home. Everyone takes the time know get to know you, your name, and your interests. The food in their restaurant is amazing. When you get there, have a rum punch for me.

Good enough

The hotel was ok. The accomodations were ok a little dated but the staff is very friendly and very helpful, for that reason I would stay here again but if your looking for 5 star accommodations this is more a down home vibe. The beach side cafe food was amazingly good also, I traveled by myself and I felt quite safe they have security and the grounds are pretty safe.
