Island Getaway

My husband and I just returned from 8 days at this resort. Overall we had a great time, but a few little problems did come up. The good stuff: The rooms were beatiful and clean. The views were spectacular. Hotel staff friendly and helpful. Grounds could have used a little work but were still lovely. The pool was clean and relaxing except they did allow private parties to use the pool area. We had a 6 year olds birthday celebration on the weekend including lots of screaming little girls and a pinata. The not so good stuff: I am a 63 year old large women. Never was it mentioned that to get to our room we would have to walk up two STEEP drives and 94 (yes 94) steps. After two or three trips a day it became a problem. Also, although we enjoyed the surf, I don't believe this is a place where I would bring children. The surf was very rough with a strong undertow. The beach was nice, but the reef was only a few feet out and would cause cuts ans scratches. We found it hard to stand up when we were only up to our knees. The other not so good was the food. We found the wait staff at the restaurant to be unfriendly and at times rude. The prices were also outragous. Pasta night, a biweekly event, SMALL plate of spagetti with red sauce, no protien, no salad, no drink, $20.00. Service was slow, and everything we had there was just OK. I would recommend this resort to couples and families with older children. But eat in town!

Chillaxing getaway for the two of us

We wanted to spend a few more days after our sailing charter: just to chill and take in the landlubber views and experiences. This resort was just about perfect for us. If you love to walk along the beach, if you love long-sweeping views of mountains, islands and ocean, this is the place. The deluxe hillside room with a king bed,a refrig and the coffeemaker was all we needed to keep the wine chilled and the coffee hot. Also, there is always the large pool area: it was never crowded, and it was heated just right and clean.

Take the taxi to/from the resort to the Bananakeet Cafe for the sunset view and dinner. Make reservations. You will not be disappointed: awesome! Unbelievable views, delicious dinner and excellent wait staff.

long bay

i stayed at long bay beach resort again this year. for the island of tortola, i can't find a better hotel for such a reasonable price. the beach is absolutely stunning - a mile long stretch of perfect white sand and azure seas. the resort has many amenities not available in other places on the island - a nearly olympic size pool (with a swim up bar), a work-out room, wifi as well as a computer room. the views from my beach cabana were stellar - i was "on the beach" . breakfast in the gazebo on the beach is also a wonderful experience. the staff is very helpful. the resort may lack some little things available in other hotels on the mainland, but it had everything i needed for a fantastic experience..

Great place to stay on Tortola!

This resort is on the best beach in Tortola - abeautifu white sand beach lined with palm trees. The units are very comfortable and have good amenities. Ours was equiped with a kithen and all units have a terrace. Guests stay in little "two-guest room" houses near the pool, tennis courts or ocean. All units are oceanview and lovely (Not 2010 updated but very pretty 1995- 2000 decor). The restaurant is great and the servers are very attentive and friendly. We had two dinners and breakfasts there and lunch at the pool bar. There is a nice spa, pool slide and bar, hot tub and two well kept tennis courts. We stayed there ( four couples ) one day before our sail trip and then two nights at the end. They find taxi service to take you to cool spots on the West End for dining and dancing. It is a 40 minute ride from the airport but probably one of the best places to stay on Tortola for young and old. There was a good mix of ages there. I would not recommend the units right on the beach because the sound of the crashing waves can be very loud at night.

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

There is a cool beach restaurant called, I think.. Mety's in Cane Garden Bay. Take a taxi - the roads are very windy. It has a beautiful setting and great food. Just check that the cruise ships are not there on the night you wish to eat out.....it will be super crowded.

Unbeatable ocean view

We had a beach front cabana which is literally on the beach. It offered an unbeatable view of the very clean and mostly empty beach. The cabana itself was also kept very clean and had everything to make us feel comfortable. It could use some touching up of the bathroom which shows signs of age, though.

Looks promising but ...

Highlights: nice rooms, beautiful grounds, helpful staff. Detractions: unable to swim at beach, beautiful pool too shallow for swimming, uneven service/dining at on-site restaurant (1748)

Slow season.

We just got back a week ago and found it to be lovely to vacation without all the people. Long Bay was quite nice however they really need to replace the mattresses, ours was as hard as a rock. Rest of the room (ocean side villa) was quite acceptable. You don't want to but anything from them though, prices are very high for chips, sodas ect. be sure to select the room which includes breakfast and dinner that is a great value at least this time of year. Don't really know that it cost us anymore but it saved us at least 100.00 a day for the meals....food pretty good restaurant location on the beach can't be beat!!

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

Fly in to Tortola instead of St. Thomas it will give you 2 more days of vacation rather than sweating at a customs dock and in the ferry boat for hours each way (miserable).

Amainzing and relaxing vacation

The resort staff were very friendly and accomodating, not to mention extremely helpful. The room was nice-clean and spaious. The best part was the view, which was breathtaking- we overlooked the ocean, as many of the other rooms do. The beach was close to the resort, clean, and relaxing.

Lovely place on the beach

We had a large, very nice room with a fabulous view of the ocean. Very relaxing place to stay, with its beautiful pool, long clean beach, decent workout room and spa. Staff was very helpful. Main restaurant was right on the ocean, so very romantic. Food did not "wow" us. But, very conveniently located.
