Perfect Luxury

This hotel thoroughly exceeded our expectations. We were celebrating our honeymoon and my husbands birthday and the hotel staff made us feel most welcome and very special. The transfers were excellent as was checkin, room service and turn down service. The staff even arranged a surprise birthday cake! The location is also perfect, a short walk from the centre of Hoi An.

Spacious, comfortable room

We booked this room on the internet for $157 (USD) a night once all the fees were included. The rate included the breakfast buffet each day. The breakfast is a nice assortment of breads, fruits, and hot dishes, and also includes a station for made-to-order eggs, pancakes, or pho (noodle soup). The banana pancakes I had were delicious. We had a twin room, with two single beds. The mattresses were a bit firm for my taste, but I prefer a soft mattress, which is hard to find in Asia. Extra pillows were provided when I requested them. The room had a lot of space, with a seating area by the entryway. There were 2-3 stairs between the seating area and the sleeping area. There were also two cushioned seats on the front porch. There was a flat-screen TV near the bed that had a few channels in English, including HBO and Fox Movies and Discovery. There was a safe in the closet. The bathroom was spacious. There was a shower stall that was open to the room (no door or curtain), but we didn't find that to be a problem. It had one of those big waterfall-type shower heads. The water pressure was so-so, but there was plenty of hot water to last through two consecutive showers. The location of this resort is pretty good. It's on the edge of the old town area, so everything is in walking distance. But we found ourselves constantly walking into the heart of the old town, and thought that a hotel near the Japanese Covered Bridge may be more convenient. Of course, you probably wouldn't get such a spacious resort (with a swimming pool) in that location, so it's a trade-off. Overall I was very satisfied with this resort, and would recommend it to anyone.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

We had a lovely lunch at Dao Tien, less than 5 minutes walk from the hotel. They have a beautiful outdoor dining area overlooking the river, with lots of cool breezes.

Lovely setting near Hoi An's historic quarter

We moved to the Life Resort from a nearby hotel (which we otherwise liked) because of LR's beautiful infinity pool, set in well-kept tropical landscaping on a quiet stretch of the river. In April in Hoi An, a nice pool is an essential during the worst midday heat! The rooms (a junior suite, with four interconnecting areas in tiers) were attractively designed and well-appointed, with an especially lovely bathroom. The bed was quite hard -- unfortunately the norm for Vietnam, regardless of hotel cost. Buffet breakfast was ample and good (but not stellar). Poolside light meals and our one in-house dinner were overpriced and so-so. The one computer available to guests was ridiculously antiquated and buggy and had very limited hours of use. The staff was mostly very good, professional and friendly and the grounds were really lovely. All in all a well-designed property in an unmatchable location easy walking or cyclo distance from the charming historic quarter and many good restaurants. Overall, thumbs up.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Cheerful laundry ladies just outside the gate vie for your business at a fraction of the hotel's charge. Be careful about securing your bag if walking through the covered market, or just detour around it.
