Nicely located small boutique hotel

I stayed for two nights, and would have happily stayed more. The hotel is down a small alley, which makes it a bit difficult to find for taxis, and they can't take you in; you must portage your luggage to the hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. I was in the standard, or cheapest type of room, which is small, at the back, with a small ventilation window that let in light (another in the bathroom), and nicely appointed. Great for one person, probably a bit crowded with two. IT WAS QUIET, which is quite a luxury in HCMC, mostly due to the location. There is an elevator, which is very helpful with luggage - something else not standard everywhere. Breakfast is extra, and there is no safe in the room. The bathroom was great - light, airy, and relatively spacious, with good water pressure, an effective water heater, and good quality towels. The central location, near the market, just off Le Loi St, and not far from Dong Khoi, is really superb, so getting around as a pedestrian is relatively easy, and only occasionally heart-stoppingly frightening, due to the heavy traffic, chaotic roundabouts, and motorcycles going the wrong way, or up on the sidewalks. That's hard to avoid completely, but particularly problematic in Pham Ngu Lao.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Look for a Trung Nguyen coffee shop - there are plenty around. There, you'll have a choice of Vietnamese coffees, served pretty traditionally, with the filter still in place over the cup, and a small glass of cold tea on the side. You can get European style coffee too, and buy their coffee ground or whole bean. Or look for cafes where people are drinking coffee this way.
