Looking forward to my next trip

I really enjoyed my stay at the Grand Hotel. Although it was a bit dated, the hotel was more like a step back in time than something that had lasted beyond its years. Great staff and a great breakfast

Excellent stay

Very easy and comfortable. More readily available tourist information at the front desk would have been appreciated. But that is a quibble.

Unmemorable, aspires to be better but falls short

Clearly this hotel aspires to be great, but it consistently falls short. The decorations in the rooms are bland, the floor plans are inefficient and bland, and the little touches that make a hotel are missed. A five star hotel, like the Rex, watches every detail from having filtered bathwater to nightly turn-down service to high thread count sheets to room decorations that are subtle and classy. The Grand hotel consistently misses the mark. Compared to other hotels at the same price, it offers less overall.

Money-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

If you're vacationing for more than a few days in HCMC, book a couple nights here (in the old section of the hotel) and book the rest of the time at one of the cheaper hotels in the quiet alleyways off of Pham Ngu Lao (I found alot more activity and much better bargains in that area). Downtown/Dong Khoi/Nguyen Hue is a must-see though especially during Tet, and this area is upscale compared to Pham Ngu Lao. I would stay here again.
