One of the best

We stayed twice on our recent trip to HCMC. Both times it was a fantastic experience and we can't fault the hotel. The staff were very helpful, the location is great, the style of the hotel is in keeping with its colonial past and our room was lovely. We thought it great value for money if you book up in good time. If you're coming to HCMC you won't find a nicer place to stay that is full of history.

Flawless

We're so glad we chose to return to the Majestic. The staff were polite, efficient, and gracious. The location is the best in District 1. Our 2 rooms were spotless and the bathrooms gleamed. The daily breakfast on the roof-top was sublime. Even the wifi out performed the more expensive and modern hotel we visited in Hong Kong the week before. Transfers from and to the airport were seamless. We will be back.

Great Location

Our flight was cancelled and we had to make an overnight reservation and settled on the Majestic. It was also our 36th Annersary, so we wanted to stay somewhere nice. The Majestic was perfect in that regard. The hotel has an old "French Colonial" feel to it, the furnishings and staff were impeccable, and the room, while small, was very comfortable. Plus, there are a million restaurants within walking distance and the river is right across the street. The 8th Floor Bar gives a magnificent view of the City, and we had a nice drink there before dinner. Overall, quite good.

Ask for a French bistro and while I forget the name of it, it is right around the corner and it's like you walked into a Paris bistro. Owner is French and the wine list is excellent.

Quan An Vietnames Restaurant...terrific small restaurant down an alley two blocks from the hotel. Five stars in my book. Tip: easy way to find it is go through the Pho 24 restaurant and exit at the back door.

Best top level hotel option in Saigon

We've stayed in Saigon 4 times over the past 3 years.During that time, we've stayed in 2 different parts of the city and at 3 different 5 star hotels. The Majestic is our favorite. because it's in the prime tourist area. You can walk to most of the better shops, night clubs and top restaurants. It's a very comfortable, luxury hotel. They have all the facilities you'd expect at a top hotel and their staff is world class.

El Gaucho Restaurant...ask directions from hotel staff. Really outstanding prime beef and a superior wine selection. This is a preferred "...let's splurge option" for local expats

Not a 5 Star Hotel / Beware of Saigon Taxi

The Majestic Hotel claims on most travel sites that "one half of the building offers a stunning view of the Saigon River, while the other half overlooks the swimming pool" –we must have been staying in the third half as our room overlooked an alley with rusted tin-roof buildings. Although the room was large, it was very dark and the furniture ancient. The hotel apparently went through a complete renovation, but it seems that the renovation included only the addition of a flat screen TV and new bedding. Also, the air conditioner could not adequately cool the room. This hotel claims to be a 5 star in service. Although the day staff were very attentive and friendly, I feel that they were not on par with other 5 star hotels in SE Asia. The breakfast buffet was surprisingly good, however, and consisted of western and eastern selections including made-to-order pho and eggs. The pool area was pleasant although surrounded by 5 levels of the hotel so sunlight was scarce. The hotel restaurants and bars are not worth the money - it's better to go outside the hotel to avoid paying hotel surcharges for drinks. The hotel location by the river is not necessarily a benefit as most of the better restaurants and shopping are closer to the center of District 1. There are several other higher-quality hotels better situated near the center. The Majestic is owned by a holding company called Saigon Tourist, which also owns a taxi company of the same name. Be VERY careful if hotel staff put you into one of their taxis. Negotiate the rate first and be sure to have exact change. A taxi from the airport to the hotel is USD$7 (go to the Vinasun taxi desk just after clearing customs). The Saigon Taxi rate is USD$10 to the airport, but cost us USD$13 because the driver claimed he did not have enough change. I asked the Majestic desk clerk at checkout to ensure that the rate would be fixed and that I would not have a problem with change, and he essentially dismissed my concerns (probably because we woke him from his sleep to check us out). Overall, the hotel is not bad for the rate and if you are a tourist. The rooms have free wi-fi and the breakfast is good, but the hotel in my opinion does not deserve a 5 star rating. I will not stay at the Majestic on my next trip to Saigon.

Try Quan On Ngon on Pateur for local street food served in a colonial open-air building. Food is prepared around the perimeter of the restaurant. Ask an employee to walk around with you to explain what is being prepared. This will help you determine your dining choices.

Great value and service!

We loved our stay at the Majestic. The rooms were beautiful, the hotel had a lot of art deco details and the staff was very helpful. We had no problem with asking for a late check-out. It was very affordable as well.

It's hard to faul this lovely

It's hard to faul this lovely old hotel. Situated in an ideal location in District 1 and with all the service one would expect from a 5 star hotel. One small challenge for us was that the shower over the bath was a little difficult to get in and out of due to the very high bath sides. The cake of soap was not replaced during our stay however there was plenty of liquid soap provided. Our room didn't have any view - however threse factors would NOT stop me highly recommending this place. Would happily stay again.

Hotel, staff and amenities were

Hotel, staff and amenities were excellent. I would definitely stay here again. Only suggestions I would make are to stay in the Old Wing (with a view of the river) and make sure when you arrive at the airport you get a local taxi (Vina Sun or Mai Linh) as the 'limousines' - which is hardly what they are - charge $35 to the hotel. It should only be approx $7.
