Good but too stuffy for me
Nice but seemed like a quaint place in Europe rather than an expensive place in Vietnam. If I did it again I'd pay less for a mid-range hotel to get more of a Vietnam flare with fewer snooty people hanging out. I had a problem with a price qu0ote due to poor English and they refused to give me my money back (but did comp breakfast).

What an experience!
We stayed
What an experience! We stayed 2 nights at this lovely iconic hotel. Our original plan was to spend 1 night in the newe Opera wing and 1 night in the original historic wing, however after having experienced the new wing and the Club Sofitel facilities associated with it - there was no question about us changing our plans and upgrading to the new wing for the last night! The service is spectacular, the staff are amazing, the hotel is breath-taking and the location is convenient. My only regret was that we couldnt spend more time in Hanoi and at this amazing hotel.

Hanoi's colonial era hotel
We stayed in the older wing. Rooms were renovated with nice woodwork & new bathrooms worked in. This left them a bit small but they retained their 11' ceilings. Things were as you would expect, expensive but good.

My review of Sofitel Metropole Hanoi
This is a very nice hotel with attentive, couteous staff. However it was undergoing construction work which made it a bit noisy at certain times. In the middle of our stay a problemapparently developed with the electricity in our room and we were moved to another. Although this second room was in the old section and represented an upgrade it was generally less comfortable than the first.

A Great Hotel
The Sofitel Metropole in Hanoi is one of the world's great hotels. It is of historic importance and run with the elegance that you would associate with a luxury hotel. Its facilities are first rate and the service could not be better. For a hotel like the Metropole in New York or Paris, you would pay three times as much. It is worth every penny.

The Metropole is a short walk from the historic center of the City. Major attractions, good shopping and fine restaurants are within walking distance.I did most of my souvenir shopping nearby.

Classic Colonial Hotel
This property is the finest hotel in Hanoi. The location is fantastic and the staff look after your every need. Small treats around the pool just arrive, like fresh fruit skewers or smoothie shots. We stayed in both wings on two different stays. The classic rooms are larger and older but have such a great feel. The Opera wing is new and the rooms are beautifully modern, the entrance is a side door. The pool is great and the Bamboo Lounge is perfect for people watching. I would stay only at this hotel when returning to Hanoi even though they had renovation construction next to the pool all day and lost power or 24 hours, that is how much I loved the place. The construction should be done by the end of June and the power was a fluke.
