Nice hotel, but could use an update

Overall, I had a positive experience at this hotel, however, it's your typical 3 star hotel. The first night we stayed in the cheapest room because we were arriving late and just needed a place to crash. The room was extremely affordable and great for the price. The next night we upgraded to a suite, but it wasn't what we were expecting. Yes, it's spacious, but it's outdated and just didn't feel like it was clean. The faucet on the bathtub is literally coming loose, paint is chipping and has weird splotches, the bathtub pipe leaks onto the floor because there is a hole in it, etc. If you are considering paying for a suite here, I'd recommend staying at a higher rated hotel because it's not really worth the extra money. Overall, nice little budget hotel; great spa service, and perfect location.

Can't be beat for the price

The hotel room is cozy, clean, and well sealed which means that the room doesn't smell musty from the humidity and the noise is muffled. A hot shower can be taken any time of day. The staff from the front desk to the travel desk is extremely professional. Food stalls & restaurants are prevalent in the surrounding area.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Book tours to Sapa or Hanoi boat cruises from the travel desk in the hotel. The hotel agents saved me almost $600 compared to the prices online.

Ideal base in the Old Quarter

A superb location right in amongst the hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter, the noise of which is left behind as soon as you enter the smart entrance. We were initially allocated a charming if 'compact' room on the second floor with waterfall shower inches from the comfy bed, What we hadn't realised was that the hotel was full (we would never have known) and following a trip to Halong Bay we had been upgraded to a huge room on the same floor by the brilliant reception staff. From the front steps it's an easy (and colourful walk) to many of the major sights, the oldest temple (the Bach Ma) is just around the first corner, and the non-stop bustle of the Dong Xuan Market area is fascinating if a little daunting at first. Breakfast was quirky, and in the bar on the first floor, somehow this was not mentioned on checking in, but it was not hard to establish what the arrangements were for breakfast. Coffee is of the Vietnamese type so an acquired taste, but plenty of fruit, juices, bread rolls etc. and a kitchen serving hatch behind which a willing staff will prepare most things for breakfast. The staff will aim to please you, and probably engage you in conversation to improve their English language skills, but they are genuine and not in search of a tip.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The view from the Avalon restaurant and bar. The roof top was unfortunately closed for a private function whilst we were there, but the equally good patio of the restaurant afforded stunning views over Hoan Kiem Lake, especially at night. It also helped to orientate, as from here we located the brilliant Water Puppet Theatre, and The Huc /Sunbeam Bridge.

Great price and friendly people.

I booked this hotel online before leaving the United States. I was a little concerned that the price was so low and that the place might end up being a dump. I was sure wrong. The rooms were comfortable and clean.(ask for room with shower) It is a smaller hotel but had little to no noise and the staff was very friendly. They were incredibly helpful when looking for food or needing help booking tours. While you might find a hostel a little cheaper down the street, this is a big upgrade in hotel for not much of an upgrade in price.

Apposite use of the term Boutique

Right in the heart of the city throb, keep the map handy and most attractions are walkable, mind the bikes. Negotiate the cycle rickshaw price, before you climb in and see the B52 lake!

Nice boutique hotel in good location

Really nice hotel. sadly stay tainted by noisy guests and loud speaker blasting out at 7.30am (rooms not well insulated). View from the window of our "deluxe upgrade" was a concrete block wall!

Very helpful staff and a character property.

Location is great in terms of being heart of old town but that comes with the early morning State 'broadcasts' and in our case, day long pneumatic drilling every day during our 4 day stay. Staff were very helpful and a highlight. Breakfast certainly wasn't at 4-star level......poor buffet selection including tired croissants, and no table service of any kind. The general menu doesn't reflect the local food well or provide good Western food.....sort of 'dining of last resort'. Again the staff came through to help us with this though and gave us good advice on other places to eat. The rooms were OK....beds are 'firm' (a positive for some or negative for others). The general character and tasteful interior are what I would hope for in an old town hotel. I would recommend the hotel to a friend but only with some warnings about noise and food quality.
