Whether it is for a constant action or complete relaxation, this small coral atoll is a custodian of one of Vanuatu's only marine sanctuaries, ideal for a more relaxing holiday. Surrounded by clear turquoise water, coral reefs and thousands of fish, this Melanesian style resort is set in the South Pacific. The island is located 10 minutes from Port Vila, the capital city of Vanuatu, where the international airport is located. Accommodation on Hideaway Island is built with a traditional Melanesian flavour, scattered amongst the jungle and tropical plants that cover the island. The style and standard of the accommodation units ranges from private oceanside bungalows, overlooking the water to quad share dormitories with shared facilities. Whether you are after a simple burger, a slice of cake or pie, or wonderful fresh seafood, there will be something at the beach bar and restaurant that tempts your palate. The food served at the beach restaurant is a real treat and produced from the freshest of ingredients. For guests at Hideaway, there are a number of water and land based activities to keep you occupied. From sitting and watching the sunset over the marine sanctuary, indulging in a diving course, joining daily snorkel safari to using the resort as a base for a host of day tours, you can find almost endless options awaiting for you. **Please Note: Children 15 years and under not permitted in villas**

Great place for great price

I stayed in a 4-bed dorm and had the room to myself. Even though it was dorm they gave a resort like feeling in the room itself. Many activities are included in the price such as snorkeling (inc. guided snorkeling), glass bottom boat etc. Also, resort offers free wifi (though not in the rooms) Easy access from the airport, free ferry to get to the island and back. The staff were super helpful and friendly. I stayed there for only a day and a half but had an amazing time and will definitely go back

Fun family retreat

My husband and I stayed at Hideaway in June of 2010 and our grown children returned in June of 2011. We enjoyed the snorkeling, kayaking, and sailing available right off the beach. Our oldest even began his scuba certification while there. The beach is coral, and tough on bare feet, so be prepared with good water shoes. The restaurant is open-air and beach front. The food was excellent in 2010 but apparently not quite as good in 2011, after the passing of the long-time island chef. Food ranges from sandwiches to nice dinners and restaurant shopping is done daily so the food is always fresh. The bungalows are basic, clean, and comfortable but not fancy. Each offers an outside sitting area and hammock that are delightful with the ocean breeze. A swimming pool is available, but we never used it, preferring the beach instead. The staff was wonderful! They even stored a piece of luggage for us while we traveled to an outer island and allowed us to pick it up when we returned to Efate.

Time-saving tip: Not Applicable

Plan ahead and allow ample time for trips into Port Vila. From Hideaway, you must first travel by ferry, then by taxi or bus, and it's several miles into town.
