Even though they bill themselves as a 5-star hotel. Seems that star inflation is common there and a new hotel is billing themselves as a 6-star.
Great location. We explored the city and did not see a better one and a lot worse.
There are plenty
of great restaurants in the vicinity. The hotel restaurant is about average and pricey. Le Perdiz restaurant is 100 meters away and very good.
The hotel is right on the Rambla with great walking opportunities (beware the traffic, pedestrians appear to be fair game). The hotel provides bicycles, for a fee I think.
The rooms were a good size, clean and well air conditioned, albeit a bit dated. Housekeeping appeared daily, but was minimal and for whatever reason had to keep asking for toilet paper, and the last 2 days they did not leave towels. But after a call they appeared promptly.
The hotel staff was efficient and spoke English. Very helpful. Took a taxi from a restaurant one evening and the the meter read 50 Pesos. We gave him 100 and exited to cab. Then he started yelling at us in machine gun Spanish. Called over one of the staff and they had a spirited discussion. Turns out the driver wanted another 30 Pesos, attempting to intimidate the tourists. The next day the hotel staffer said he complained to the cab company and they suspend to driver for a week. So very tourist-friendly.
Overall, highly recommended.
Hotel features (5 = best, 1 = worst):
Taxis are cheap. Don't wander of the beaten path at night. Beware of the traffic. Saw a taxi take a corner at a speed and almost hit a pregnant woman about to cross the street.
When we checked in we were informed that we had to pay the room rate as well despite the fact that we had fully paid for this at booking, not a good start and we were concerned. Later resolved but the problem was the company we made the booking
Rooms very good and clean, gym on the top floor excellent.
Breakfast perfect and until 11am.
