Great room, good food, friendly staff...
Scott and Kathy Oct 1, 2009
We arrived late and found our key in an envelope by the office door. The attached restaurant served us very good food, even ... at that hour. Clean room, good bed. Inexpensive delicious breakfast (not included) on site the next morning. Incredible view of Mt. Moran from the road westbound the next morning. Perfect location smack-dab between the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. We'd stay there again, without hesitation.

Great Place to Stay
Jan Sep 17, 2009
We truly enjoyed staying at the Hatchet. The rooms were nice and the beds comfortable. The onsite restaurant/bar had the ... best trout I've ever had. And breakfast was great too. The staff at the desk was helpful and friendly. And it's just a stone's throw from the Grand Tetons. We'll definitely stay there again!

I enjoyed staying at the Hatchet Resort-the people who worked there and owned it were extremely friendly. It took some ... getting used to being 'back in the 50s' when it was built-very few tv stations (no news at all), no computer access, only 2 plugins in the room. I had underestimated the distance from everything-certainly not their fault-and I didn't feel that they understood the impact all the road construction that was nearby had on traveling. You had to travel to get to anywhere or do anything.

We stayed at this hotel after staying in Jackson a couple nights. It is closer to Yellowstone about 10 mins from Grand Teton ... National Park and 30 mins from Yellowstone. The room was ok. Their were mosquitoes inside the windows were not latched down and there were some cobwebs visible in the upper corners in some places. Once we killed the mosquitoes and locked down the windows it was all right. The location was pretty good. The restaurant had some great food but it also had to many mosquitoes inside. Maybe a screened entry way would help...? My wife was not very comfortable with this hotel but it was not too bad minus the mosquitoes. For a little further drive I'd stay in Jackson. They have more options for dining/recreation and lower end hotels are more comfortable.

Late season Yellowstone
Ronald Oct 18, 2008
We were disappointed with the accomodations in the fact that the resort was in the late process of closing down. Of the ... approximately 24 unit , on all 5 were occupied and three of them were highway road workers with very noisy truck that they started at six thirty in the morning. The room was cold and the antiquated base board heater took several hours to just get the chill off The restaurant was closed and the nearest food was in Jackson, about 30 miles away. The store had depleted it's stock down to empty shelves prior to closing Our room did not have drinking glasses and we were told they were out of supply. Each room had a sign stating absolutely no cooking and yet the road worker barbequed and cooked each night. Exterior trash cans were not emtyied and were overflowing with foodstuff etc.

Close to Teton Park Entrance
Rafida Aug 26, 2008
The best thing about the Hatchet resort is its closeness to the parks. The rooms are cabin style, clean and cute but somewhat ... small. Closet space is small with only one small suitcase stand. There is a nice desk, 2 chairs and a coffee table, but no coffee maker. Bathroom is modern, but the shower floor is slippery. There is a small irrigation channel behind the rooms which makes a soft running water sound. The location of the hotel is almost inside a forest which is lovely, but I don't know if it is this or the water that is the cause of the abundant flying mosquitos! The small restaurant on the premises is nice and convenient but its menu is limited. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Hatchet and found it interesting and different.

nancy Sep 21, 2007
we were very unhappy with our stay at this resort..... FIrst the distance away from everything was too far but the worst part ... was that no one explained they were doing road construction and each way made this drive very unpleasant. They only dining was at their resort and only at certain times and only one waitress. no coffee for the mornings you could go to thier Grill which was oonly opened certain times with one waitress... Rooms were clean but had very nasty carpet on floor. You could hear everyone's water come on in their rooms all night long and we were left guessing about the mouse traps both in the bathroom and the bedroom. Never saw staff. This place is very rustic and fits the area but too expensive for what you get which was nothing ....

Friendly, Great Location
Jennifer Sep 17, 2007
The Hatchet Resort, MORAN, WY was a very nice secluded, yet accessible location. It is 33 miles from Yellowstone - driving ... through the Grand Tetons. The standard room is too small for three adults to sleep comfortably with any amount of luggage - will need to upgrade to a suite. There is a even large suite with refrigator that I would recommend staying in because... The dining attached to the Resort is very tasty but it is expensive. AND There are no other dining options available in the area. The staff are extremely helpful and nice.

Luxurious Log Cabin Suite
Paul Jul 13, 2007
The Hachet Resort is a very attractive facility. The buildings are log structures with the logs exposed inside and out. The ... many antlers in the decorations contribute to the hunting lodge motif. Our suite consisted of a bedroom and a small living room with a day bed which pulled out to two twin beds that pretty much filled the living room. There was also a dubious looking bunk suspended high on one wall. There was also a rocking chair on the veranda. The bathroom was large and well appointed. The bathroom floors, counters and shower stall were all polished marble. The bathroom featured real towels as opposed to the usual thin motel towels. Some of the rustically rough sawn trim pieces can be hazardous to clothes or bare skin. The hotel maintains two dining facilities. One is a grill and relatively low priced. The breakfast portions were larger than 3 out of 4 family members could eat. The other eatery is an upscale road house. Both feature unique menus and good food. I particularly liked the Hachet Ranch's commitment to preserving the local landscape. The location is spectacular. From the resort the Grand Teton range is visible to the west. The ranch sits on a grassy plain surrounded by pine covered hills to the north, east and south. This is not a resort for lounging by the pool. There is no pool. But there is a jacuzzi and lots of great scenery.
Traveler type: Family
Even though the roads are pretty poorly marked, the Hachet Ranch is easy to find. It's on the only paved road going east from Grand Teton. Get out and hike, horseback ride or bike in Grand Teton. DUH! Old Faithful in Yellowstone is about two hours' drive away to the north and Jackson is less than one hour away to the south.
