Silver Spur Motel Lander

We stayed at The Silver Spur Thursday (7/19/2012) night arriving at 11 pm. We experienced a terrible stay, to be honest. Upon entering the room, the heater was on high (room at 90° and higher) and we were unable to turn it off. With A/C we attempted sleep but were awoken at 12:07 am by the telephone. No one was on the line. Then at 12:29 we were awoken again by the front desk asking if we had the shower running (we did not). At 5:00 am the following morning, only scalding water was available at the tap and shower. I asked for a refund upon leaving at 6 am (through the exterior phone) and the desk clerk denied such (not even having the courtesy to come to the door to speak face to face). I called and emailed requesting a refund and finally, 10 days later was emailed a response that they would give me 50% off for my next stay! I will never stay there again and urge other lodgers that have had similar experience to contact the Chamber of Commerce as the unprofessional behavior exemplified by the staff of the Silver Spur is appalling.

We booked this hotel in advance, not quite knowing what we'd get. When we arrived, the owner checked us in himself and was very friendly. The room was basic, but clean. We stayed for two nights and they didn't make up the bed when they cleaned the room in between the two nights (this was really the only thing I wasn't pleased with), although they did replace all the towels, etc. The hotel is conveniently located across from a supermarket, maybe a mile from the downtown. We requested extra pillows on the first night we stayed, and the owner/operator brought them to our door himself. I like giving my money to individuals and this appeared to be a family-owned and -operated business. If you're looking for value for money, this is a great cheap and cheerful option.

First time visit to Lander. On my [...] account had noted Non-Smoking room. Arrived late at Hotel and ended up with a Smoking room. Bathroom was clean but decor was old. Just bare essentials. Had to ask for soap and another towel. Not many electrical outlets. Air conditioner was noisy but location was good. Just slept there. Staff was friendly. Just the building is old!
