Lovely Historic Hotel

If you are a fan of historic hotels, the PLAINS is great. Renovated in 2002. Lobby still has high ceilings, marble, stained glass, etc. New bath done in 1900 decor. Bed comfortable. Across the street is the historic beautiful train depot. Shopping and restaurants close by. Only problem is parking. Weekends there is not a charge for on street parking, but not sure where you park during the week.

Charming

I much prefer this type of historic hotel instead of another "carbon copy" motel outside of town. Just one block from the Union Pacific train station, (my destination) I found the Plains to be absolutely charming. When was the last time you were motivated to spend an hour or more just sitting in a hotel lobby soaking in the atmosphere of a piano playing instead of mindlessly watching TV up in your room? Okay, it wasn't entirely perfect (the bathroom hadn't been remodeled, and while sufficient, I had a dripping faucet in the sink that couldn't be shut off. The other problem that I had was that the phone didn't work.) Bad order phones are not a issue for me, as there's nobody I wanted to call anyway, and I'm sure that it was an isolated incident which could happen at any hotel anywhere. All in all, I'm glad I stayed here, and would happily do so again if I ever have need of accommodations in Cheyenne. Thumbs up Historic Plains hotel!

If you're without a vehicle (as I was, as I took a Shuttle van from Denver to Cheyenne and was riding a train out of town the next morning) the Village Inn is only a few blocks away and serves breakfast starting at 06:00. The restaurant in the hotel opened at 07:00 and I had a train to catch by then. Village Inn has outstanding pies (especially the Strawberry Pie if it's in season) and the food is plentiful and delicious.

Plains plain perfect

The Plains Hotel is an historic hotel located in downtown Cheyenne on the corner of two very busy streets so if you are looking for a quiet getaway this is not the place for you. I knew this when I booked it for two of my friends and I when we needed to go to Cheyenne for a week end of family business and fun. It is located close to everything in the downtown area and is easy to get to everything in Cheyenne. It is full of history, beautifully redone and has an excellent restaurant. The boutique is fabulous and one of the finest places to shop in Cheyenne. Their is a great day spa if you are looking for those services. You must keep in mind that it is an old hotel and the rooms are not overly spacious. They are not cramped, but not as large as modern hotels. We had a room with two queen beds and it was just fine. The bathroom was clean and had everything we needed. We had to work around each other when getting ready, but it was not problem. At 2a.m. when the bars close it can get noisy on the streets on week end nights, but we kept the fan on in the room (a/c or heater) and didn't hear it the next night. I will stay at the Plains again if I go to Cheyenne. I love being downtown and the people were so nice. The food was delicious and the service was fun and top of the line!

Plains Hotel/downtown

Hotel room was dirty and a bit smelly (esp. the bathroom). Listed amenities (coffee maker, hair dryer) were not in the room, and there was no information in the room on dining room hours, room service, exercise room, etc. The hotel was noisy--very near railroads and highways. There was no hot water for showers (for all guests) on one memorable morning. The room was not cleaned regularly, and I had to ask for a box of tissues. The dining room (food and service) was good. Cheyenee is a great community and there were lots of great restaurants and things to do within walking distance of the hotel.

Aussies visit Cheyenne

We were really expecting this hotel to be something... from the adverts it gets. It is in key position. It just struck us that staff morale seemed off key. Staff were polite but seemed dispirited or something. Of course the reception desk is not set up to meet and greet, staff are hidden somewhat, not appealing... The barman, [...], was excellent and did wonders for the hotel. For price not bad, but something lively missing about the hotel, perhaps greenery or something...

Fantastic stay

Stayed overnight as we were passing through town. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel is beautifully maintained and the room was just perfect. The bed was nice and firm. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There where great restaurants within walking distance too.
