Has Potential, Needs Work

Staff was great and helpfull. Rooms were pretty clean, but very dated. Outlets that either did not work or were not secured to walls. Intermittent internet. Water stains on ceiling and bad patch jobs on walls. Needs some TLC. Fine for single guy travelling for work, but would not bring my wife or family here.

Mom, Dad, college girl and tiny dog.

The front dest staff was very friendly, helpful and professional. The room only had the basics but the sheets were crisp-white and CLEAN! The towels and bathroom were clean, too. Location was excellent. A very quick walk to lovely shops and places to eat and browse. Loved it!

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

An art gallery/vintage store called Collage--off Capital. Very lovely. Pies and PInts had good pizza. A bakery/bookstore also a short walk away. Fun area.

gets the job done on a budget

The staff was very accommodating and was able to give specific driving directions to an out-of-town rube such as myself. The hotel was situated right on the water where there's live music on Fri nights, so that couldn't be more convenient for some easy entertainment. Behind the hotel, there are neighborhood bars serving good food that were open later than the typical downtown fare of Shoney's and Long John Silver's. My only beef was w/housekeeping. I assume in an effort to be green, the sheets weren't changed on a daily basis, or at all from what I could tell, during my 5 days there. It made me question how clean things were when I arrived. Our toilet paper and facial tissues ran out one day, which seem like the most basic things to check. The ice machine on my floor never worked either. The restaurant prices are pretty cheap, but I was still surprised there was no complimentary continental breakfast.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

I liked Sam's Uptown Cafe. It was a true hole-in-the-wall, but the food was tasty and in huge portions and they seem to have live music on various nights (not the night I went, but there were a bunch of signs up for upcoming events). $3 Coronas. Can't beat that.

Great Location & Bedding, Superb Staff

I was very reticent to stay at this hotel, but I needed something close enough that my family of 6 could walk to the convention center and live on the levee. We stayed 5 nights, and we were so impressed! The rooms were clean. The amenities were generous. The staff was amazing. We visited for the USTA National competition, and every member of the staff we encountered were outstanding. We did not even have a contact with a staff member who was just "good" Everyone was outstanding, from the maid service, to the front desk, to the maintenance man who helped me out after I locked us out of our bathroom. Everyone was amazing. Walking distance to a ton of cool shops, restaurants, the mall, and the convention center. Right across the street from Live on the Levee. Every Friday and Saturday night, Charleston puts on a free concert and dance across the street from the hotel. Great music. Great people. Very nice city. Beds were comfortable. Pillows and comforters were amazing.

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

May-September Charleston does "Live on the Levee" free concerts and dances every Friday and Saturday night. It is right across the street from the Downtown Ramada. You can swim in the pool and listen to the great music, or walk right across the street to partake up close.

Pleasant surrounds

I was very skeptical to stay at this hotel after reading several reviews on line, but due to the convenience of my meeting I broke down and booked two nights. I have to say that the hotel was not as bad as I was led to believe. The hotel clerk at check in was wonderful and met all my needs. The hotel itself is older, but my room with a King bed and view of the river was all that I needed. The view was nice, bed and pillows comfy and it was clean. I ate two nights in the hotel rest. and found the wait staff to be very courterous and the food was good for the value. I will stay there again if I ever need to visit Charleston WV again.
