Perfect for us
Our room was large, clean, and very quiet. The king size bed was comfortable with quality bedding. The location was perfect as our favorite German restaurant is located right around the corner. It is an old building that has an old world charm which I appreciate. My husband and I were in town for a baseball game and like staying downtown Milwaukee....we would choose this hotel again.

Stately but aging property
Overall, it was a good place to crash for one night. Seriously needs new carpet and remodeling. It was quiet, but that may have been because of the cold weather outside. Staff were friendly and helpful. Oddly, for an athletic club, the pools and gym stuff close at 9 pm, as did the restaurant. Since I arrived after 9, none of these was accessible to me.

Short walk from hotel
The federal court house -- a remodeled post office -- is an architectural gem. Well worth the small trouble to get inside, if you like beautiful older buildings.

A Unique Experience; Not for Everyone
I booked into the MAC because my family likes to stay at places that have an indoor pool. There were only three hotels in downtown Milwaukee and the other two were booked. Here's the problem: the MAC has separate Men's and Woman's pools, so we couldn't swim together. Despite this drawback, this has some very unique features. I like to workout and as a private club, the MAC has squash courts AND a full basketball court, along with an excellent gym. I've got to think this is the best hotel workout facility in the city. My wife even signed up for a Yoga class! What hotel can you go to and do that? The location is phenomenal. Within easy walking distance, we went to the Public Market, a great Burger place (AJ Bombers#, the Harley Davidson museum, the River Walk, a great ping pong place called spin, the outdoor skating facility and of course the Fonzie statue. Who would have thought? Milwaukee is one of the more enjoyable cities I have spent time in. There is just a lot to do. There were many other things we wanted to do, but we ran out of time. #The domes, an indoor mountain biking place, a bingo hall and on and on.# The Lakeshore brewery tour is also a great time. I also liked the MAC because it only has 56 rooms. That means the place is quiet and intimate and doesn't feel overrun with people. The staff gets to know you because there just aren't that many guests. My son is 13 and likes to go off on his own. At one point he ended up playing pool in the lounge with one of the staff members and the bartenders gave him free soda. This kind of personalized service probably wouldn't happen at other city hotels. One problem is that the services are limited. On the weekend, there is very little food service at the hotel. There is a bar in the lobby, MACs, but if the club has a wedding function, you can't even get food there! There are plenty of restaurants nearby, but the funny thing is, I almost never use an in hotel restaurant, but then when one isn't available, you really miss it. The services are more available during the week, when the members who work nearby are in the city. Despite its limitations I really enjoyed the quirkiness of this hotel and the excellent special features #Gym facilities). The staff really tried to make up for the limitations in other ways. Best of all, at $119 per night, the value is absolutely there. People who have written bad reviews should understand that they aren't paying $200 a night. When you way price, location and features, this spot is definitely a find. We had a great time in Milwaukee and we will definitely be back at the MAC!

We had a phenomenal meal at the Mason Street Grill. AJ Bombers is also a short walk away and was featured on one of the food channels for best burger.

Traditional Hotel Feel
My first time here and I would return. It is nice to find such a place for the price. It is a 1920's hotel type building and the rooms are very 1970's with minimal upgrades and very clean. I resent hotels that spend millions to update needlessly and pass the cost on to the customer. Just keep it clean and well maintained and put the money where it matters like nice beds, coverings, etc... This is a quiet place - except for the lounge which seems to be a popular hangout.

Long walk from hotel
No restaurant in the area that i could see & this area of Milwaukee downtown seems to be a place where they roll up the sidewalks. Plan to drive or take a short cab ride. The desk can refer you to somewhere to suit your taste.

Thank goodness for comfy beds!
Went for a one-night stay over long weekend from Chicago. Hotel is older and lobby has charm. When we went to room was very disappointed. Dings on walls, old carpet, found a past guest's sock, etc. Booked the hotel because reviews were good and has indoor pool. If you have kids--they have to go to gender specific pool. Big time bummer. My husband took our 2 boys to men's pool and I went to women's pool. Despite these things the location is great--very close to river walk--and beds were comfy. Mac's bar onsite was nice too.

Walked evrywhere
First time there but felt familiar and comfortable. Staff was friendly and quick at knowing my name. Looking forward to making the MAC my hotel when visiting the home office in Menomonee Falls. I walked to the Rep Theater saw a great play and then walked to a steakhouse for a bite. I was able to work out as if I was home. Beats staying a chain hotel in Brookfield or Wauwatosa and eating at a chain restaurant!!! loved the 3 inch think windows and the fact that you can open them.

Good location good and value in Milwaukee
This is a good no-frills downtown hotel. Good location near river walk, Pabst Theater and Bradley Center. All the rooms are on floors 9-12 so the view is nice and pretty quiet. Checkout the rooftop patio - very nice! The staff is very professional and accomodating. Wifi is very iffy and slow.
