Excellent location, average room

Good walking distance to many great places to eat and drink, and the capital building itself. Not too far from campus either. Downside: room was nothing special, beds just ok, amenities bland, and was too cold and couldn't easily be adjusted. Basic trade off is location for quality. With better beds, may have given it a better rating.

Best Location in Madison

Look out your window to either the Wisconsin State Capital or to 1 of Madison's beautiful lakes. Park your car and walk around the Capital looking at a variety of restaurants to tempt your palette. You'll find everything from Asian restaurant to Tibet to French cuisine to fresh from the farm dining. Walk State Street which is bike and people friendly until you come to the University of Wisconsin. Don't miss the museums, art centers, student union and lakefront. The zoo is free and delightful. The hotel has a nice exercise facility, indoor pool, hot tub, sauna and ping pong all located on the 3rd floor. There also is a concierge floor only available to those who splurge and book there.

Perfect Post-Concert getaway

My husband and I stayed here after the Yes concert. It was so nice to just walk a couple blocks from the overture center to our hotel! The governors club was worth it just for the delicious breakfast!

Location was great

I had a great 4th of July weekend at the Concourse. Staff was very friendly and the location couldn't have been better for access to the Capitol and State street. Didn't hAve to drive at all, everything was in walking distance.

great location

Renovated, nicely appointed rooms with clean pool area and updated fitness room. This time our room (upgraded for free which was nice) smelled a bit musty and got stuffy while sleeping despite proper AC setting. Rate this place 4* and always stay here because of location. Just off the square and convenient for farmer's market, restaurants, lakes. Short walk to the union and campus or take the bus. Governer's Club is a good value if you are alone and/or don't want to venture out much; GC rooms include club with coffee/tea, breakfast, high end cocktails in evening and hors d'oeuvres. Stopped getting the club rooms because we found that we would stay in the hotel too much rather than explore new restaurants, etc. Graze is a great spot for happy hour and recommend Tornado Room for splurge dinner. Next time, we might try the new Hampton Inn if price drops since our Hampton stays have always been excellent (great beds, big rooms, decent b-fast, free wifi) and the location is closer to campus/union. Would definitely pick Hampton if traveling with kids. This time was a couple's outing.

Graze has 2 for 1 happy hour in late afternoon and then late night. Great fries and good food. Beware meal portions small and pricey. Continue walking down to Lake Monona for Sardine--nice ambiance, good happy hour and great value bar menu (regular menu can be $$$).

Concourse

I had a very brief stay. the staff was friendly, but didn't have the opportunity to prove themselves as above average. The room was newly remodeled and clean, in-room amenities were average, but all that I required for my overnight visit. The lobby could use and update, or more contemporary finishes. Parking was included, the path from parking to lobby is tired and should be rethought.
