It was ok
I had heard from several people that this was a great place to "get away" but I found it mediocre. It served its purpose of a place to sleep but I could have been happy at a bed and breakfast for all the hype I received. I would look around for other hotels before staying here again (in a nutshell).

great for a nice getaway
The hotel was really nice and the spa was amazing! It was nice to be able to walk to the lake in a few minutes. The shops across the lake were only about a 15 minute drive. The staff was super friendly. They went out of their way to ask us how we were. We will definitely be going back!

We went to the Abbey Resort to celebrate our 15 year Aniversary. I really dont have any negative things to say. The resort is top notch and the spa was one of the best we have been too. Love that they have a private pool area for guests at the spa. We will be back !!!!

Upscale Wannabe
This was our second stay at The Abbey Resort. They offer free complimentary valet; however, both times valet and a bellman were nowhere to be found. When checking in, we were informed our [...]reservation had not been processed (whatever that means) so we had to re-register. Our toilet did not flush and our sink would not drain. These were fixed for us, but one must wonder how the cleaning staff didn't notice this?? There was also hair and grime in the bathtub which is disgusting and not what I'd expect from an upscale resort. We spent over $75 (for two people) at The Fontana Grill. This was a Saturday where they offer an all-you-can-eat Prime Rib buffet. Aside from Prime Rib, there were Crab Legs, Mussels, Peppered Beef, various fish, a salad bar and an assortment of vegetables and desserts. They have a menu available with about eight different obscure dishes. They TRY to come off as upscale, but fail. The Prime Rib was chewy and tasteless. The Peppered Beef tasted like cheap banquet food. On the plus side, the server was friendly and did a good job, but that is about the only positive I can give to The Fontana Grill. After dinner, we headed over to The Helm, a bar that is attached to The Fontana Grill. On Friday and Saturday nights from 7-11 they have a wonderful piano and trumpet player that is worth checking out and the service at the bar is decent as well. Both times going to The Abbey there were an abundance of burnt out lights, cobwebs and dust, and the second time the lower level reeked of sewage. By the end of our stay, we found ourselves laughing at how bad this stay turned out; it was so bad, it was comical. Finally, when checking out, they tried to charge us again for the room even though [...]already charged our card. It was resolved, but we were charged a $12 resort fee that apparently goes directly to the resort rather than [...]. I truly wanted to like The Abbey, but found it to be a big disappointment. It's basically a generic version of an upscale resort. I normally don't like to complain and have never written such a negative, critical review, but after two stays at $150+ I just expect much more.

Making Lifetime Memories at the Abbey
It was the day of my in-law's 30th wedding anniversary, and we had prepared a surprise stay for them; a relaxing get-a-way at the Abbey Resort and Avani Spa. It began with a special selection of spa services, the unveiling of their nicely appointed harbor view room, and finally and evening to remember at the Fontana Grill. The Spa services couldn't have been a better treat for Mom, as she unwound from a long flight from Arizona. The spa offered exquisite service tending promptly to every request and need. They even delivered a single red rose to my mother-in-law (from Dad on their anniversary), timing its arrival between services so that she could enjoy the moment of romantic thoughtfulness. Later we visited their room at the Abbey. The housekeeping staff lead by [...] had prepared the room with a VIP turndown service, offering robes, slippers, and even placing mints on the pillow (such a nice touch.) Mom and Dad stood gazing out the window at the harbor from their room enjoying the fall colors, glistening off the placid stillness of Lake Geneva. They were in awe, and never seemed so truly in love. Later, we sat down to an extraordinary meal at the Fontana grill. We were greeted and promptly seated at a table already set and prepared for our arrival. [...] and [...], our waiting staff, truly set the stage for what would become on of the best meals had in years. Spearheaded by the Sous Chef, Chef [...] and his team offered the very best cuisine our money could buy. The meal was picture perfect, down do the arrangement and plating of the food, and each entree was perfectly prepared, garnished and masterfully crafted. The Manager on Duty, [...] stopped by to ensure that everything was to our satisfaction--and indeed it was. [...]'s sincerity and hospitality left us feeling warm and cared for. Each member of the Abbey staff, from [...] and [...] at the front desk for check in, to [...] the housekeeping attendant, played a critical role in making Mom and Dad's 30th wedding anniversary the most significant day in their marriage. As their son-in-law, I was truly impressed with the attention to detail and careful consideration that was offered throughout their stay. This day, was all they could talk about, and they often welled up with tears recalling the special moments created by the Abbey Staff. I am pleased to write on their behalf having experienced the charm and luxury of the Abbey resort for myself during my time with them throughout the day. Our family would like to express our most heartfelt and sincere appreciation and well deserved thank you to the Abbey Resort and Avani Spa. Thank so much!
