Expecting more...

I've always trusted any hotel with the Marriott label attached to it to be freshly updated and very clean and functional. My initial shock with this location was that it was not a standard hotel (one large building with hundreds of rooms in it). This is a series of lodge-type buildings along a golf course. It's not a huge problem other than it was completely unexpected. I've stayed at a number of Residence Inn by Marriott's before and was able to expect the same thing. The pictures didn't make clear that this was something different, so I didn't think to ask. But I could overcome that. Next I get assigned my keys and drive over to the lodge building my room is in. Immediately upon stepping into my room I was overcome by the smell of stale cigarettes. I called the front desk and asked if I'd been assigned a smoking room, because I am clear I would not have chosen one. I was informed there are no smoking rooms at their facility so it must've been a guest smoking when they shouldn't be. The attendant at the front desk immediately reassigned me to a new room on the other side of the same building. I was mildly disappointed that the cleaning crew had not reported the stale cigarette smell, it was rather strong and should've been caught and taken care of before a guest was assigned the room. So I finally get settled into a non-smelly room. The rest of my stay was relatively uneventful with the exception of the following morning. I went to take a shower and the tub drain was not only old and corroded, but it drained rather slowly, causing brownish slime/sludge that had collected on the corroded drain plug device to loosen up and float around my feet while I was showering. Gross. Very gross. I tried not to think about it while I took a record-time shower. On a positive note, breakfast was good and fit what I expected of a Marriott breakfast.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Red Robin is just around the corner from the golf course that these lodges are located on, in the mall next to the Barnes & Noble. You can call in an order for pickup and they're pretty quick at getting it filled.

Getaway in the city

The location on a golf course is tricky to find without a GPS, but the rooms are wonderful, the grounds and views are inviting, staff are capable and hospitable, and the breakfast and coffee are excellent.

the good, the bad and the ugly

The good-Fireplace, size, cleanliness. The bad- Hotel was insistent on paying $50 cash for incidentals...having made an online reservation and worked a few hotels before, i only had cash on me. So in order to stay I had to fork out $50 (I only had $100). The UGLY- There was a dog upstairs that was rather annoying. I was up at 6am! So my plan to get away and relax was hardly relaxing at all. Don't think I'd stay here again.

Nice Stay

My family enjoyed our stay here. The kids enjoyed being able to shoot baskets on the hotels court, although the court surface was slippery. The main negative we experienced was we needed to use the fold out bed of the sofa and when we pulled the cushions off, the sofa was full of food crumbs etc. The only other minor complaint is I don't think they had wireless internet. I connected using the network cable on the desk in the room, which worked fine, but I was tied to the desk. The fitness center was small but two treadmills and elliptical were good quality with individual TVs for each piece of equipment.
