Great Hotel, Excellent Value

We had a great weekend stay at the Marcus Whitman in the off season in Walla Walla. It was close to some great restaurants and down town wine tasting. If we had stayed at almost any other hotel we would have had to drive to either the vineyards or down town. The hotel had a great staff and had an excellent breakfast and happy hour. There is no pool and fitness center is ok, but I had it to myself, which was nice. If you are going to Walla Walla, outside of a vineyard resort, this is by far the best lodging option.

Marcus Whitman

This is a good hotel located in downtown Walla Walla and close to a number of restaurants and wineries. The rooms are comfortable but nothing special especially considering the price. The restaurant located off the main lobby is a B+ and worth checking out.

Great front desk and evening dining

Front desk staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Diner was a gourmet experience with the best local wine list imaginable and fairly priced. Breakfast was another matter. Only buffet was available with lots of high cholesterol foods.

Quiant hotel with a wonderful staff

We stayed at the Marcus Whitman with friends to go wine tasting in Walla Walla. The hotel is really beautiful and the rooms were fantastic. It was off-season when we went so the manager (who was amazing--thanks Jonathan) upgraded us to a suite for $20 more. Everyone was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable and the complimentary breakfast was delicious. We have stayed at the Best Western in walla walla before (which was fine), but we are not going back! Loved this hotel.

First time visiting Walla Walla

The Marcus Whitman experience was a pleasure from start to finish. We spent two days during a Walla Walla wine touring vacation and found the accommodations to be clean and extremely comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was a nice start to our day and the staff were outgoing and so helpful. Jonathon was very friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to make our stay a memorable experience. The location was exactly where we wanted to be, easy walking distance to all downtown activities and likewise easy driving to the local wineries and vineyards.

Good location, outstanding staff

Easy walking distance to restaurants and to Whitman College. Parking is plentiful and easy. Great beds, slept like a log. Breakfast is excellent. Staff is friendly, helpful, and generally outstanding. Elevator is very slow, so we usually used the stairs even though we were on the 4th floor.

Disappointed, For The Price

We were disappointed int the hotel for the price we paid. Definitely overpriced. Parking lot was full, with only 3 handicapped spaces, all full. No lamp by the occasional chair, only a one-way light bulb in the 3-way lamp on the desk, so couldn't sit in the chair and read. Wind was blowing and whistled around the windows. Would not go back.

Too bad about the bed

Nice location for well maintained old upscale hotel. Too bad the beds were awful. At least in the newer West Wing. Avoid this section. Mattress was way too firm and air conditioner was part cement mixer our last night. Combination was killer. They did have us check out a queen bed room in same wing but no better mattress. Free breakfast above expectations with excellent options.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

If you're a foodie, the Saffron restaurant is a "must do" for dinner. Small and very popular with spicy Mediterranean fare. Reservations are very good idea. Excellent waitstaff with superb local wine list.

Anniversary in Washington Wine country

Exceptional accommodations. Old hotel (Dwight Eisenhower stayed there) recently updated (walk in shower). It felt like they went the extra mile for us: 45 wedding anniversary included a free bottle of fine wine and desert at their restaurant.
