Overlooking the beautiful Columbia River, the Red Lion Hotel Vancouver at the Quay is the only riverfront hotel in Vancouver Washington lying just west of I-5, 15 minutes from Portland International Airport and to historic Fort Vancouver, shopping and the city center. The four mile Waterfront Renaissance Trail along the Columbia River is right outside our door. Three blocks away is the Vancouver Convention Center, and Esther Short Park, which is home to the Vancouver Farmers Market every weekend, April through October.

great staff, old building

Staff was very friendly and helpful. However, the card readers throughout the hotel only seemed to work half the time, causing my wife and I to walk around to the front entrance after spending some time on the patio.

Great Location, Past it's Prime

The rooms are nicer than the rest of the complex. Food was very good and view is terrific. Needs a remodel.

Noisy

We had to change rooms three times. Asked for a quiet room. First room next to the swimming pool. Second room next to a convention center with. A party withal load rock music . Third room was marginal because of air traffic .never again.

Staff were helpful, hotel met my needs

I stayed at the Red Lion Hotel at the Quay because the Hilton where the American Legion Department (state-level) Convention was was being held was all booked up and even if they had a room, I didn't see the point of having to pay for parking. The Red Lion was only two blocks away and the parking is free. The hotel is only three or so blocks from the Vancouver Farmer's Market. The hotel is built on a quay on the Columbia River, which accounts for the ever-so-slightly brackish odor that people smell. If you live near an estuary or saltwater inlet or bay, you accept it as a fact of life. What is also a fact of life is that the vast majority of hotels have wall-mounted HVAC units that make the noise you'd expect when you have HVAC equipment in your room. If you want that equipment out of your room, expect to pay for a high-end hotel. That's the trade-off for having your own personal climate control. The hotel's lounge has really taken the nautical theme to its practical limits, noticeable if you look up toward the ceiling as you are about 10-20 feet into the lounge. The service was friendly and the food was just fine. Despite the fact that both a basball team and Welsh Corgi dog show were being hosted at the hotel, it was pretty quiet. The facility seemed to be undergoing some recurring maintanance and the staff was very responsive. The room was clean, but somewhat cozy, if you plan on spending a lot of time in your room and had a micro-fridge and coffemaker with coffee and tea. The hotel has self-serve laundry facilities, which are handy for longer stays.

Enjoyed the staff and location

We were not in the main building. It seemed dark with a slightly unpleasant odor when we first walked in. The room was a little tight for my son and myself but very clean and presentable. The bathroom was clean on modernly decorated. The shower was to die for. I am 6'4" tall so it's a gift when the shower head is above me. The water pressure was great, hot water virtually instantaneous. The pool was warm and clean. The restaurant food was much better than expected and the view breathtaking over the river. The housekeeping staff did a good job and the staff in general was outstanding. Great value.

Vancouver's best location

The room and staff were very accommodating and helpful. I was pleasantly surprised at the location. We visited the nearby park & Saturday market downtown, walked on the river path, and ate at a nearby river-side restaurant. It was also quiet at the hotel and I got a wonderful night's sleep without being woke early by noisy maid service. That means a lot to me when I stay at a hotel.

Great location, Facility is getting ratty

Staff were polite and helpful, but the overriding feel of the place is dingy and run down. Visitors apparently tend to go out for meals and other activities, leaving the place with a somewhat abandoned feeling. Really, can't you brighten it up with an overhaul and some nicer guest offerings?
