February, 2013

Stayed four nights in February, 2013, and the lodge was gastly. Rooms were not well cared for and showed no pride of ownership. Will not make that mistake again.

Lights on, nobody home.

I made a prepaid reservation to this property so I could get a few quick zzzzz's after a NIN concert in Portland before driving back to Seattle in the morning. Unfortunately when I arrived at the hotel at 12:45am there was no staff available to check me in...as in...nobody home. The lobby was locked with no staff working. There was a large sign to "ring night bell." I rang the bell. Nobody ever came. So I rang it again. And again. And I waited. But nobody ever came. Considering that this was a prepaid reservation and I didn't want to deal with the grief of arguing over a refund (let alone finding another hotel at 1am)...I waited longer. And rang the bell again. And nobody ever answered. Eventually I drove away and found another hotel. I had to call and argue for a refund as the hotel tried to claim that I was a "no-show." Well, I'm glad I took pictures...including a picture of the clock in their lobby at 12:50am. It's astonishing to me that a hotel would leave their reception unattended and then still try to charge customers full-freight by claiming that they were a no-show. Rubbish. Think twice before you book a room at this no-service property.

Great location makes this a good choice

The room was about average, with firm and reasonably comfortable beds, but an odd layout, with a tight squeeze to get past one bed to the ironing board and iron on the other side of it. It was nice to have a coffeemaker and fridge in the room; we might have also used the microwave during a longer stay. What really made our stay great was the friendliness of the hotel staff, who let us keep our car in the hotel lot after checkout, while we attended (and I performed in) the Vancouver Wine and Jazz Festival, just blocks away. There were plenty of eateries, coffee shops and a farmer's market within a short walking distance. Location and a good night's rest were more important to us than amenities we didn't have time to enjoy, and this placel definitely fit the bill.

Exactly What I was Looking for

I was in Vancouver for a business conference at the Hilton a few blocks away, which charges $200 per night, charges extra for parking, and has no amenities in the rooms. I'm sick of staying at overpriced mediocre "luxury" hotels that offer nothing extra. The EconoLodge room had a minifridge, microwave, ironing board, hair dryer, coffee pot, free wi-fi and free plentiful parking. It was a short walk to the hilton - just a few blocks. And the room was clean and decent. Great value.

You pay for what you get

Mine was sort o a whirlwind trip for a job interview. I would never take my family to this place. Nor would I stay there with my wife or even by myself again. When I walked to my room there were wet clothes outside on the side walk in front of two or three units. It appeared as though they had been left there for some time. The bathroom smelled, not of cleaner, and there were some blue marks, maybe crayon, on one of the pillows. The fridge and microwave worked fine But the place is quite aways from any grocery store. But there are some nice cafes and sports bars nearby. The service is nonexistent, but I suppose you get what you pay for. I've worked in hospitality and I would never have let someone stay in the room as it was presented to me. But cheap it was. S.Moore

Not good

Attending convention at the Vancouver Hilton down the street. Stayed at the Econo Lodge last year for this same event. This year, the ice machine (there is one) was not working and they had no plans to fix it or to provide ice in an alternative way. Also, if you had not left your room by 11 am, there would be no cleaning service for the day. Also, when I arrived on the first day, there were crumbs and other debris under the footstool and chair which had been missed in the cleanup. Office staff were friendly, but didn't seem to view the guests needs as important in light of the hours they would have cleaning staff present, etc. Very convenient to the Hilton, but I will not be staying there next year as the savings was minimal in comparison to the quality of service.

A Place to Avoid

This was a terrible place to stay. The A/C could not cool the room. The room smelled poorly. The bathrooms were not cleaned well. The hair dryer did not work. The sheets and pillows were uncomfortable, etc etc etc.

good location for us

the small of cleaning fluid was too strong, I wish they had some less perfumed cleaning fluids to use in some rooms.

Great location, Great price.

My husband & I attended a convention which was held at the Vancouver Hilton and also some classes at the Red Lion. Both were an easy, short walk to get to: 3 blocks to the Hilton & about 6 blocks to Red Lion. Price at Econolodge was probably at least 1/2 the cost at the other two. We were quite comfortable & would stay here again.

Great location

I was attending a convention at the Vancouver Hilton. The Econo Lodge is three short, flat blocks from the Hilton and was half the price. It's old and funky, but met all my needs, including having a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, and free computer access in the room. The neighborhood is not "horrifying", but I'd suggest walking in pairs for sure.
